Mrs May does a speech about what we can  expect from Brexit on Friday and it’s ‘hard facts for both sides’ says the BBC.  Hmmm…just plain common sense and a realistic view of what the outcome of negotiations might be?  Yeahhh…and anyone with an ounce of common sense and no axe to grind could have told the BBC that a year ago.  Which raises the question as to why the BBC for the last year  has  been giving us a very one-sided and alarmist view of what is happening, not only giving us the Brussels view as the ‘gold standard’ that Britain must aspire to reach but painted an extremely negative view of the British position, expectations and hopes…one example is the EU’s constant mocking of British negotiations as ‘cherry-picking’ not to mention the sneering ‘you can’t have your cake and eat it’….both of which the BBC adopted as their starting point when discussing the British approach…which the BBC portrayed as chaotic, weak and wildly over-expectant.   The BBC seemed to prefer we just rolled over and accepted whatever the EU could dream up to humiliate us.  Perhaps if the BBC spent less time pandering to EU fanatical Remainders and spreading EU propaganda we could have had a realistic view of Brexit from the start from our national broadcaster which would have allowed May to establish her position months ago, rein in the Remainder pro-EU ‘stay-behind’ subversives and present a united, strong and coherent position in negotiations…instead of which the BBC has constantly fed the Remainder’s dream of a second referendum and the reversal of Brexit which has also given the EU the idea that this might happen and therefore they do not need to negotiate seriously.   Thanks BBC for the backstabbing.

10 pm news BBC1 usual film from Syria with children shock in their eyes. But Peter Hitchens in the Sunday Mail was writing to say that Syrian footage film is not from BBC cameramen but unverified film taken by the rebels themselves. But the BBC just keep on doing it without apology.

    • Up2snuff says:

If you look carefully at the photos, those of us with an eye for such things cannot help but think that they look a teeny bit staged. “Is that make-up I see before me?”

It would be really great if the BBC published for all to see, all the written attempts that they have made to get their journalists into Syria with Government accreditation and perhaps embedded within the Syrian Army. They could also publish the refusals they then received from President Assad and we could then accept third-party material they display and broadcast on that basis.

“What do you mean, Lord Hall, you didn’t think it was worth trying? You knew in advance you would be refused? What, the BBC? Premier world news organisation? Refused by President Assad from a small country like Syria, previously friendly with and to the UK?”

Put up, BBC, or shut up.

      • G.W.F. says:

As for the Syrian children, I hope that they are not missing school for these propaganda reports probably filmed in the Salford BBC studios. They may have a future as child actors and models, but their education should not be disrupted. As for the scenes of destruction – a few changes to the Doctor Who studios and we have Syria. Sorry folks, I don’t buy this Syria shit and ongoing propaganda for the rebels.

        • Kaiser says:

they didnt win the Aleppo propaganda war, with threats of forthcoming genocide as the battle moved to its final stages.

Aleppo has gone down the memory hole, they got exposed, so it never happened. Surely we would all now like to see what life is like in Aleppo today and if it is recovering or just filling up with mass graves of heroic “moderate” rebels

So now on to a new Aleppo exactly the same propaganda same tactics same liars

they really must think we are thick as pig shit

          • Up2snuff says:

TWatO informs me that President Assad has relented.

Jeremy Bowen is in Damascus. Now ISIS and the hundred or so other rebel groups are no longer able to routinely shell or bomb the Syrian Army in their capital.

Me, cynical? Well, I suppose his extra salary as a non-woman means that Jeremy must justify the premium he is rightly paid (in my view) as Middle East Editor for the BBC. Yes, Carrie. China may be a long way away but it is nowhere near as dangerous as the Middle East.

Even better. President Assad has called the BBC liars. Well, no. Actually he is more reasonably suggests broadcasters in the west are not telling the truth about the Syria conflict. The same message that I get from a friend who has a close relative now living in Damascus. The same message I have been receiving within months of the start of the Syrian war.

We live nearly two decades into the 21st century. Propaganda was invented around one hundred years ago. Charities and NGOs like the UN have been recently shown to be somewhat shaky on the integrity front.

