Midweek thread 4 December 2019

A long week of Far Left BBC bias for those who can stand it . The BBC is trying to make people forget why there is a General Election in the first place and is actively helping the Far Left Labour Party undermine the Conservative message whilst ignoring Brexit .

The NHS is ‘free at point of use’. We all contribute to it with our taxes. Yet Corbyn says it should be free to everyone as a ‘Human Right’. This is unsustainable as the video clip shows that procedures and drugs cost money. What it does not tell us is how the NHS costs these same procedures. So the public is lulled into thinking it is cheaper because it is ‘free at point of use’. Hence we do not complain vehemently to our MP’ about the cost of healthcare tourism!

Ahem! The NHS is not ‘free at the point of use’.

Has not been since 1950 or whenever Prescription Charges were introduced. If you ever hear a politician in the current era claim the NHS is ‘free at the point of use’ then you know they are being at best imprecise & careless (usually in order to deceive) or deliberately deceptive.

Apart from the fact that all UK employees contribute to it, the NHS became increasingly less ‘free at the point of use’ during the 1980s. Yet another example of how Margaret Thatcher was a rotter and rotted on us all in the changes the Government led by her introduced.

The true statement is that In an emergency, the NHS is ‘free at the point of use’.

Apart from that, with some exemptions, everyone pays for eye care, dentistry, drugs for inoculations and the injection, car parking, some tests for various fitnesses to do things and minor surgeries that are not on the current ‘acceptable list’ or are deemed ‘non-threatening’.

You are right to say that it is paid for by our taxes, Skeptic, but is far from free in use.

From her first serious illness in 2002 until her death the NHS spent about £150,000 on my wife. In that time the only cost was for dentistry and spectacles. Car parking was free for the disabled; prescriptions were free for the elderly.

AOC is one of the four US Congress ‘women of colour’ that were at the centre of the Naga Trump ‘racist’ complaint scandal.

Total government healthcare expenditure in 2017 was £197.4 billion which comes from hard-working citizens to be ‘free’ at the point of use.

I would be pretty sure that a BBC employment package for the ones we see on tv includes private health care.

I’d guess that if Corbyn won that within a year the NHS would grind to a halt with union strike activity for more pay.

Some think BBC is biased to the Conservatives –

Celtic, if Jezza truly believes in nationalisation, then he will have to privatise GPs’ practices and various other bits that were privatised under Labour 1997-2010.

If that can be accomplished, I’d be truly staggered. Jeremy Hunt knows how bolshy Junior Doctors can be and will be quick to tell him.

And if Corbyn then throws it open to allcomers from outside the UK, the system will be broken in under six months.

Large parts of the NHS are already privatised. The whole supply chain for instance, is privatised. If it were not so, think what would happen if the food supply chain to all shops, supermarkets, were managed by the guvment. Too, drug companies are private too.

Guvment ownership of the health system has been tried before. In communist countries, mortality rates were high. The only drug that was available for treatment was vodka.

Many will remember going to visit a GP and taking their turn in the waiting room – at least we got to see the doctor that day.

The GP system is one of the broken parts of the NHS where folks now choose to go to an A&E instead of waiting weeks for an appointment.

Many GP’s now only want to work part-time for the NHS to leave them free to work in the private sector.

It is to the eternal discredit of the Conservative party that Margaret Thatcher was ousted by plotters within her own party who were intent on chaining the UK firstly to the ERM, and then as an inevitable follow-on, the Euro. This act alone would have removed the last traces of democratic rule from this land. Fortunately the ERM experiment failed largely due to the machinations of a certain Hungarian currency dealer whose mere name triggers the Guido mod bots. There is a delicious irony in this. We have a lot to be grateful to her for.

Idiotboy, she did set herself up for them, though.

She had rotted on her key voting blocks too many times since 1979 and she was threatening to dismantle the UK via the Community Charge. We forget now both ‘the Scottish experiment’ and the protests and riots. Her demise was entirely due to herself, her impatience, her lack of foresight and a chronic lack of attention to detail.

