Morning Sroblene. Is that first? Have you brought your grappling hooks to assault Labour / bbc walls?
Take care not to ding Marcus Rashford on the head, should you employ them!
He’s up there somewhere in the Labour/beeb/ strategy dug-out.

      Morning Squire Watcher!

I expect that there will be a huge outpouring of BBC bile this week about Greta Rashford and Co saving the world, and the nasty, evil politicians trying to apply common sense!

I also believe that the government will do all the ‘listening’ they have to do to appease the public, then do exactly what they did with Jaimie Oliver’s campaign to ban turkey twizzlers, i.e. let it fade into oblivion!

The illegals are not messing about in dinghies anymore, they are using tankers . This is what you get when you treat illegals and criminals by putting them up in 4 star hotels. Expect more to come despite the huff and bluster from what is in effect a supine government.
Question: how many criminals have been deported so far?

    • fakenewswatcher says:

taffman- does it matter how you reach Dover, as long as you reach it.
Border Farce, Special Boat Service, it’s all the same to them. And you can start you trip so much earlier (Lagos?) Why bother with dinghies from Tripolis? They don’t even have to request free school meals or stick up a picture of our Marcus when they get here, it will all be courtesy of some 4-star hotel!
      And lotsa lefty lawyers.

If they do get jailed , that will be four years of free food , health care and a roof over their heads in a UK slammer. More than they would get in Nigeria?
It’s over to the ‘get rich’ human rights lawyers now.

Taff, “It’s over to the ‘get rich’ human rights lawyers now.” Thats the crux of the matter, Priti should deport all the bloody foreign immigration / human rights lawyers, and that would halve the problem immediately.

taffman-I think with these illegals having the cheek in going
for trying to hijack a tanker that 4* hotels are not good enough
for them . For me they should be put up in the Dorchester or
      Claridges at least!

        Free meals row

Donald Trump and Joe Biden during the final TV debate

Ministers are continuing to insist they will not bow to pressure and fund free meals for school children in England over half-term. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have all introduced schemes, but their Westminster counterparts argue there’s already a safety net in place for those who need it, including increased Universal Credit. That’s despite demands for a rethink by a number of Conservative MPs, who feel the government is losing the argument and should put a new system in place by Christmas.

More than 800,000 people have signed a petition started by footballer Marcus Rashford calling for provision to continue in the holidays. Some local councils – including Conservative-run ones – have promised to supply meal vouchers, but Labour says a postcode lottery means many will lose out. Thanks to Rashford, scores of pubs, cafes and restaurants have also offered free food.

In England, about 1.3 million children claimed free school meals in 2019, and analysis by the Food Foundation estimates a further 900,000 may have sought help since the start of the pandemic. One woman, Danielle, told the BBC what holiday hunger felt like for her as a child, and how she often resorted to shoplifting or “bin-diving” to cope.

        ***
The ‘row’ is entirely stirred by the media, fed by the Rashford activist PR machine, serving up a ‘Danielle’ selected Vox pop to order via the special line.

That she is necking eight pints at the local probably covers the cost of ‘free’ turkey twizzlers for her brood in the play area.

But she says if people from these backgrounds stopped working, her department and much of the hospital would probably grind to a halt.

    On Toady at 0710.
News about the SBS raid on the oil tanker in the Solent.

The story they want us to focus on is the raid by the SBS on potentially violent stowaways.

The story they don’t want us to focus on is the existence of another illegal route into the UK. So much easier than hiking across Africa and Europe at huge cost and then getting an inflatable across the channel. An oil tanker. That’s the ticket.

But is was selective memory time again at the BBC. It was mentioned that the Ship’s Master knew the stowaways were on board but only told the authorities when things kicked off.

Which begs questions not asked by the BBC’s highly paid presenters. Such as a. What would he done if things hadn’t kicked off? Nothing? And b. Was he therefore in fact complicit?
Obviously too near the bone for illegal immigrant loving LeftMob BBC.

There was a hilarious moment later. In the headlines at 0730 this story was immediately followed by one about lawyers writing to the Guardian about a government attack on Lefty lawyers (such as those endlessly supporting asylum seekers) !!!!!!!!!!

I’d like to think the editor was ‘avin’ a larf but I realise it was just an inadvertent juxtaposition from a breed who are too Far Left to have a sense of humour.

