Did you know that available on BBC i-player are over 500 editions of the Radio 4 show In Our Time – containing discussion on topics from history, culture, art, science, philosophy, literature – all these shows hosted, chaired and steered by Melvyn Bragg. All of these 100s of hours paid for through the regressive compulsory licence fee and presented and delivered with a uniformly left-liberal multicultural globalist soft-marxian world view.

Now Labour Lord Headcold of the Lake District gets up in the House of Lords (£300 a day) and first tells us he voted Remain.

Ok that’s his democratic right and I’m pleased that he shows his colours – the BBC ought to report the political views of their arts/culture/political/news presenters (perhaps he’s not an employee perhaps he runs a service company?)

But Bragg goes on that he now feels he’s a minority ‘bullied and beleagured’ moreover he reckons he’s been ‘effectively gagged’

Over 500 hours hosting and chairing discussions on a very broad range of topics with countless opportunities to slip in his opinion, nudge the discussion in a particular direction etc etc – and he feels gagged!!!

    Our elite truly are brass-necked.

As a bit of a history buff I listened to it occasionally in the past, until I realised it was basically left-wing history, with dull as ditchwater left-wing academics taking all the fun out of it! Last time I caught an episode I thought Melvyn was getting senile.

In Our Time is ok, ocasionally but I only listen to about half of them.

A *far* better podcast for history is Hardcore History by Dan Carlin. They’re very long but astoundingly good.

For more general topics, I quite like the Hound Tall Discussion Series with Moshe Kasher. He’s a comedian (and co-writer with Dave Chapelle) and it’s essentially In Our Time but in a comedy theater.

I can also vouch for Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History – in a better world the BBC would put Lord Bragg out to grass and snap up the likes of Carlin and put him on our airwaves.

I too was a once a fan of In Our Time. Even now it is one of the least badly altered of Radio 4 shows. Most of which now seem aimed only to please a tiny audience of feminist studies graduates and human rights lawyers.

Even In Our Time are increasingly skewing toward discussion of obscure Victorian female hack writers, bizarre Indian goddesses and the inevitable medieval Islamic scholars.

I now only listen to “In Our Time” when a science ( a proper science not A.G.W.) or mathematics subject is discussed. Bragg’s ignorance of these is outstanding and he quite often make a prick of himself. Far too much obscure feminist claptrap is discussed nowadays. Thanks for the tip regarding Dan Carlin. I most certainly will give him a try and subscribe to his podcast.

The liberal left have always adopted the tactic of accusing their opponents of the sin of which they themselves are guilty.
So, they victimise others while protesting themselves to be the victims.
They engage in street violence while calling the opposition fascists.
They assert their right to free expression against intolerance while shouting down anyone who exercises this right.
They say their opponents are ill-educated, misguided and ill-informed while despising high culture and destroying education.
They accuse their opponents of being “simplistic” while relying on slogans instead of rational argument.
They lay claim to scientific truth while denying the duty of every scientist to be sceptical.
      I could go on.

Pathologically honest and naive as I am, I have for too long taken these liars at their word. Never again! To the condescending classes: I’ve had enough. Go **** yourselves, the lot of you.

Psychological projection is a theory in psychology in which humans defend themselves against their own unconscious impulses or qualities (both positive and negative) by denying their existence in themselves while attributing them to others.

£300 a day and that’s just expenses and there’s a poor old boy I know well into his seventies gets called into his local department of work and pensions office because he’s getting £4pw council tax benefit and didn’t tell them he had a £1,000 lump sum payment from a pension he’d forgotten about and never claimed but was traced by the insurance company and led to believe all the interested parties would automatically be informed. Not only did the poor old guy have to take all his bank statements, bills and other forms they deemed relevant, he also had to swear he done no work since March 2016 and he’s not been in full time education, can you believe that. So this poor old man was left feeling like a criminal, stressed out and confused. You’d laugh if it wasn’t so bloody stupid and then you read about politicians, lords and BBC executives getting paid ridiculous amounts of money, for what taking the piss.

I see that the remoaners of Bedfordshire were well represented on Questiontime last night. The comment from the woman about who would keep Pret a Manger staffed up if the non-British EU nationals couldn’t stay here, was priceless . I didn’t hear a single one of these people speak up for Britons living in the EU. Naturally, the guy who repeated Norman Tebbit’s description of non- British citizens as foreigners drew gasps of shock and disapproval.