Is it too much to believe that any account of suffering whether in Rakhine province or Syria or elsewhere might just possibly be staged to extract more money from innocent taxpayers and charity donors in the west via charities and NGOs? And that such accounts need to be scrupulously cross-checked by the BBC or any other news broadcaster.

    • davylars says:

      Now just wait.
Every time the Rebels, (terrorists) are getting there arses kicked a gas attack mysteriously happens. Then the White helmets go into meltdown. More faked footage follows. The UN falls for it, Assad’s regime gets blamed and castigated.
The west get fooled once more…

    • Fedup2 says:

Funny isn’t it – something truly wrong like that is ignored whilst a wildlife programme where the polar bear clip was fiddled led to uproar . Times change . Standards drop

  2. StewGreen says:

BTW The ITV weather woman was wearing a leather skirt, and a figure hugging top.
Tarty is good, but I would say it’s bullying of heterosexual men, cos you can’t not look…what a tease.
…On Twitter women are saying to her things like “nice top wear did you get it ?
“Its from Zara.. X” she replies

  3. Up2snuff says:

Mark Mardell did not get to rubbish Brexit today during part of TWT, probably because he was on a ‘jolly’ in Italy. (BBC R4 1-1.30pm)

Instead the BBC allowed Anand Menon to do it for a whole half hour. ‘Professor Menon heads the award-winning think tank The UK in a Changing Europe.’, I am informed by the Beeb. Hmmn, that’s kinda definite: we must be staying in.

Unfortunately for the Prof and the BBC, if you listen carefully to what some of the contributors to the programme revealed, you discover that Brexit is highly likely to reduce unemployment in the UK AND in the EU. Brexit might just be good for a UK that is OUT of the EU and very much for the EU, too, as it tries to bring down massive unemployment, particularly among the young, in some of its member States.

The Prof did not actually mention that. No. He just laid out the mountain of difficulties for us as we leave and after we have left.

  4. vlad says:

Why is bbc ‘Newsbeat’ always overly representative of BMEs?

Silly question, it’s the beeb being ‘cool’.

  5. StewGreen says:

    So what’s on next
    BBC4 11pm A doco on Margaret Thatcher ?
…nope it’s : “Sean Curran talks to the former senior Liberal Democrat Shirley Williams about her life and political career.”

  6. Loobyloo says:

Italian election -interesting that bBBC don’t say that the Five Star movement is anti-EU.

    And this one:
is a bloody insult to everyone, black people included.

    • Beeb Brother says:

I find much of the ‘equalities’ stuff highly insulting to minorities as I am sure most minorities do as they just want to be treated the same as everyone else.

A blacks only orchestra with everyone applauding? How patronising.

The ‘She Believes’ Cup? What a demeaning name.

All these self-appointed ‘community leaders’ mouthing off on their behalf when surely we are all individuals and nobody should speak for an entire ‘community.’

An Oscar for Moonlight even though everyone knew it was not the best picture. How could you ever know you were winning an award on merit?

Getting a promotion over a less diverse individual who is more experienced and needs the money more just because of the colour of your skin?

The whole ‘anti racism’ movement is founded on the exact same principles as the original racism we agreed was evil, namely that the colour of your skin matters more than the content of your character. It will all end in tears as indeed it already has.

    • Tabs says:

At the bottom of the second article you linked above it quotes:

The posters were taken down after one day, “but someone stole the Doctor Who posters, which always gives me hope,” Ms Viney added.

Very sad day when Liberals see “hope” when other people see “stealing”.

  10. BRISSLES says:

Admittedly it was Sky, this morning I really despaired what this country has descended to. Two black news anchors – no worries with that, but then there was a discussion on a new movement (yet another) on diversity. This ‘action’ group were changing movie posters on social media from the starring white celebrity and replacing it with a black face. It showed De Caprio and Winslett on the Titanic poster erased and replaced with black characters. Others were equally defaced, and according to the little team of 3 activists in the studio (one black/one mixed race/one white) , this show of diversity had gone worldwide – their point was to show that BAME are not considered for acting roles in the same way that whites are. This record is never going to change is it, and their cause will have the opposite effect if they keep banging on about it.

