    Just read this

Notable Awards…Eureka Prize (1995,2002), Centenary Medal (2003), Clarke Medal (2004)

Where Does the Carbon Dioxide Really Come From?
PLIMER: “Okay, here’s the bombshell.. The recent volcanic eruption in Iceland. Since its first spewing of volcanic ash has, in just FOUR DAYS, NEGATED EVERY SINGLE EFFORT you have made in the past five years to control CO2 emissions on our planet – all of you.
Of course, you know about this evil carbon dioxide that we are trying to suppress – it’s that vital chemical compound that every plant requires to live and grow and to synthesize into oxygen for us humans and all animal life.
I know….it’s very disheartening to realize that all of the carbon emission savings you have accomplished while suffering the inconvenience and expense of driving Prius hybrids, buying fabric grocery bags, sitting up till midnight to finish your kids “The Green Revolution” science project, throwing out all of your non-green cleaning supplies, using only two squares of toilet paper, putting a brick in your toilet tank reservoir, selling your SUV and speedboat, vacationing at home instead of abroad, nearly getting hit every day on your bicycle, replacing all of your 50p light bulbs with 5 light bulbs …….. well, all of those things you have done have all gone down the tubes in just four days.
The volcanic ash emitted into the Earth’s atmosphere in just four days – yes, FOUR DAYS – by that volcano in Iceland has totally erased every single effort you have made to reduce the evil beast, carbon. And there are around 200 active volcanoes on the planet spewing out this crud at any one time – EVERY DAY.
I don’t really want to rain on your parade too much, but I should mention that when the volcano Mt. Pinatubo erupted in the Philippines in 1991, it spewed out more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than the entire human race had emitted in all its years on earth. Yes, folks, Mt. Pinatubo was active for over one year – think about it!!!!
Of course, I shouldn’t spoil this ‘touchy-feely tree-hugging’ moment and mention the effect of solar and cosmic activity and the well-recognized 800-year global heating and cooling cycle, which keeps happening despite our completely insignificant efforts to affect climate change.
And I do wish I had a silver lining to this volcanic ash cloud, but the fact of the matter is that the bush fire season across the western USA and Australia this year alone will negate your efforts to reduce carbon in our world for the next two to three years. And it happens every year.
Just remember that your government just tried to impose a whopping carbon tax on you, on the basis of the bogus ‘human-caused’ climate-change scenario.
Hey, isn’t it interesting how they don’t mention ‘Global Warming’ anymore, but just ‘Climate Change’ – you know why? It’s because the planet has COOLED by 0.7 degrees in the past few years and these global warming bull artists got caught with their pants down.
And, just keep in mind that you might yet have an Emissions Trading Scheme – that whopping new tax – imposed on you that will achieve absolutely nothing except make you poorer. It won’t stop any volcanoes from erupting, that’s for sure.
But, hey, relax……give the world a hug and have a nice day!”

Much of this comment seems to come directly from the Wikipedia article.
Much of this comment seems to be several years old.
The Wikipedia article notes several cases where equally distinguished scientists claim Plimer’s figures are wrong by several orders of magnitude.

Now I do not trust lefty scientists at all. The IPCC have an ax to grind and funding and salaries to protect. Economies with the truth have been exposed.

But I do believe that climate change is occurring and is caused, in part at least, by the increase in human population and activity changes.

What concerns me is that casual viewers come to BBBC, read the comments on Climate Change/Global warming and depart immediately, never to return. Thereby missing the genuine examples of BBC bias and treason exposed here every single day.

It really doesn’t matter where it comes from, or how old the information is, the fact is that it IS fact. And the more it’s publicised, the better, be it here, or elsewhere. So far as climate change is concerned, it’s been going on for around 4.5 billion years, and will continue for as long as there’s a planet – our contribution is infinitesimal, as is our production of CO2, which as we know, is essential to ALL life – the more the better.