I remember years ago Paddy Braindown had a go at someone for using the word “foreigner”, his face full of feigned disgust – but he was immediately put back in his box by a sensible conservative who said that he, himself, was a foreigner when he went to France. There is nothing perjorative about the word, it is a normal, neutral description of someone in a country other than their own.

This fannying about with acceptable terms of description is getting beyond the pale. At my time in the NHS I remember the edict at the change of ‘patient’ to ‘service user’ – WTF ???? you could hear the laughs all around the hospital, but hey what do we know !

They are probably under the false impression that expats who live in Spain, Portugal etc. are somehow wealthy. In reality most have gone to live there because
      a) Property and cost of living is cheaper than most parts of the UK
      b) the UK has been turned into a fµcking sh!thole by a sub-culture of benefit scroungers, muslim ghettos and politically correct crackpots who have forced white, tax-paying families to the bottom of the pile.

If you’re wondering why your local school has no money it might be because they are forced to spend money on new toilets for people who can’t make their mind up whether they are Arthur or Martha or sending the staff on a libfest course to learn more about being trans-sexual or pan-sexual or whatever PC bollox they have dreamed up this week. If you are wondering why your local hospital has no money or your operation is cancelled then ask why the NHS is funding gender transitioning operations?
I have always maintained there is only one correct way of determining gender and that is the tried and trusted Crocodile Dundee method.

Today on R4 this am. Not enough females in senior mangers at MI5 and intelligence services , only 20% apparently
Mention of when intelligence services went public with name of Head of MI5, in 1994 incidentally a lady, Stella Remmington . One of her first actions was to reduce vigilance on Muslims as she claimed they did not pose a real threat.
Forward to 1998, the year she retired and three Brits and an Australian tourist were kidnapped and murdered in Yemen. Those responsible and another five arrested in Yemen days before the kidnappings were from Birmingham and with known links to Abu Hanzas Supporters of Shariah (SOS) group.
According to their families they were only in Yemen to learn Arabic!
While nasty right wing newspapers seemed all too well aware of what was happening in Birmingham and elsewhere, our intelligence services scaling down of resources and political cowardice contributed to these deaths and many more. I remember the look of shock on the face of Robin Cook, labour Home Sec. when told about it.

Also in 1994, we agreed to reduce Customs controls and tariffs on goods between us and our EU partners. Valerie Strachan, the first female head of Customs & Excise decreed that smuggling of alcohol and tobacco etc. would not amount to more than £50m per annum; this despite the fact that just one team in C&Es Investigation Division had a single case of £80M. Thus staffing levels at ports were reduced. I am sure everyone here will be aware of the sale of illegal cigarettes and alcohol, overwhelming in shops and stores run by EU nationals and Asians, the lost revenue runs into £billions.
There have been several undercover television channel investigations about this, none by the BBC of course.
In both postings, warnings from staff on the front lines are ignored or watered down before they eventually reach senior management; years later the consequences emerge. Incidentally, to those advocating legalization of drugs and taxing them, it will go the same way.
I have no doubt both Strachan and Rimington were highly capable people, but I do seem to recall seeing their names highlighted at conferences and meetings etc. all the time about women and equality. Perhaps too much time away from their real jobs proselytizing to pressure groups is the problem, as it is with gay/lesbian,EMB MPs who are hijacked by these same pressure groups when they should be concentration and listening to their own constituents

Yes, I remember that. If I recall correctly, the Conservative Government was busy stopping our British sportsmen & women (many Para-Olympians among them) from participating in shooting events by taking away their legally owned, safely & harmlessly used guns and preventing their training, while allowing in a flood of illegal, ex-military weapons, for gangsters, criminals and terrorists to use.

The bloody airtime the PR, the media exposure, the book, the radio etc, etc is unwarranted, and blatantly biased over all the other winners.
Just think, how much has the Al BBC spent on this overt circus?

I wrote to the Mail on Sunday shortly after she won, and in essence said exactly your comments, particularly the point about other worthy winners not getting a quarter of the publicity of Hussain. AND they printed it, together with comments from other ‘concerned’ readers. More than one columnist also mentioned it – sadly its only the Beeb who are blinded to this. I rather suspect she was quickly put under contract after her win, and now they have to find suitable ‘projects’ for her in order to recoup their outlay. The viewing public aren’t idiots they know what game is being played.

