Weekend Thread 25 July 2020

The BBC loves a statistic . On Twitter a bbc employee crowed that on average 438 million non UK people visit BBC News each week . And the instant response ? But they don’t have to pay for the monster ….if they want it – let them pay for it – don’t make the british taxpayer fund it through threats and prosecution .

https://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/latestnews/2020/global-reach

And – of the 1495 people employed by The Guardian – the BBC in print 180 are to be fired .

One for clear evidence of lefty bias

Daily Mail has report of Panorama being found to have breached editorial guidelines by failing to disclose a ‘ doctor ‘ was in fact a labour party candidate for becoming an MP – who happened also to be a ‘ doctor ‘

If reported here already – apols – but this one is for the record come the call for tangible evidence of BBC Bias ….

Justice for Owen Jones, attacked by far far far right thugs

    From the Guardian
‘In a victim impact statement, Jones said that while the injuries he sustained healed rapidly, there had been a longer lasting psychological impact. Despite previously being on the receiving end of online abuse, it was the first time he had been subject to a physical attack.
Philip McGhee, prosecuting, said Jones believed it was “harder to ignore online threats now” and that “he no longer feels he can walk alone, and will take taxis even for short distances as on account of this attack he feels at risk”.’

For once the judiciary have meted out some pretty harsh justice.
I think most of us saw Owen Jones after this “assault”…and there didn’t seem to be a mark on him. Of course not all bruises show and I’m not implying he wasn’t roughed up, however…I think I’ve had tougher experiences back in the seventies when Fulham were playing Millwall. And I’ve still got the scars. Anyway…

Here’s hoping that the three young Pikies, who were yesterday (amazingly!) cleared of murdering the young PC, after driving for over a mile! at breakneck speeds along narrow country lanes while the poor sod was lashed to the vehicle, will also receive lengthy sentences. It beggars belief that this wasn’t deemed a murder. You do wonder just who is on the jury.

As far as I can see this was as close to being a southern style lynching as I’ve ever witnessed. They could have stopped the car at any time. What did they think would happen to their victim?
Imagine the immense media outcry if something similar had happened to a black man. The BBC would have been reporting on this day and night. You’d never hear the end of it. There’d be endless protests, documentaries and “demonstrations”. I don’t think there would be a statue still standing.

If you can receive two years and eight months for giving wee Owen Jones a slap that registered no visible injuries, then how long should these loathsome, cowardly brutes be going down for the “manslaughter” of this decent young PC?

      I’ll be frank with you.
I’d give each one of them a very, very long stretch…

When you get 2 weeks in prison for urinating in a public place.
When you get a year(? wasn’t it) for leaving a piece of bacon near a mosk (ultimately it was a life sentence)
When you get this sentence for hitting owen…..

Then the sentence for these murderers should be at least life …
or was the very long stretch referring to their necks.

Who’d want to be a policeman eh? With the national broadcaster constantly agitating against you, accusing you of racism at every opportunity, and inciting and encouraging violent demonstrations (riots) against you.

When one of your colleagues gets killed, the killers get off a murder charge while the beeb relegates the story to ‘Regions’.

The BIG story, you see, is that someone may have been falsely charged, briefly, until charges were dropped. Why the Home page treatment? He was a ‘traveller’, so it’s back to racism. Always, always racism.

I remember my darling Dad and his contemporaries scratching their heads as my generation sang along with the Beatles, Hollies and Kinks in our bedrooms, when he compared their ‘wailing’ to his idols – Sinatra, Crosby, Como, Martin, and the groups were not the Benny Goodman/Duke Ellington,/Glen Miller that he would dance to.

BUT, leaving aside the ‘generational’ thing and the fact that music changes, those 60’s groups and the 30 years before and 20 years since, spawned music that had ‘melody’, had understandable lyrics (although who knows what Coming Together, the Beatles is all about, but great song), and you could dance to them.

Today’s ‘stuff’ has neither attributes, and in the opinion of most people is barely recognisable as ‘music’.

Now I’m of an age myself, I appreciate the music that my Dad enjoyed. And can see the pull of Sinatra – of whom its been said that a large portion of the population of the world was conceived to his music. And isn’t it telling ? that many adverts use those songs from another era to promote their products . Will grime/rap still be heard in another 50 years ? and who remembers that other fad in music that we no longer hear – punk, whatever happened to that ?

Unbelievable, that the equality obsessed beeb still dare run this blast from the past, without any shame or embarrassment.
At the VERY LEAST, they should run a ‘Men’s Hour’, if they find themselves quite unable to dispense with the special hour for women! That would be a vague but minimal gesture for our gender DISCRIMINATING public broadcaster to make.
‘Wimmin’s Hour’ is an ANACHRONISM, which proves what huge hypocrites they are. They have gone overboard for some blind equality obsession, yet this offensive Murray/Garvey team is still at it.