    • TrickCyclist says:

Just seen this on the BBC website, I presume it’s the same story:

      Part of the report says:
“A teenager has spoken of his surprise at seeing his own face on a movie poster at a bus stop in south London.
Shiden Tekle . . . had created the image as part of a project highlighting the lack of black roles in the media but said “they were only supposed to go online”.
Guerrilla advertisers had, unbeknownst to him, placed them around Brixton.”
Funny thing is, if you click on the link at the bottom of the story, ‘Black kids can be wizards too,’ you get a Radio 5 Live video which tells you the posters were intended to go on buses in Brixton. A fib? A change of plan?
Lots of media coverage just for a bunch of students! They belong to a group called The Advocacy Academy (another link) – Lottery and Comic Relief funded.

As you say Brissles, this record is never going to change, and indeed, a few minutes of searching shows that this rather obvious concept has been done before:

      • BRISSLES says:

Yep, that’s the one. Sadly the concept of ‘not being good enough’ never enters their minds, so pretending they’re Harry Potter or Bridget Jones I suppose fulfils a dream for them.

There are some wonderful black actors/actresses about – my current favourite is Octavia Spencer, winning awards for The Help, and giving a great performance in Hidden Figures. According to her cv she is also dyslexic like many other good thespians, if you’re talented you’ll make it, whatever your colour. Defacing film posters to make a point is puerile.

  11. taffman says:

Disappeared from the front page of Al Beeb, but still on Sky…………
“The cause of the explosion has been confirmed as gas related”.

Yep definitely a “Flying Gas Main “.

    • popeye says:

Was it ever on BBC Taffman? I know I googled it late afternoon and it was on:
      Essex Live
      Romford Recorder

BBC were probably late, being Sunday, having the editorial meeting about whether to cover it just in case it was terrorist-related and how anyway it would be NTDWI

  12. taffman says:

Times : Weinstein’s lawyer has gone for an unusual angle : ‘the casting couch is a tradition of the business …so what he did is not rape’
…. Jesus I hate the way liberals screw things up by saying their is a moral equivalence between things eg aguy who has some wines and touches a woman’s knee , with no invitation and a guy who’s been in a grooming/rape gang for years

No there are lines , and stepping over the line makes you a sleazeball, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be reformed & forgiven
… the groom/rape gang is way way way over the line .

Sexual relationships are a bit of a game and cultures vary, but if one person has a lot of power over the other ..say a grown man against a teenager , then it’s not as bad as violent rape, but it still akin to rape and pretty bad .
What if a 30 year old actress makes a decision ‘I’ll accept this invitation to get in a jacuzzi and grit my teeth’
It’s not the situation you’d want your daughter to be in, but I can imagineto some people it wouldn’t be a big deal.

    • JimS says:

Is there not the slightest possibility that some of these ‘couch women’ saw getting a job by these means as a win for their own sexual powers?

A few years ago there was a documentary that included a young female estate agent in London. She was very proud of the fact that illegal parking was a daily activity for her, ‘part of the job’, but that she never got ticketed! Clearly she was exploiting her sexual power. My thought was that she had used up all ‘credits’ that parking wardens might be prepared to give the genuine stranger desperately short of time to find parking.
But that is ‘equality’, we want to be seen as ‘powerful’ but equally we want to be seen as victims.

      • StewGreen says:

        @JImS Time’s clare foge’s agrees with you
Face it, sexual exploitation can cut both ways
“If a woman decides that she needs to have sex with a Hollywood producer in order to advance her career . . . that’s not rape. You made a conscious… ”

“Young, attractive women wield immense power over men, which they sometimes use to their advantage.” She’ll be widely attacked for this and told she’s “blaming the victim”.