“The Slow-Motion Genocide of Egypt’s Christians”
Yet another murderous wave is taking Egypt’s Coptic Christian minority by storm, leading to another exodus from their homes.
Last week in al-Arish, Sinai, Islamic State affiliates killed a 65-year-old Christian man by shooting him in the head; they then abducted and tortured his 45-year-old son before burning him alive and dumping his charred remains near a schoolyard.
Perhaps because of its sensationalist nature — burning a human alive — this story was reported by some Western media. Yet the atrocities hardly begin or end there…

The creation of the world of their desires.
AS the peoples of the West start to fight back against the progressives they are losing all sense of proportion and rapidly losing their collective reason.

Tommy does not use the silken glove or silver tongue. Just uncomfortable experience of being beaten with the blunt hammer of reality – Which he has personal experience of, and the likelihood that if we do not wake up fast the rest of will also share the same enriching experiences.

Very true. At his best he’s quite articulate but, without wishing to sound like a class warrior, which I’m not, it’s still very difficult to be regarded as articulate or intelligent with the wrong accent, and his in particular. It’s also far too easy with the right one provided other boxes are ticked. Stephen Fry is an example of the latter. Most of his utterances are drivel and he can be pretty foul mouthed – but he does it so “nicely”.

Yet often when they want to try and lay a “progressive” story on us unwashed masses they will use a reporter with a more “regional” accent accent to give the story a bit more working class cred.

It is interesting though (to my ears anyway) that they dont seem to have many reporters with a “cockney ” accent. I suppose the majority of the North London set still find this a little bit offensive.

That’s a good point – it’s a bit too close to home. A bit like a Glasgow accent in Edinburgh.

From Islington’s standpoint, a Birmingham, Northern or Welsh accent probably has a sort of “noble working class/exotic” image (strictly within reason, of course).

Here we go another migrant the Home office wants to deport another bloody sob sob story being cheerled by the BBc. North West tonight his time (again). This time it’s Robert Chilowa who has been here 16 years. . The story this time is he “helped saved children from a burning house””Mr Chilowa ran to the house in his bare feet and was alerted by an older sister who had jumped from an upstairs window, that her younger brother and sisters were trapped inside.Fighting the heat and smoke, he called up and told the youngsters to jump and he would catch them.”
So what it has zero relevance to his deportation.
In the past few weeks we have had in the media. A woman deported to Singapore and another to Sri Lanka. All accompanied by a Jackanory. The sooner migration is stopped and repatriation starts the better.

National Review gives context to the ‘Jim Sessions meeting with the Russians question’
The discussion on RT just mentioned it : they were talking about the Trump election campaign and whether they were having meetings all the time with the Russians about the election.
Jim Sessions line is that they weren’t having (SUCH) meetings with the Russians.
He didn’t mean that he in his normal job never came across the Russians just that he and Trumps election team didn’t have meetings about the elections with the Russians.

National Review – says it is not a case of perjury, cos it was upto Franken to seek clarification and ask ‘So you never even said hello to the Russians ?’
“But the claim that his testimony was perjurious as a matter of law is wholly without merit.”

I’ve found a Swedish counter activists page where they debunk their own government playing down migrant crime

It’s long so I’ve only got halfway down

        – “The Government / MFA gives no explanation as to why it is more than twice as many murders in Malmö eg Copenhagen and Oslo, and about six times as many murders in Malmö compared to Helsinki.”

        – “Verified data on rape in 2009 show an over-representation of foreign-born as much as 48 percent. Within the category of coarse rape was over-representation of foreign-born as much as 64 percent.”

        – If foreigners don’t commit the crime in Sweden then why in 2013 were 35% of prisoners foreign ?

The views on the page are backed up by some reports I find on the official gov websites eg a report into a “dramatic increase in reported rape offences” over 20 years, says there is little evidence that this is due to more reporting. Even taking account the change in legislature this is not sufficient to account for the MAJOR part of the increase.

Even this years official report says only 9% of sexual offences are reported.

So why is this guy employing people from overseas? Answer, presumably, because they are cheaper and will work for less than min wage like other Eastern EU folk.

And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.” (33:59) The implication there is that if women do not cover themselves adequately with their outer garments, they may be abused, and that such abuse would be justified.

India was not among the seven countries named in Trump’s immigration ban, so Tanveer Hussain is lying to begin with. In any case, his arrest demonstrates the risks involved in the Democrats Let-Them-All-In-and-Anyone-Who-Demurs-Is-A-Racist-Islamophobe approach.