We are not threatened by any cataclysmic climate disruption, in the near future, by anything WE may have set in motion, and we are being encouraged to “fight” a non-existent enemy by cutting off our noses to spite our faces. Climate change is GOOD, is inevitable, and more CO2 will benefit us all.

Most viewers here come here to read the opinions of those who have sussed out the BBC for the biased, lying mouthpiece it really is, and, far from being dissuaded to visit again, are probably so in touch with what we write here, that they can’t stay away – the climate change fiasco being a well documented fallacy by the BBC themselves..

Pilmer’s is very misleading and basically distorting facts for his own agenda.

Facts are as simple as this:
      1. Volcanic emissions have been pretty much constant for 1 million years BUT since the industrial revolution CO2 has increased from about 270ppm to 370ppm.

      2. Any new volcanic eruption is going to release more CO2 than the day before the eruption started. Taking that small CO2 increase for a period of a few days and then comparing it to the small CO2 savings a low energy bulb makes is a pointless comparison. If you compare the volcano to the manmade overall CO2 emissions then it makes the volcano seem very insignificant.

      3. Fossil fuel CO2 emssions are about 100 times more than volcanic CO2 emissions. If the whole world reduces CO2 by a few % then, yes, a recent volcanic eruption could wipe out that small CO2 saving. But that is ignoring that the world is now saving a few % of CO2 year after year for ever more. If anything it just proves mankind needs to keep cutting CO2 emission until volcanoes are the only source of CO2 then Pilmer would be talking some sense.

Thanks I’m no expert …Interesting I would expect fossil fuel to be more polluting as it not heated as much and the volcanic ash ….but the fact the temp has dropped ( I have checked ) that question has not been answered… I am just looking at all the information however he would appear to be more qualified than most

        • Tabs says:

He may be qualified but he is presenting the facts in a misleading way as if to say “what’s the point in trying to save the planet?” when the facts he is presenting say to me “mankind needs to reduce CO2 a lot more than it currently is”

If you also factor in the destruction of the rain forests the whole planet cannot be expected, as some people think, to sustain a stable system no matter what crap is released into the air. Unchecked population growth, a obsession with growing economies, faster consumption of finite resources is going to lead to disaster.

We may reach a point one day where the entire Earth is covered in concrete which will reflect more sunlight back thus cooling the Earth but it’s not a planet I’d liked to live on.

          • Old Goat says:

However much concrete the planet is covered in, won’t forestall the next series of glaciations and intermediate warmings. They will go on for ever, regardless. There’s little point in preparing for a warming which is currently fizzling out, and on its last legs, and thus putting ourselves at risk from the opposite occurrence, when we should really be considering how we may stay warm, and alive.

I have looked a bit more. I agree burning fossil fuels are bad …I worked in a garage back in the day bad ventilation etc.. so very nasty…My problem is Governments using science for political purposes… science is about the truth so should be kept as far away from politicians as possible……but I find when people on either side start to massage the figures it makes me angry. Kicking out all those pollutants have to go somewhere agreed…but predictions charts have not followed suit (just another factor that needs to be understood) …17th century dutch technology isn’t the answer either..If they said the money would go into fusion research a lot more people would agree.. Listen they talk about toll roads despite the fact motorists pay 40 billions plus a year…money money money tax tax tax ..oxygen will be next as we covert that into CO2

        • Tabs says:

The temperature drop is also misleading and is confirmation bias from those that wish to ignore global warming. The recent drop in temperature is the SURFACE temperature only. Again the whole planet wide system is more than the surface temperature. The oceans are deep and store lots of energy not just at the surface. Also the temperature of the atmosphere is warming up still as can be seen with melting glaciers and polar caps.

The best description of this is boiling a pan of water. The bottom of the pan is to hot to touch but the surface temperature remains cool for a while. As it heats you get convection currents and the heats travels throughout the water but it is never uniform in temperature. Likewise when you remove the pan of water the surface will cool quicker than the rest of the deeper water. Starting heating the water again and the surface of the water will heat quickly again as there was still energy in the body of water.