    • popeye says:

There could be an even more horrendous story from someone infiltrating Antifada or Hope Not Hate. I’m sure the Beeb are working on that as we speak. /Sarc off

“Sprayed with mace by an anti-fascist counter-protester”
      Provoked by Patrik then?
“The violence in Charlottesville that day drew new attention to the rising subculture of the alt-right – an amorphous collection of nationalists, traditionalists, race obsessives, hardcore Trump supporters”
      Hardcore Trump supporter?
“They believed that people from Scandinavia are more racially pure”
That’s a new one on me, has anyone else ever heard of this?
“His initial online contacts moved swiftly to face-to-face meetings. The first came at a small pro-Brexit demonstration in London in the autumn of 2016.”
      Are all anti-Brexiteers alt-right then?
“It wasn’t a very extreme rally,” Patrik recalls.
How very extreme was it then?
“The Forum has hosted holocaust deniers and conspiracy theorists at its meetings.”
Did their numbers include BBC employees and members of Momentum?
“ “The London Forum comprises a range of people who care about their country and its demographic future and who wish to register their disagreement with the nigh ubiquitous enforced agenda of multiracialism and multiculturalism that threatens to destroy our identity irreversibly.” There is no indication that the group has been involved in terrorism”.
What is the point being made?
“He was invited to meet groups in the US and ended up at a barbecue with far-right extremists. He was even invited to speak at an event”.
How is an event in the US relevant to what is happening here?
The rest of the article concentrates on what he experiences in America.
The whole article is, in my opinion, an unfettered stream of piffle.

      • Rob in Cheshire says:

So they have muslim speakers then?

  17. Beeb Brother says:

Video on their website about a woman showing how fat women can be sexy.

They are so irresponsible: making people think it is healthy to be obese when it leads to all sorts of horrible and often fatal health problems, plus telling women men will fancy the pants off them if they are big when the vast majority will not. Single women, especially as the get older, can suffer the most terrible depression.

Open borders and anything goes – let’s get blown up, stabbed, raped or have a leg amputated through diabetes. Don’t you just love this left wing utopia?

    The beeb won’t like it.

Typical example of BBC London News editorial twisting this morning.

Their top headline: “The Met have defended themselves….”

Oh dear what have our cops done?

Keep listening and we discover the Police have a database on youth gangs… so what’s the problem you wonder…. “80% of gang members are black”

Well, you could have knocked me down with a feather.

But in what sense is this something about which the Met are required to defend themselves? Incredible twisting of the news narrative from the BBC.

  21. Doublethinker says:

Italian election results show that the 5 star movement will be the largest single party at about 31% , with the right anti immigration coalition the largest overall block at about 37% The social democrats have sunk to about 22%.
We can expect a tremendous onslaught from the EU and the rest of the Globalist world to try and force the Italians to form a government that doesn’t deport immigrants and doesn’t rock the EU boat too much. No doubt all sorts of overtures will be made to the 5 starists to join with the social democrats to form a ‘sensible’ government . Alternatively they will try and peel Forza Italia away from the right coalition and get them to work with the 5 starists . Either way the 5 starists have the EU over a barrel , I hope they use their power wisely to get at least an end to the EU taxi service and force through the deportation of as many invaders as possible. But the 5 starists don’t seem anti immigration enough to put high on their list of priorities.

  23. Beeb Brother says:

Toady talking about the ‘housing crisis.’

It is an immigration crisis. The BBC laughably says it is a source you can trust. But certain crucial questions are off-limits to them: immigration, regressive attitudes of certain cultures and countless other examples of wrongthink. The strait jacket of political correctness renders them institutionally incapable of honesty, as political correctness is essentially a war against reality. Things are wrong or right, not ‘politically right’ but actually wrong. Truth is an absolute.

    • Emmanuel Goldstein says:

It’s just as well that the 300,000 extra people coming in every year don’t need anywhere to live because we need the housing currently being built to home the growing number of large families in the ever increasing number of ‘stans around the country.

  24. Fedup2 says:

Al Beeb beating up companyies for making money from landbanking – making money as land prices go up.