The SNP’s current strength goes back to that extremely foolish ‘experiment’ on the Scottish people. That is why the UK is divided more than ever: Margaret Thatcher and the Community Charge. The tax, in itself, was a good idea. But like some of her policies it was very badly and unwisely implemented.

She was still, by some way, the best PM of my lifetime! That does not say much for those PMs who preceded her and followed her.

In truth, I suspect her dementia was kicking in long before it was formally diagnosed. The strain on that type of PM is huge and it is true that she had opposition within her own Party.

thehoiman, you think the current (protesters/rioters/Labour Party approved) system is good?

The Community Charge would have been a per capita charge, no hiding behind company tax rules, an incentive for local authorities to improve their communities instead of run them down while moaning about lack of money from Central Government. It would also have incentivised individual taxpayers to get involved in local democracy and work in partnership with their LA.

You must be crazy if you think the present system is better.

The change to the way local authorities collected rates, although badly needed, was handled very poorly. The biggest mistake was allowing local authorities to use the change to a community charge as an excuse to massively increase their income from homeowners. My own rates bill went up by a massive amount under the local labour administration. Mrs T should have seen this coming. By the way, some Scots have always harboured an irrational hatred for the English, even before the Thatcher years. The SNP’s success owes much to Mel Gibson for helping them to capitalise on this and keep the whole xenophobia thing seething. As a half-Aberdonian I find the SNP perfectly revolting.

Idiotboy, there were no rates under the Community Charge, they were abolished. You may be thinking of the current Council Tax system.

Unfortunately, the CC as introduced gave those in very large houses in wealthy LAs a massive discount over what they had previously been paying. That was then topped up from lower down the income & wealth ladder. A re-run of the first Howe Budget in 1979.

You are right about some Scots’ attitudes to the UK and Westminster/Whitehall but the failed Community Charge experiment starting with Scotland, built even more resentment which Blair was able to exploit for his own ends from 1997-on.

Politicians are often their own worst enemies: Thatcher, Foot, Kinnock, Major, Brown, any UKIP leader you care to choose except the earliest ones, Cameron, May, Johnson and Farage. That list may have Corbyn, McDonnell, Swinson and Sturgeon added to it on December 14th/15th. On the other hand, they may be busy forming a Government.

            Oh dear.

      Trump impeachment evidence ‘overwhelming’

While Donald Trump is in London, back in Washington a Democrat-led report says the evidence for impeaching him is “overwhelming”. The US president placed personal political interests above those of his country by trying to “solicit foreign interference” from Ukraine to help his 2020 re-election bid, it says. However, the White House insists the inquiry “utterly failed to produce any evidence of wrongdoing”. Mr Trump, who says he’s done nothing wrong, has described it as a witch-hunt. The House Judiciary Committee will consider the report – designed to lay out the case to remove Mr Trump from office – on Wednesday.

The Dodo said, ‘everybody has won, and all must have prizes’
    [Alice in Wonderland chapter 3]

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-50631998

‘The four artists nominated for the 2019 Turner Prize will share this year’s award after urging the judges not to choose any of them as a single winner.’

The BBC artsy egg-head and & post-dinner party appointment Will Gompertz adds his two pennerth of so-called analysis.

It would be easy to scoff at the so-called ‘art’ knocked up by this year’s crop of art school chumps. ‘Almost 95,000 people have visited an exhibition of the shortlisted works’ – I doubt many hard working honest souls would have wanted to have paid for the privilege (other than through their taxes) to witness the ‘brightly-coloured feminist fantasy world “beyond patriarchal limits”‘ the ‘film commemorating the role of women at the start of the Northern Irish Troubles in the late 1960s’ the ‘congregation of human effigies staring at a black curtain covering a window overlooking the sea’ or indeed pay to hear ‘the “audio investigator” Abu Hamdan’s sound effects, recreating the noise inside a notorious Syrian prison.’