Stew, you make a good point but forgot a bit. “Science is what has been tested and replicated.”

Science is what has been tested and replicated, time after time, and with changes in and increases of understanding, it may have its findings altered, enhanced or disproved, in part or in whole, as scientific knowledge grows.

(BTW, it appears – yet again – that the web-site software has ignored my attempt to tack my 8.05pm post to the initial tail of replies to St George’s 10.35am post aside and has pushed it down here.)

    • Up2snuff says:

First key point I would make about Plimer’s statement (I’d like to know when & where he said that, btw) – irrespective of any errors in his calculations about quantity – there is an important point here not to be missed:
our home, this planet called Earth, has immense power wrapped up in its very hot middle and in the oceans that cover the majority of its surface. The weather systems that result and also create with the heavens our vital seasons and along with geophysical features create our climates (note the plural) also have tremendous power, much, much more than humankind.

We would do well to remember that.

The ancients knew it and lived accordingly. The patriarchs received wisdom from them, together with their own revelations, and lived accordingly. For thousands of years, the descendants of that patriarchal age, received that same wisdom and realised it was true even while making increasing scientific endeavours to discover what lay behind and beyond it.

Instead, in the 19th and 20th centuries – after a so-called enlightenment that seems to have increased darkness more than anything else – a considerable portion of this planet’s population who mostly have humanist or socialist or atheistic ideals, or any or all of those in combination, have decided that it is Man who controls this planet’s climate and not the Creator. Some are well-intentioned; others probably less so are doing it to gain wealth or power or influence or control for others or groups of others as well as, perhaps, themselves individually or as part of those groups.

      This is an immense foolishness.

The Russians and the Americans spent many billions of dollars in today’s money in the 1950s and 1960s trying to influence and gain control over weather systems that can form part of a region’s climate. They did this for militaristic reasons, to gain advantage over the other, in the Cold War era.

      They failed.

The thought that we, humankind, can control our climate via CO2* quantities is laughable, especially as a lot of what ‘government’ – signed up to all sorts of Climate Change deals – does actually maximises its citizens CO2 outputs. We are mere grass on this planet and are blown this way and that by the wind which we like to believe we can harness to control the climate of this planet. We are at the mercy of volcano, earthquake, lightning strike, intense storms with rain and intense wind and more settled weather like constant rain or sunshine with drought. We are powerless in the face of that. The sooner we face up to that fact, the better.

In the end a fire will come for the windblown grass of the world and it will be consumed. There will be no stopping it.

[* assuming that it is CO2 (and methane) that is causing AGW & CC. At present the evidence is starting to turn up late and look thinner year by year. It will be interesting how long it will take for the realisation to dawn on electorates & taxpayers around the world which, I guess, it will do before it is accepted by IPCC members and governments.]

Just been listening to Five Dead with that bloke who always looks like a bull dog chewing a wasp, what’s his name? Oh yes, Adrian Chiles. Anyway he was interviewing a Pakistani bus driver in Oxford who claims his life is intolerable because of a woman who stalked him and made his life hell. She was found guilty of stalking him and sent to prison, but he says he is in fear of his life as she is about to be released. I almost felt sorry for him until in his description of her, he said she came ‘from a white trash family’. Chiles never picked him up over this which was unusual because several years ago it was him (and Jo Brand) who said that Carol Thatcher had said in a private conversation with them that a certain tennis player had hair like a ‘gollywog’. They reported her to the producer of the tv show they were all appearing on and Thatcher has not been seen on the BBC since. What’s the matter Adrian, standards dropping?

    Do brown lives matter?

Watching the BBC news at 10 last night my girlfriend was sure the suicide bombing and murder in Pakistan of c70 would be a lead story, I said I didn’t think the BBC would consider it as important as the Labour leadership campaign. I was right, the Pakistan bombing was not even a headline. Unlike a sparsely attended hustings meeting by the Labour no-hoper.