It could be transgenderism ( references to Lily Savage).

The decrease was more prominent in the surgeons aged over 35.”

David Vance has a long thread countering the BBC article

I have a couple of thoughts
Generally life is full colour complex, when people reduce it to black & white simplicity that is wrong.
Here that is “Masks are a magic a solution that will save lives”

#1 I bet there are some people that have already died cos they wore a mask.
There is a protocol for mask wearing
You must have clean hands, cos you are trying to keep bugs away from your face. The outside of the mask is a bug collector.
So someone has probably touched the mask then touched their nose and put bugs on it.

#2 Actually On the otherhand if the viral load needed to contract Covid is high it could be possible that used correctly even weak masks always prevent Covid. Say if you need 1000 units and the mask keeps it below that as it flushed out your nose

#3 Then on the other hand maybe flushing is rubbish
Then it could be that a mask stops 50% of the bugs
but feeling secure you decide to stick inside a room 3 times a long
so that you end up with a much bigger viral load in your nose , than if you hadn’t worn a mask.

The world has come a long way in supporting LGBTQ+ rights and CBBC have taken a huge step. On Wednesday July 22, two female characters, Jude and Cleo from ‘The Next Step’ kissed. This was the first same-sex kiss to air on CBBC and many people have said it was an important moment for LGBTQ+ rights…

The BBC on their children’s channel constantly pressurise children through imagery, children stories, and accusations of homophobia into underage sexual contact and exploration so long as it falls under LGBTQ+.

A large number of people have commented on this and the BBC have been busy censoring and removing comments that goes against the narrative.

But CBBC is more just entertainment, presumably competing with Nintendo or YouTube or other TV channels. This is not like the 80s when a lack of options meant that the CBBC was 2 hours of required viewing.

I imagine that show will be watched by very few kids, other than those forced to do so by their Corbyn supporting parents, same as the rubbish they put out: Thomas Hardy with an ethnically diverse cast or the like.

keep the fear going , Mask and quarantine so that we are all forced into compulsory vaccination. Maybe the conspiracy nuts have a point.
It is essential to remember that there has never been a coronavirus vaccine. Also no vaccine has ever gone on the market in such a short time as they propose with this one .

2 week quarantine for those returning from Spain. Why the hell anyone would want to go abroad right now is beyond me. FFS is it really worth the hassle, the half opened bars and shops, and the pigsty conditions at the airports, just to be determined to have their 2 weeks away ? Oh, and the potential of catching something, anything, Covid, either en route or at the destination.

Well, if they do it serves them right.

And despite everyone whingeing that we’re not getting back to normal quick enough, there are STILL no interviews taking place in the studio, so a good example aren’t they ? those who maintain we should ‘get out there’, as they’re still ensconced in their homes talking to the studio. Why aren’t they called out on it.

A lot of those travellers though (certainly the ones the Spanish want to return) aren’t there for one week, they’re people that part-own a villa and go for 6 weeks. Personally speaking, I’m trapped in the US right now and the sooner the whole situation can go back to normal the better. Hopefully along the lines of your “serves them right” theme where it’s about personal choice and how people (young vs old) happen to view the risks.

Another day, another attack by the BBC on Winston Churchill. Time for an active campaign to get rid of this institution with its hatred for everything English and British.

On the BBC homepage we have the following headline:
    2020-07-26-0609-homepage-01.jpg

Click on the headline and it takes us to an article that begins:
Evil Genius: What’s the verdict on these historical figures?: We are living in a time of historical readjustment. Figures from the past are being reassessed, events from yesteryear are reconsidered in a different light. Heroes are reduced to zeroes while forgotten figures are finally getting their due … Evil Genius podcast … has taken those men and women who have been cluttering up history books for ages and judged … “”

Since I don’t have a BBC license nor am I subscribed to the BBC, I am unable to listen to it. But judging from the BBC narrative elsewhere white English and British men of the past are normally judged to be racist and sexist, followed by a demand to censor and expunge their statues, names and memory from our history.

Apparently this ‘Evil Genius’ series has been going for a while. In December 2018 there was an article about it in the Telegraph – part of which is transcribed below. I have just listened to a few minutes from your link and can confirm the accuracy of the article.