But completely ignores the population issue – 500 000 more foreigners arriving in Blighty each year. How can any one build affordable homes for those ? They are not making any more land .
Deport those who shouldn’t be here and cut immigrate post Brexit – a start for a solution. . But not in the al Beeb mindset.
Even the muppet Tory minister interviewed by Humph today ignored the numbers issue .

    Sir Mo farrah
    Sir brad wiggins
    Sir David brailsford
Lord Coe. ——- all accused of dodgy practises in sport by a parliamentary committee – dis – honour them if they’ve been less than honourable ?

  25. Fedup2 says:

Toady did a fantastic bit of bias work. Interview the Italian ambassador before the full results of the election are out . Ask him whether it’s an anti EU vote . He replies that he can’t say because the results aren’t out . So al Beeb achieves what it wants and so does the ambassador .

I listened and thought – why not do the interview when the results are confirmed – that there will be an anti immigrant anti EU government in Italia at the end of the month .

And that it is okay to vote against the EU because the British have done it .

As an aside – the Italian democrat party lost power for being undemocratic . Reminds me that those parties or countries with ‘democratic ‘ on their title are the least democratic – such as the Liberal Democrats – eh Mr Clegg

  26. Al Shubtill says:

I heard an American who worked in O’Bummer’s administration, interviewed on Toady this morning about the current president’s intentions to place tariffs on steel and aluminium coming into the US.
The chap was allowed to make the claim that it would raise prices of goods in the US but didn’t substantiate that, nor was he invited to do so by Sarah Makes-u-spew.

I listened to an analysis, at the weekend, by one of the current administration’s advisers, about the suggested increases in the costs of things for Americans; as a result of a tariff of 10% on aluminium imports.
“How much would a six-pack of beer go up? 1 cent.
How much would a new car? $45.00
How much more would a $300,000,000 Dreamliner passenger jet cost to make? $20,000.”
“It is easy to quantify what such increases will be, you calculate the amount of aluminium in the product and add the tariff”
“The US aluminium industry only supplies 10% of the domestic demand for it.”

    • MartinW says:

The BBC is silent about the fact that the EU placed a 70% tariff on Chinese steel to protect steel production in Italy and other customs union countries. They are also silent about the fact that the US has a $500 billion deficit with the rest of the world, caused by unfair trade practices and dumping, and has been brought to that dire state by both Democratic and Republican presidents since Clinton.

      • Guest Who says:

        BBC editorial integrity and ‘silence’:

  27. Fedup2 says:

Al – I heard that too – a poor interview with no real challenge . Mr trump said he was going to preserve US jobs as part of his campaign – which meant putting up tariffs on dumped products . So when he carries through a promise al Beeb and the inbred democrats can only shout and scream . If it damages the krauts EUreich so much the better .

    • Kaiser says:

of course if we had a trade deal with the US we could be excluded from the tariffs

but I guess they dont mention that either

  28. MartinW says:

‘Today’ watch: Compare and contrast Humphrey’s shouty and rather aggressive interview with Javid (Cons.), full of interruptions, about the government’s rather radical moves in respect of house building, and the quiet, gentle ‘chat’ with Healey (Lab.) supposedly about the Labour Party’s policies are on housing. In fact, Humphreys allowed Healey to talk in generalities, and to criticise the Conservatives, whilst hardly anything was said about Labour policies. So, what’s new? We are not surprised.

  29. Emmanuel Goldstein says:

I knew the parties on the right had done well in the Italian elections because on bbc radio Newcastle news this morning at 7, 7:30 and 8 there was no mention of it at all.
Perhaps they think if they don’t report it then it never happened.

    • Synchronised says:

You make a very good point EG on the lack of coverage. It was apparent to all and sundry that the beeb were not covering the lead up to these elections in any depth probably knowing the way things were going. Well today they have had to peek out from behind their fingers and hope for the best. Having had quite a few visits to Italy recently the disgruntlement in the populace and noticeably the younger generations is there for all to see and hear. Trust me, this is not a rising of the far right as the MSM would have us all believe but hard working simple folk just saying enough, stop the train, we would like to get off.

    • Tabs says:

Tiny bit of a mention on the BBC News website after making a bit of room in between the non stop Oscar coverage.