Of course the BBC loves this stuff – just like the Blairite appointee public arts managers who revel in such tosh – this is all just excuses to propagandise the elite globalist veneer of lefty one-worldism. And the BBC takes full advantage of the opportunity to bash any niotion of any control over immigration, to bash Brexit and the Conservatives and conservatism in general.

“At a time of political division in Britain and conflict in much of the world, the artists wanted to use the occasion of the Turner Prize to make a strong statement of community and solidarity and have formed themselves into a collective.” – Up the Soviets! Man or should that be Person the Barricades!

“about social and political issues and contexts we believe are of great importance and urgency” – 40,000 quids worth, apparently – split four ways – nice work if you can get it.

Mind you, despite the dosh I’m sure these snowflakes will still be able to keep up their assumed attitude of victimhood and ingratitude, in this present “era marked by the rise of the right and the renewal of fascism in an era of the Conservatives’ hostile environment that has paradoxically made each of us and many of our friends and family again increasingly unwelcome in Britain”

I’m so tempted to shout “well eff off then…!” The BBC sees no cause to add any notion of balance or contrary view anywhere in their report. Just another artsy crafty way to get around election rules about fair political reporting, eh?

Our professorial Will Gompertz is not so daft he doesn’t worry the wheels may possibly be getting just a little wobbly on the lefty elite Turner Prize bandwagon gravy train… ‘Maybe annual awards like the Turner Prize and the Booker Prize, which also didn’t have a single winner this year, are reaching their sell-by date: an anachronism from a bygone binary age of winners and losers.’

Or we could just let the market decide what art is most favoured. I think the cold wind of the market would soon extinguish this latest collective crop of state-supported arts Dodos.

Nish Kumar is as funny as cancer.

He is the typical right on “comedian” who plays to audiences of left wing public sector “workers” who are all white and would consider not finding him “funny” to be a racist thought crime.

So he is used to getting easy laughs from people who have to find him “funny” for ideological reasons. For the same reason, he gets gigs on the BBC, and has no doubt convinced himself that he is a truly funny comedian.

This self delusion came crashing down to earth when he tried, for perhaps the first time in his life, to play to an audience of people from the real world. He lazily assumed that the sort of jokes about Brexit, Trump, Jacob Rees-Mogg and Boris, which make his usual left wing crowd hoot with right on laughter, would play equally well to an audience of ordinary people who have never heard of him.

A true comedian would be able to tailor his material for his audience, but that is clearly beyond Nish Kumar. And that is because he has never needed to go beyond his left wing comfort zone. He probably doesn’t even realise he is in a left wing comfort zone. He thinks he gets the gigs and the BBC work because he is so funny. The realisation that he isn’t, and that his lefty schtick only plays in his left wing echo chamber must have come as a profound shock to him.

Still, he can take solace from the belief that the Lords Taverners are all Brexit voting racist gammons. He will soon be back to being treated as comedy royalty by the BBC, and he will be able to put this distressing brush with reality behind him as the BBC money continues to roll in.

It can’t be a loss making as it doesn’t generate any revenues..it is the biggest sink hole in the world 🙂
What these Lefty’s don’t realise it that it as always been a private public partnership..but that is too complicated for them and soen’t fit the narrative

          • The General says:

Any organisation which spends more than it receives in revenue (regardless of source) is loss making. Should it ever become privatised it would be overwhelmed by legal claims by persons demanding access to various drugs and procedures which the clinicians have determined inappropriate or unnecessary.

Considering their undisguised loathing for Donald Trump, the BBC are jockeying for front seats, tongues hanging out waiting for “his” helicopter to arrive at the NATO conference – a bit like pop fans….

I hope if there is a press conference, Trump gives them zilch!