The truth is that the BBC, like many so-called liberals, doesn’t care about non-whites unless they are in the West when they can be used to support claims of racism and the need for more government welfare and intervention. As long as black, brown or yellow people die in their own countries the BBC doesn’t care if they are morally repressed by Islam, economically repressed by oligarchy, intellectually repressed by malnutrition, or socially repressed by corruption. Millions of coloured people suffer in the developing world every day and the BBC doesn’t care, but let one black robber be shot by a white policeman in the US and the BBC thinks that’s important.

A consummate CV for Laura Kuenssberg with a suitably funereal tone.
The usual exercise in using selective wording against certain individuals ‘treacherous’/’racist’/’ bigot’ (no need for name – you know who they are) with the intent that these should form a long term association for the battles ahead.
    Leave – lie.
    Remain – exaggerate.
Mandy making absurd comments about ‘rich toffs’ funding the leave campaign against the ‘Establishment’ (isn’t he rich?).
    Remain claims not covered:-
    – Scaring the life out of Pensioners regarding the security of their pension in light of exiting the EU.
    – the risk of destabilising the world order heightening the risk of WW3.
    – House price market collapse. etc etc etc……………….
No mention also of the number of voters who were blackmailed/ threatened/scared into voting for Remain using tactics not fully investigated or covered by this heavily weighted program. I believe this number is substantial – but never been alluded to!
Only person coming out of this dire pile of crap with distinction is Nigel Farage, who refuses to temper his wording to suit the politically insensitive and calls it like he sees’ it. His role in this hugely democratic exercise should see him honored for services to his country – unlike the Cameron crony wasters.

Germany’s rape crisis: All very predictable but the German Government simply does not care whilst the media is actually hiding the regular rape events. Here, the BBC simply distorts the news or makes no mention of it. In Germany (as well as the rest of Europe) the crisis is reaching major proportions and there is now serious fear of civil unrest particularly in Germany. We can await the spectacle of the German security services turning on its own people who simply want to protect themselves. Meanwhile, Merkel announces that Germany will still absorb more arrivals, mainly from Africa via Libya. ‘Remainers’ – would you be happy that Merkel holds the most cards in terms of policy for the EU? Would you want this woman to be influencing or making ANY decisions on behalf of the UK?

I read the Gatestone article. There is something about Germany which I think we just do not understand. For that reason alone our exit from the EU is a very essential step.
On the face of it Merkel has gone mad and the entire German elite is failing to protect the people. This is not exactly a new thing in German policy.
Democracy as we in Britain and particularly in England understand it is something the Germans just do not understand and never have. What is there in Merkel’s past I wonder? The East German regime was particularly nasty and alone in the satellite countries in preying upon the ordinary people. I believe it even came to disgust the Russians at the end.
The Remainers see only a fantasy Germany and in the concentration on economics missed the real question. Is the EU German domination by so called peaceful means?

Following on from your comment GR about ‘pubs being turned into curry houses’; how often do you find, particularly in villages, a sit down Indian restaurant and a take-away Chinese ? its never the other way around – a sit down Chinese restaurant and a take-away Indian. I thought this phenomena was just local to where I live, but talking to friends and relatives around the country, this appears to be the norm. So, yes, all the country pubs clearly are turning into curry houses and financed no doubt by extended family members.

It would be interesting to hear from other posters, whether this happens in their areas too.

A total load of bollox from the BBC. The 3 men interviewed haven’t had any actual hate crime whatsoever but are probably suffering from some mental illness that requires attention and sympathy.

I think the Police should be investigating the taxi driver for breaking Regulation 104 of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986, as he failed to have proper control of his vehicle wearing a Bluetooth earpiece whilst doing a BBC TV interview – how can that ever be considered giving you full attention to the road? In fact why are so many BBC interviews or pieces to camera done whilst driving?!?