Notice how the BBC compares the parties in a “where they stand” table listing Migration, Europe and Economy. I’m pretty sure the parties had more policy areas than that but the BBC are obsessed with labelling anyone “right wing” or “populist” if they don’t agree with the BBCs own migration and EU views.

I think it’s fair enough that the BBC made a lot of this year’s Oscars. After all this is the last year that the awards will feature beautiful actresses. From now on only unattractive actresses will be given roles in Hollywood films – to prove that the producers didn’t get up to anything they shouldn’t involving a casting couch.

Whatever happened to the tradition of aspiring actresses marking their promotional pictures “PRR”; shorthand for “Producers Rights Respected”.

I see all the current angst as the revenge of the ugly actresses who didn’t get an invitation to the casting couch.

      • BRISSLES says:

No doubt Frances McDormand is a great actress, but is she ‘on something’ away from the cameras ? she has a permanent surprised / irritated look on her face.

      • The Sage says:

Actors, surely. Does anyone else think it odd that the so-called “Best Actress” is then described by the BBC as an actor?

The test was popularized by Alison Bechdel’s comic Dykes to Watch Out For

    • StewGreen says:

Bechdel Test, hmm movies aren’t real life
.. They have a limited set of characters and focus on the main character,
So in a James Bond movie , Bond is in almost every scene
So you get to see him a male talking to both male and female characters, but not female characters talking to each other.
… Also the baddie character is usually a man, so much of the movie will be Bond talking to the villain

Apparently the reason why female actresses didn’t talk to each other before Weinstein was because the Patriarchy taught them not to???
So men are to blame for these rich, self indulged, self important ladies not to talk to each other…
Most women I know don’t have a problem talking to each other..What utter tosh that goes unchallenged by the BBC

  40. Tabs says:

I complained to the BBC over a week ago about an article called Melania Trump mocked for ‘positive social media’ speech. In the so-called news article was 4 tweets with about 5 to 15 likes (now increased to barely 50-100 likes even with the BBC taxpayer funded links back to Twitter) each mocking her and the BBC made this out to be factual news.
    Original article:

The BBC reply to my complaint about being biased and made up news based on a few barely liked tweets:
The aim of this article was to report on Melania Trump’s speech about the challenges faced by children, but also to report on the ‘ironic’ tweets mocking her comments.
Errr….no! Hardly a report with a title like that.

Having reviewed the article, we not only showed tweets from those who mocked her speech, but also from a supporter of her speech who posted her appreciation that ‘someone from the Trump admin. speaks out about this-good social media habits.’
Oh OK then, that removes all bias from the title and rest of the report then!

The inclusion of the fifth tweet was to provide background on how Mrs Trump has been previously ‘ridiculed for attempting to highlight the issues of online safety and ethics.’
So it’s irrelevant as I said in my complaint.

It’s also worth highlighting, that since the article was published, we’ve updated the status of the featured tweets, in that the number of likes for them has increased.
Yeah right. Even with post editing after my complaint the likes are now up to 50 to 100 likes. What percentage of the worlds population is mocking Mrs Trump now?

The article therefore provides both sides to this story, and allows readers to make up their own minds.
So basically you are telling me to go fcuk myself?

Has anyone here had a reply to a complaint where the BBC have said “after investigation we admit the article was biased and will make improvements to avoid this in future” ? Or are all the replies “we are perfect and shall carry on as before”?

Good observations. You’ve already explained away all of our incredulity in what you write in these few words though…. “if they really care about helping oppressed people…. ”

i.e. It makes sense when you realise they don’t care about helping oppressed people. They care about self-image and social status which determines the causes they select and positions they take, based on identity.

They will favour “underdogs” even when those dogs are rabid. They don’t care about the 300k homeless in Britain because most are men, for instance. But they do/would/did care about housing the several hundred illegal in Calais camps instead.

Wow. I bet that includes gays, lesbians, people with black skin, single parents and former residents of Grenfell.

A big problem for the bbc is who would play the doctors, police chiefs, the good guys and all the other roles that are for black actors.