Also note that despite his vow, Corbyn was “unable” to have his high-noon showdown with Trump because he had lots of other bigwigs to meet. Maybe he was told to just FO by US security?

When I put the story up I said we wouldn’t hear much from the BBC on this …. and it also supports the view that politics / politicians have descended even further in status in recent years …. probably because the likes of Guido and a very few MSM journalists still do their job as opposed to supporting the bubble leftist views ( the chap at the Telegraph who broke the Rotherham Pakistani Rapist Gangs springs you mind ).

In passing on the charging of this public schoolboy with injuring a plod – the trial isn’t until February …. one might ask why such a simple case can’t be dealt with Now …..

Or might I suspect that when Diane Abbot is Home Sec next week she gets on the phone to the minister in charge of the CPS – dame Shabi and ‘has a word ‘? Just idle speculation .

Labour must be desperate for a Conservative to get a drink/drive or indecent assault / hatee words allegation to distract .

Turned on Toady this morning at around 0715.
The very first words were ‘women and ethnic minorities’.

    You can’t make it up.

Then JustRemainin Webb ‘interviews’ Barry Gardner, Labour defence spokesperson. But half the interview is on the the NHS sell-off Fake News story, leaving little time to explore Corbyn’s pacifist anti Nato pro CND credentials.
    How very convenient.

And just to complete the bias, next up is a leftie favourite story about young offenders and conditions inside for the ‘children’. Funny how ‘children’ now has a very flexible meaning on the BBC. The idea that they could have chosen not to offend in the first place is given no coverage at all.

In other words, business as usual at the bBBC.

Sluff – you’d be surprised how often you turn onto Radio 4, not just Toady, and find those to be the first words or themes. The actual words are on the air astonishingly often, as is the new favourite phrase ‘woman of colour’. If you’re a ‘woman of colour’, you currently have a very special status on R4 and there is much fussing about you, to show you are really the most wonderful of human creatures. Try ‘Wimmin’s Hour’ any day of the week, and you’re almost guaranteed both topics will be right there!
On the opposite end of the spectrum you have that favourite term of abuse: ‘Trump’. It will be mentioned by almost anyone on any topic to draw a laugh or a howl of rage – usually combined. Now that he is visiting, prepare for a torrent of negative comments. Mind you hold onto something firm, lest you are swept away!

    Sluff,
    Agreed wholeheartedly.
I turned to Toady rather later that usual about 0850 just in time to listen to the uninteresting and abnormally long feature on a black woman, think it was ‘Yomi’ or somesuch. What drivel and nonsense. That item quickly followed by the Trump Impeachment proceedings which is implied by our Marxist BABC State Broadcaster (Aka, the ‘Worlds most trusted’) to be a ‘slam dunk’ certainly resulting in the impeachment of the POTUS. Well, BABC, I’ve been intensely watching the proceeding to date live on YouTube and certainly enough to suggest to be able to say to our BABC – Dream On. What is your point BABC? This will be another Democrat / BABC (or should I say, “another beauty”)? failure. Why do it? “When in a hole, stop digging”.
There is only hearsay evidence and even that crumbles under cross examination.
I will henceforth refer to our “Worlds most trusted” as the BABC: The Black & Asian Broadcasting Corporation. Having listened to World Service during the night, its output can only be said to be for, blacks and asians.
I can’t understand why a completely new broadcaster doesn’t set up in the UK. There is clearly a substantial demand for a right wing voice. I guess, any prospectives are probably deterred by the current broadcasting cartel.

G, I too have been watching the Impeachment Hearings ( well those that the corrupt Democrats allow to be seen ) and they have no grounds for Impeachment. All the so called evidence is second hand speculation delivered by Trump haters and no matter how many times witnesses say they never heard Trump mention Biden, Democrats ignore them and press on with their speculative attacks.
BBC obviously have not been following proceeding or reading transcripts. ( Rather in the fashion of Jeremy Corbyn when it comes to reading policy documents.)…………or maybe they just do not want to face the truth.