Enders Analysis released this research on 26 October 2020. It has been emailed in full to subscribers. A brief description follows:

In this report, we examine the completion rates of every scripted series since 2018 across all the major UK broadcast channels
Comparing scripted programmes across different channels by overall viewing is difficult as these numbers are affected by promotion, prominence, competition, the quality of online player UIs and availability
The rate that series are completed—viewing of the final episode as a proportion of the first episode—eliminates these and allows comparison

I would like to make two points:

    1) #DefundTimDavie. Two months into Tim Davie reign as director general of the BBC it has become clear that he is the wokest kid in town. Yet I thought he was a “conservative” and was going to clear up the BBC. Is it something to do with the fact that he is white and he is a man that he feels the need to prove to others that he is one of the acceptable white men? Hence his zeal to accelerate the woke agenda.

    2) One of the things that I would find useful is to have a discussion thread on this forum (or a linked discussion forum) with people on this forum – using their available expertise and experience to discuss things. For example many people say that “cultural change” is being led by “Marxists” but I think that is debateable.

Ps: On point 2 I think this would have to be a linked blog or forum because it would detract away from the primary goal of this site and put more admin onto already overworked volunteers. Hence maybe someone could recommend a blog or forum for that.

The simpletons don’t even realise they are following the Marxist playbook. Take (perhaps) BLM for example.

… Marxist who was routed in his TalkRadio interview as he spouted Marxist dogma.

Also see the way lefty orgs keep reinventing themselves with different names

The way that orgs talk about a Great Reset, or new world order

It’s a long held and great British tradition to attempt to glorify in some way our most embarrassing military blunders. The Charge of the Light Brigade, Rorke’s Drift, Dunkirk… and so it is that our media would have us forget the wider picture of our abject capituation to the apparently irrestible forces of third world irregular channel invaders of 2020 and focus instead some supposed pride in how: ‘SBS Storm Hijack Ship. Special Forces take just nine minutes to overpower Isle of Wight “Pirates”‘ (The Metro).

Gosh, medals and plaudits all round chaps! We understand the African stowaways originally overpowered the crew of the ship armed with ‘poles, urine and feaces’ and issued ‘verbal threats’ – so it must have been pretty hairy out there for our brave boys.

Pirates, eh? Haul ’em off and clap them in (hotel) irons, trouser presses and minibars. That’ll show ’em, me hearties! Maroon ’em in some suburban location and surround them with human rights lawyers, make a real example of ’em, eh…?

Makes you proud to be British.

The Mirror has little doubt in: ‘Marcus: the pride of Britain. He gets Mirror award as PM urged to meet him’

Now then little Johnny, this is your pocket money, but this here is your school dinner money, see the difference? (child looks bemused and frankly so am I).

‘More cash for poorest as PM seeks end to school meals row’ (The Times)

To our elder generation. Perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised that the children of the 1960s would eventually mature into a second crazy hazy youth – “Turn on, tune in, drop out” as LSD hippie guru Timothy Leary would have had it.

Legalise it, we’ll advertise it in the Times this morning: ‘Prolific drug users will no longer face prosecution’

Meanwhile the Express has: ‘Dementia patients drugs scandal. Anger as use of “risky sedatives” rises in pandemic’ and on a similar theme the Telegraph ponders: ‘As delirium is recognised as symptom, how covid is messing with our heads’

It’s a world-wide phenomenon. The Americans seem set to elect a doddery spaced out geriatric liberal: ‘Biden has three-point lead in pivotal Texas’ (Telegraph)

‘Hospital food must be served on china plates, NHS told’ (Telegraph). Which tells me the NHS has been favouring the tupperware. Oddly enough the Daily Mail are still promoting their: ‘Free Laura Ashley tea set’ – I’m not sure I can expect the multi-layered floral print porcelin cake stand but as a patient one might prefer not to feel as though one were in the canteen in Porridge being served a dollop of lumpy custard in a plastic bowl by Luke Warm the trustee. At least treat NHS patients as well as our four star asylum seekers.

The ‘i’ is celebrating its tenth birthday and is disarmingly frank: ‘The story of ‘i’, tricky start and sceptics’. And of course the virtual liberal paper has to celebrate: ‘Black, British and in business. The entrepreneurs fighting racism’ – presumably the leftwing cure for black unemployment is to put them to work fighting racism. Now I’m beginning to understand.

The Mail promises: ‘Twelve minute covid test in Boots. 97% accurate swabs available in stores within weeks’ – but wait a minute, very quick rough and ready maths – current daily testing is finding 6% positives (official figures: 340k tests, 19k positives) so a 3% error could be equal to half of the positive results (by all means check my workings) ?