Just for the record my father is a dark skinned immigrant to the UK in the 1960’s and he has never experienced “hate crime” before or after Brexit.

I have been feeling for sometime now that the coming winter is going to be brutally cold, the first part of confirmation was found today.

    http://www.gavsweathervids.com/sc24-25.html

This latest “Solar Sunday” video was created on 10th July 2016. The video looks at the current situation with regards to the current solar cycle, Solar Cycle 24.

Solar maximum for cycle 24 was reached in February 2014. Since this time we’ve seen a gradual decline in sunspot numbers as we’ve moved out of Solar maximum and back towards solar minimum (expected around 2019)

During June something dramatic occurred! We had a collapse in sunspot numbers compared to the month before. Sunspot number fell to a level that we’ve not seen since 2010!

The drop in sunspot numbers was so large that we’re now much lower than trend. This level of activity wasn’t expected until around 2017. Solar flux (which is essentially the “noise” that is emitted from the Sun) has also declined in recent months, though we haven’t seen a collapse in solar flux like we have total sunspot numbers.

In terms of past solar cycles we know that SC24 is amongst some of the weakest solar cycles ever record back to SC1 (1755 to 1766) and past analysis shows that we’ve been running very closely to SC12 (1878 to 1890). Out of the two solar cycles, SC24 as probably been slightly weaker and we now see to be starting to deviate slightly from SC12.

The solar cycles we now seem to be closest to are SC5 (1798 to 1810) SC6 (1810 to 1832) and SC16 (1922 to 1933). Solar cycles 5 and 6 were part of the “Dalton Minimum” a period of very low sunspot activity that also coincided with several severely cold winter.

Yes, those anti-CO2 followers seem, deliberately, to ignore the sun, the main driver of climate on this planet. Instead of clutching at CO2 and sea level straws, where they try (and miserably fail) to convince us all that minor changes in either are going to result in climate Armageddon, maybe they should be casting a wary eye over solar history, and learning from it.

We appear to be jumping in completely the wrong direction, at the behest of a bunch of (mainly leftie) climate alarmists, who seem to have convinced gullible world governments that we are overheating (and our fault), when in fact, the opposite is true. We should be busy constructing power stations, fracking for gas and oil, and preparing for the inevitable coming cold, instead of pussyfooting around with falsely predicted temperature rises, and sea level rises, which ordinarily would be so infinitesimally small, they’d get lost in the noise.

It’s as if they WANT something bad to happen, isn’t it?

“”….. mass panic among Republican officeholders and intelligentsia, with some wishing Mr Trump would just quit already and leave them to pick up the pieces”” (“”Mass panic””? Mass equals most. Not in this case. But if you and the BBC have a personal vendetta against Trump, you will of course use ‘mass’).

“”This surge in the polls (against Trump), however, has the feeling of something more substantive, given that it comes on the heels of a series of Mr Trump’s unforced errors”” (So, a “”feeling”” justifies total BBC bias? And throw in “” unforced errors”” for good measure).

“”Mrs Clinton was staggered by an FBI rebuke of her use of a private email server while secretary of state””‘ (“”Rebuke””!! She should have faced trial. The BBC would have demanded a trial for Trump in the same situation).

“”The doom-and-gloom Republican convention was a historic bust, leaving – according to one poll – Americans who watched it less likely to support Mr Trump””. (Which poll was it? And what did the other polls say? Don’t expect an answer from the BBC).

” “I’d rather take our chances with nearly anyone else than continue with this certain loser who will likely cost the Senate and much more,” an anonymous New Hampshire Republican tells Politico”” ( So, we have Mr Anonymous providing the BBC with what they want to hear. How convenient).

And the photo of Trump is not flattering at all. All the BBC’s photos of Trump are not flattering. Faulty camera? Or editorial choice?