BBC – School headscarf row councillor resigns from Birmingham cabinet
An equality chief who became involved in a row over a four-year-old Muslim girl wearing a headscarf in school has resigned from his cabinet post. Birmingham councillor Waseem Zaffar claimed the school had breached anti-discrimination laws.

Ahem! … Mr Zaffar was related to the pupil but did not make that public
In January, Mr Zaffar posted on Facebook that St Clare’s Catholic Primary School were refusing to let the pupil wear a headscarf and said he wanted the matter “addressed asap with a change of policy”.

But the Muslim Women’s Network UK, amongst others, said the school was not at fault as young girls are not required to wear headscarves
    … HELLO! Islamophile Al BBC
NO girls, not one are required to wear a headscarf here that is Sharia law not UK Law
BBC you re lying by omission again.

beebeestan seem to have perfected the dark art of disappearing news stories.
Only yesterday ‘Eight Iraqis jailed for New Year gang rape in Vienna’ was among the top read stories on their site, now it’s vanished, even after drilling down to Europe.
But miraculously, “Germany hate crime: Nearly 10 attacks a day on migrants in 2016” is still proudly visible among the ‘most popular’, nearly a week after first appearing.
    Magic.

BBC News “Banksy hotel, The Walled Off, opens in Bethlehem”
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-39156386
Raising awareness about the wall encroaching on Palestinian land? and freedom apparently
Is that the punch line Banksy? which “Palestinian land”? genius and erm wonderful “judenrein” freedom? that s fascism not freedom
“Israel says it is needed to prevent terror attacks. Palestinians say it is a device to grab land and the International Court of Justice has called it illegal”

So he apparently finds outrageous that some of Israel’s settlements are indeed located so as to prevent large contiguous blocs of land populated by Arabs.
But they are there for a reason, that’s just the point: Israel has a legal right, under the Mandate, to plant settlements everywhere in Mandatory Palestine, including what became known as the “West Bank”; that right was not extinguished by the dead letter of the Partition Plan, and has only been reinforced by another right, derived from U.N. Resolution 242, for Israel to have “secure and recognized” borders which, in a formulation repeatedly used by both the American and Israeli governments, taken to mean “secure and defensible borders.
The settlements do that, some have thus been deliberately situated so as to promote those “secure and defensible borders” which, in the West Bank, necessarily means control of the Jordan Valley and of the Judean and Samarian hills.
More knicker waving and hot air, that is promoting non negotiation
… but the enemedia laps it up

As Zuheir Mohsen, leader of the Palestinian Arab terror group As Saiqa, famously told a journalist in 1977:
The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity.
In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese.
Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct “Palestinian people” to oppose Zionism.
Yes, the existence of a separate Palestinian identity exists only for tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa, while as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem.
However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan”.

Quirky hotels can sometimes be a money maker but this one seems much more of a political statement to which the BBC is delighted to give publicity. By Banksy’s own admission he expects to close after a year. Will the BBC also report on the closure or perhaps the auction of the art?

I couldn’t discover how much it will cost to stay but “The hotel contains valuable works of art, some of which you are permitted to lock yourself alone with overnight. As a consequence, a $1000 deposit will be taken on a credit / debit card at check in”. That might discourage more than a few guests.

But back to the BBC. “The Walled Off Hotel in Bethlehem looks out on the concrete slabs of the controversial barrier Israel has built in and around the occupied West Bank.” The barrier is for the most part a fence. About 90-95% of the barrier will be constructed as a “multi-layered fence system” when completed.

“Israel says it is needed to prevent terror attacks”. Well BBC professionals, has it prevented attacks?

In 2002, there were 452 fatalities from terrorist attacks. Before the completion of the first continuous segment (July 2003) from the beginning of the Second Intifada, 73 Palestinian suicide bombings were carried out from the West Bank, killing 293 Israelis and injuring over 1,900. After the completion of the first continuous segment through the end of 2006, there were only 12 attacks based in the West Bank, killing 64 people and wounding 445. Terrorist attacks declined in 2007[6] and 2008[48] to 9 in 2010. Bethlehem is the site of a concrete wall rather than a fence because of sniping In 2002, it was a primary combat zone in Operation Defensive Shield, a major military counteroffensive by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).

The BBC quotes Banksy as saying,“It’s exactly one hundred years since Britain took control of Palestine and started re-arranging the furniture – with chaotic results.” Except that it isn’t. In 1917 WWI was still raging. The war ended ended with the Armistice of Mudros in 30 October 1918. It should also be noted that the furniture Britain (prime ministers of Great Britain, France, and Italy, and representatives of Japan, Greece, and Belgium all had a part) was not Palestinian or even Arab. It was Turkish and even then only formally in 1920.