Dumbing down? Kane presents youth-oriented BBC podcast Evil Genius

Last week, I wrote about Britain’s cleverest podcast. This week, with a heavy heart, I must introduce you to the stupidest. Made by the BBC, and hosted by the comedian Russell Kane, Evil Genius is intended to be a sort of Great Lives for younger audiences. Like its Radio 4 equivalent, it examines the life and work of a giant from history – Einstein, JFK, Gandhi and so on. Kane’s guests open three envelopes, each containing some sort of ghastly revelation about the hero in question (usually that they had archaic attitudes to race or sex). They must then vote on whether he or she was, on balance, evil or a genius.
The panellists are mostly little-known comedians, and stunningly ignorant. Listening to them discuss, say, Charles Dickens – “Never read any of his books. I know A Christmas Carol, ’cos I’ve seen the Muppets version” – is incredibly stressful, like watching a flock of sheep attempting to polish a Ming vase.
Not having any knowledge to contribute, the panellists try their best to make jokes. You’d think they would at least be good at that. But they are incapacitated by Millennial prudery. Lips pursed with disapproval, they gasp and tut at Einstein’s toxic masculinity, or Dickens’s habit of writing novels about things he hadn’t experienced himself. This is now considered “cultural appropriation”, fretted the panel. You might remember it as “fiction”.
The more you know about the subject in hand, the worse the agony. The episode on Evelyn Waugh almost gave me an embolism. How can you possibly judge the moral character of a novelist – especially one as deliberately dyspeptic and self-loathing as Waugh – without having read a word he wrote? “Anyone can write pretty,” sniffed one panellist, dismissing the efforts of all the literary greats at one stroke.
The worst thing about Evil Genius is that it is intentionally stupid. Even Kane dumbs himself down to suit Auntie’s condescending notion of what young people want. The extent of this deception became clear last Tuesday, when, in a neat reversal of roles, Kane was the guest on Great Lives. The hero he chose to discuss was none other than Evelyn Waugh.

The fact that the bBC are persevering with this production and currently somewhat obscurely advertising it on their Home page tells us all we need to know.

Better still (and to really wind up the left) start demanding that Mary Seacole is erased once more from history. She’s the ‘black Florence Nightingale’ that the BBC and Guardian are obsessed with. But as was common at the time, she too had some fairly choice things to say about the Jews and people from the Middle East, Asia, Africa. Basically anyone who wasn’t Caribbean or white.

If your local MP has ever said something good about her, write off and demand that they apologise for defending the indefensible (provide examples to show how wrong they were to sing her praises). And if you have a statue of her nearby, add a sign saying “racist” next to it. Then wait for the fun to begin.

Can’t help but notice some resistance in the press and even from the BBC over the latest lockdown restriction – this time on people entering the country from Spain having to quarantine for a fortnight.

BBC news on-line carries a headline: ‘Coronavirus: ‘Devastated’ travellers react to Spain quarantine rules’

The papers vary from The Sunday Telegraph’s ‘holidays thrown into chaos’ to the Sunday Mirror’s ‘Costa Del Quarantine’ to the Sunday Express ‘new holiday misery’

We’ve witnessed very little speaking truth to power push back from the media on lockdown rules – any opposition has been on the theme that we ought to have locked down earlier and harder. However, the subject of our open borders has been something of a no go area. So perhaps we should not be surprised that this new restriction on free movement is suddenly controversial with the journo class when the extraordinarily daft and ineffective compulsory wearing of face masks, for example, went by the by.

The programme ‘Sunday’ has once again been hijacked by the bbc to promote the BLM/ anti-Trump narrative, with Episcopal bishop Michael Curry attacking the Electoral College system, which he links to Southern Slavery. Drones on about the lack of ‘equality’ and ‘democracy’, without defining what he means by those terms, in a democratic country like the US.
We get the picture when the angelic George Floyd, Charlottesville and ‘Neo Nazis’ are dredged up.
Worst of all, he is constantly prompted and egged on by his scurrilous interviewer William Crawley, trying to push for ever more extreme statements. Clearly trying to outshine Ed Stourton in the Lefty stakes, this odious character prompts for the most extreme responses which even a BLM extremist like Curry, won’t fall for.
More utterly disgusting agitating from R4 and the bbc. They are really beyond the pale!
This is supposed to be a Christian programme, not an attempt at race-baiting and interfering in US politics.
Time the unaccountable beeb were held to account for such drivel! Unfortunately there appears to be only the useless Ofcom, full of beeb buddies.
So we have to continue to be disgusted, or use the ‘off switch’

If you’re the sort of person, of a sort of age, who would pick for their Desert Island Discs either of The New Seekers’ ‘I’d like to teach the world to sing’, 5th Dimension’s ‘Age of Aquarius’ or Blue Mink’s ‘Melting Pot’, then let me strongly recommend today’s The Observer magazine pull out in which Glenda Jackson pontificates on power, performance and politics.

It was 1992 when this hippie actress retired from stage and film to enter politics because she hated Margaret Thatcher (she deserves a certain kudos for actually standing for election which is rare among her sort). Think about this – 1992 – which is about the time the rot first seen in the youth of our new elite class in 1968 matured somewhat and began to properly infiltrate the establishment.