Not on the Olympics. I confess that I have not seen any Olympic yet as I’m not that keen on termed ‘sports’ much. I did read somewhere that the BBC were fielding ‘twice’ the number of our entire UK Olympic Athletes, but that comes as no surprise. After all its just a ‘freeby’ for most of the BBC staffers. The fact that Rio has already contracted out all MEDIA – the TV video feeds (to each nation) means – in effect- that only a BBC voice over is required and far far fewer BBC staff are required. So what your are viewing is the Brazil TV streaming service in action) and not necessarily BBC footage. They will be editing the ‘highlights’, and Interviewing the British ‘*stars*’ up close and personal though.

But I do question the validity of the Olympic games now. Its rather like State airlines, every nation has to have one, but few airlines are worth flying with the risk. Then there is there is the Olympic ideal ‘World View’ that every race is equal to win when in fact it (appears) that racial ability that is more apparent (not in fact nationhood) to the BBC. The ones that are more dedicated, professional and … nationally sponsored, do win. I wish our UK teams success but ‘not at all costs’ for everybody else in Sport.

None of the Olympic games venues have made any money, usually the host country stands to loose millions on putting on the ‘world show’. China, for example, will never recoup the last big event for example and the UK will perhaps (when all is sold off) will be slightly better off for developing what was once a slum and industrial part a of London. It was an excuse to redevelop the area and it may of ‘paid off’ (for UK) but I suspect not entirely. But then when you see the failures of other host nations you do wonder if the entire thing is ever going to be worth the effort, or cost.

Take look at these old Olympic venue photographs – and wonder if the BBC had any idea of what the real cost is? Not that they (BBC) have to pay for any of the clean up after the ‘gig’.

Far more realistic is the idea that if Clinton wins, she is likely to pack the Supreme Court with supporters of the liberal left consensus thus blurring the constitutional separation of powers…..then, perhaps try to amend the constitution with the intention to disarm law abiding people of legally held guns. This would be a provocation too far. A scenario that could be the basis for a second US civil war.

A big, big problem is that such is the level of mistrust in the US that any form of gun control is vigorously opposed as it is seen as a salami operation to set precedents to remove all legally held firearms…..which it is.

The BBC are still licking wounds from their humiliation at Brexit. So much so that they are still trying to demonise or even ridicule Brexit voters. Here’s the latest serving of tripe from the business live page about a quarter of the way down.
The RKCR/Y&R agency used data from YouGov to produce the list, and report author Emily James believes the choices are indicative of voters’ characteristics with Leave voters more likely to be seen as traditional and straightforward and Remain voters as progressive and up-to-date.

    Bisto
    ITV News
    The Health Lottery
    Birds Eye

Maybe if the progressive members of society might have got their heads and their smartphones out from up their asses they might have realised there was an issue in the country instead of believing the bullshit they were fed from all the socialists on the BBC, twitter etc.

Ah, yes. That would be the YouGov that was started by the rabid Europhile Peter Kellner, wouldn’t it? The chap who has the misfortune to be married to ‘Baroness’ Kathy Ashton, the former EU ‘foreign minister’? The YouGov that massively failed to predict the correct result for either the last election or the Referendum?

      Forgive give me for laughing….

On the extremely biased moaners hour there’s a piece on knife crime, and one of the usual ethnic black suspects from London to explain why carrying a knife shouldn’t be a crime .
He went on to state that only Black & ethnic people are prosecuted for carrying knives while white people are allowed to by the Police and justice systems.
This is obviously a blatant lie, but as so many time on moaners hour & the BBC, it went unchallenged, even though I did feel the presenter was uncomfortable with it.

    Bias in spades !

Radio 4 pm is reporting that in certain mosques in Palestine, the Muezzins call to prayer was substituted by an Egyptian popular song.
Why on earth this is of any relevance to the UK is beyond me, save that it serves to whip up opposition to the Israeli government who will inevitably be the ones blamed for it.

Gave ’em an excuse to play the muslim call to prayer and speak respectfully about “the faithful”.

The process is called dawa…..the promotion and normalisation of Islam.