Is fake news that new ? I’m not particularly religious – although I was raised as C of E and baptised, all this ‘fake news’ had me wondering about religion in general. I suppose like most of us – (excepting those of deep faith in their chosen religion) we don’t think too deeply about the religious stories in the Bible, the teachings of the Torah, or the scriptures in the Quoran. All of these tomes are open to interpretation, but mainly relied on word of mouth handed down through the generations. So here we are 2000 years later in the grip of ‘fake news’, when it could have all started milleniums ago with a few blokes sat around a camp fire making up a load of tosh after downing a few pints of grape juice !!! Who knows ?

Minimalist article, interesting that the BBC “take security very seriously” and ” have already taken further security measures” and appear less than enthusiastic about an open door free for all policy in regard to it’s own ‘borders’. The details are so sparse I wonder why it even gets a mention.

Jihadwatch? Brietbart? how about Biased BBC?
Facebook and Twitter have censored Jihad Watch, and have blocked many thousands from reading it.
“Did thousands of people who used to click on Jihad Watch articles from Facebook and Twitter suddenly on February 10 lose interest? Of course not. This is what happened: Facebook and Twitter are censoring Jihad Watch as “hate speech.”
Now, I do not accept and will never accept the idea that reporting on jihad activity and Sharia oppression constitutes “hate speech,” but that is, of course, the longstanding claim of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Muslim groups in the West, and has been uncritically adopted by the Left, with which Facebook and Twitter are so firmly aligned”.
    R Spencer

… The European Union has warned Facebook Inc. (FB), Twitter Inc. (TWTR), Alphabet Inc. subsidiary Google (GOOG), and Microsoft Inc. (MSFT) that they could face the prospect of hate speech laws, if they fail to clamp down on such speech on their platforms. The companies, which own or run social media platforms with member numbers that run into millions on the continent, had signed a code of conduct to take down instances of offensive and hate speech within 24 hours back in May.

That’s the biggest problem with these “hate speech” laws. Whether From the EU, Justin Trudeau, Facebook or anywhere they are enforced. It’s that the left want to define what “hate speech” is. We know it won’t be a sensible definition but will become a means to censor any word or sentence they don’t like. I expect if we let them get this control, the goal posts will be moved around accordingly to suit whatever agenda they are trying to push. How long until prosecutions & fines begin? How many careers & livelihoods will be ruined? This could be the most important battle of our age. To keep our freedom of speech. I hope we will not have to look back in 5 years to remember the ‘good old days’ when we could type & print in a public place like this our real opinions & what we know to be true.

Can you all imagine if as in Orwell’s novel, we were forced to have our minds constantly exposed to that Ministry of Truth rubbish? If we had no outlet, no source of alternative information? It’s a nightmare scenario but I am sure in reality that is the plan. Am I a crazy conspiracy theorist?

I heard an account from an Arab-Israeli (ex-Muslim) who was in Israel during the six days war. They were tuning into a radio signal from Jordan which was telling them that they had the Israelis on the run. The Jews were departing with their tails between their legs & the Muslims were victorious. The family were praising Allah until the oldest son came indoors to tell them that there were Israeli tanks rolling up their road. So much for the fake news!

I just heard an interview on Toady as to why there has been no space mission to Mars yet, Webb et al came up with all sorts of reasons, apart from one: that America sacrificed the funding of space missions because NASA was perceived as just “too white, too male” and instead diverted the money to attempting to uplift blacks and other underperforming minorities and try to close the racial gap in performance between them and whites – which is impossible.

“In today’s high-tech society, it’s hard to believe that the apex of space travel was achieved nearly 41years ago.
Now, the ambitions of a once-great people have been tied down, tethered to a parasitic, lazy, unimaginative population who never even conceived of the wheel, let alone space travel.

We could have been on Mars by now; instead, our government decided that creating mini-Detroits from sea to shining sea was a more noble goal. Some of us will live to see the day when these foolish, malignant priorities have changed, forever.

Blacks and their enablers always considered NASA to be a pitiable waste of money. The billions, trillions (perhaps quadrillions) spent on space travel would have been better spent on earthly endeavours, such as supporting unemployed black “mothers” and the black men who impregnate them, spreading their sperm like dandelion seeds and running away from their multiple offspring.”