I’ve looked at his Twitter feed, very angry, very left wing, I’m a very level headed person and rather than just dismiss others opinions and feelings I try to see them from other people’s points of view and if I can get a small amount of understanding it helps me to relate to what’s being said, even if I still don’t agree. However a just the first few of his comments and if I didn’t know better I’d think it was the feed of a student activist.

But here’s the thing, if God forbid I was to find myself in a similiar situation then you can be damn sure that I’d voicing my views to reporters. They wouldn’t be anti right politics and diversity, but we wouldn’t be that different in what we were doing, just in what the message was. And I genuinely think the message I would give would either go unreported or misreported but that’s a who,e different issue. I still remember the night of the Manchester Arena bombing and thinking that a line had been crossed but subsequently nothing really has changed.

What happened to Jack Merritt and the young lass is a tragedy, but Jack had a choice. He chose to bring this unreformed, largely unpunished Islamist with him to London. Now, tragically his virtue signalling has killed him.
And for his own father to politicise this horror, while at the same time accusing others of doing so, isn’t just deceitful, it’s disgraceful. The whole bloody shebang was a political stunt.
Jack made a decision. He had a choice. Those innocent and unsuspecting commuters walking across London Bridge didn’t.

I have a prediction to make regarding the atrocious Debden attack which killed a 12 year old child just before Christmas.

I like many others used to respect and support the Police, but since the far left Cameron made the catastrophically asinine decision to put Labour in charge (and a single individual at that not a committee) several of our cities have changed from being Police into a Gestapo like operation which is more interested in attacking our freedoms than policing crime.

So it was in Debdale. The loon in the car was known to Police, although they are not currently saying why. The car was parked in a pub car park with the perpetrator inside appearing to be asleep. The car had no insurance and should therefore not have been on the road. The Police were called but because so many were looking at facebook and twitter for the imaginary ‘hate’ they never turned up. Shortly afterwards Glover was given free rein to begin his murderous actions.

Essex Police have now referred themselves to the Police complaints commission, who will probably find that ‘hate’ was a more important priority.

So here’s the prediction. Despite the fact that the Police Commissioner is a Tory, this attack will be spun and distorted in the same way the Finsbury Park Mosque attack was, and Jo Cox to portray the attacker as some member of a far right organisation, and this in turn will be used to further oppress the British people and justify the calls of the ‘rise of the far right’ which as we all know is fiction.

The BBC will again play their part in this silencing every opposing voice telling the truth – both the FInsbury Park Attacker and Jo Cox’s murder were suffering mental health issues and were not connected to any extremist groups.

The one thing I can’t predict however is whether this is going to be released before the election, if it is then it is certain far left news media such as the BBC will be using it to attack the useless Tories who will inevitably fold, and provide a platform Labour in order to attack the white community which they hate probably more than they hate the Jews.

I see this as a significant issue for the future and that is why I have posted my prediction – to get it on the record now.

The entire tragedy of the most recent London Bridge attacks is almost matched by the seeming ineptitude of the organisation responsible for these events.

You would expect that events such as this would have its scope under strict operating procedures with personal and overall security aspects detailed in operating procedures at its forefront.

Typical of the bBC it does not investigate the shortfalls of the process but wades in to the politicization of it with an eye on how to” bash Boris”

No wonder 66% of the country now thinks the bBC is biased………..what took them so long….this great site has been highlighting it for years.

I believe ‘they’ are extremists (bad); ‘us’ are the middle ground (good).

The problem is that increased variability is a natural outcome of a group that moves from homogeneity to heterogeneity. A diverse society will have a wider range of characteristics and experiences, including jihadi tendencies.

The progressive’s wet dream is oxymoronic… it’s a vision of homogenous diversity. Or heterogeneous unity.

The whole thing’s a logical and existential mess, but that’s where we’re at now that identity politics has been turned up to 11