And what of the 1%? The FT points out: ‘Private jet operators reap windfall as wealthy flyers splash out to avoid virus’

How long can the BBC bang on about Rashford for? Anything that hits their narrative G spots and it’s saturation coverage. We got two weeks over Cummings shockingly having to care for his sick child as he succumbed to a lethal plague. A career criminal who resisted arrest whilst overdosed on drugs died and we had months and months of coverage.

Why do we pay for an absurd number of BBC ‘journalists’ when they just say about five narratives constantly? Trump is bad. Tories are bad. Immigrants are fantastic. Women can only be victims. As well as being lazy, cowardly and moronic it is so, so boring. It has become the Groundhog Broadcasting Corporation.

I hadn’t realised how rapid the decline or wokeness of the BBC had happened. Last night on BBC4 I watched an interesting programme about the history of wheat production in the UK….. and it was informative.
However the history was focussed through three farming families, one in Northumberland, one in East Anglia and one in Essex. All were white. The interviews were with old white MEN who told the story of their families over the last 80 years. The programme told us about the dire state of farming in the 1930s, how combines had helped with food production during WW2, the reasons for subsidies for wheat before we joined the EEC, why the EU provided support for farming, why set aside happened and how pesticides were used without regulations (although there was a slight reference to DDT and thinning wild bird egg shells. What wasn’t mentioned was climate change, interviewing women, showing women driving a combine (the Lloyds Bank advert at the moment does that) or finding a black farmer. However the farmer in Northumberland had gone organic and the economic reasons he had done that.
So there was the beginnings of wokeness present – ie the DDT, the organic farmer. But the programme informed and was not judgemental.
The programme was made during the 2008 harvest and was dated 2009. The amazing thing is that they allowed it to be shown in 2020 even on BBC4.

I smell collusion between the crew of the tanker and the Nigerian “stow-aways”. Apparently the crew knew for some time they were aboard so why wait until inside UK waters and just off the coast before alerting the authorities, I think I know. and suspect that brown envelopes were involved.

To halt this in it’s tracks, the UK should just have just turned the ship around and sent it back.

If the UK Government fall for this fairy story it will say much about our Border Force…

As the winter weather sets in this will become the route of choice to avoid the rough crossing in the channel.

The smugglers must be so pleased that the UK are so unwilling to halt their industry.

I said same to wifey…the crew knew they were there..at least one/some of them did and money was involved – which crew and where are they from..guess it isn’t the UK. So Capt, prob not from UK says let’s do an SOS they will come and take you away but don’t worry the air fare will be zero and you will get whisked straight to your hotel without customs checks..

How much did the SBS etc cost the UK? probably pay for a few school meals…

Any MP that doesn’t condemn this and say they should be sent straight back to wherever the boat last docked should be deselected…

can’t wait for BBC to paint a different picture….

I also believe that the decision to send in “Elite” Forces was a PR attempt to obscure the situation by the Police, Navy, Border Force, Government etc.

The story then becomes all about Brave troops defusing a potentially volatile situation rather than a weak Border Force ferrying them in which is what in effect happened.

They might as well have just let the ship dock and allow the “stowaways” to just amble off into the night…

The problem for the current Government over free school meals is that, along with Governments from the Labour Party, over the last sixty years they have created a society where marriage for life is not valued, multiple partners have been no longer looked upon as a poor choice or a less than ideal situation and single parenthood is not just enabled but enhanced and encouraged. It is now something of a ‘Badge of Honour’.

In addition, working some distance from where you live has become the norm.

Therefore you have very few stay-at-home mothers, supported by a working husband. In addition, grandparents are more likely to live some way away than ever before or could even be working themselves (and more likely to be single/divorced/separated) than ever before. You have more women working than ever before – who are ‘time poor’ – and multiple sibling households requiring feeding all year round and when there are school holidays and a single working mother what is likely to happen?

As the saying goes: ‘It ain’t rocket science.’

When Rashford first started banging his gong (about hungry children*), the PM and Dom Cummings both read the situation and played the situation badly. Same with the House vote on the issue.

Now they have a much bigger problem and the egg is all over the faces of the PM, the Cabinet and the SPADs. Choose your battles wisely, Prime Minister, and when you do make sure that they are ones in which you have a good and probable chance of victory.

    * I ought in fairness to point out that children are always hungry – hence the obesity crisis – and requiring much feeding, the little gannets, bless ’em.

Further to the good points you have made about this free school meals debate, the answer to child hunger and poverty in my view is not ever-increasing amounts of welfare but JOBS – specifically the right type of jobs.

The first thing I would do is end this lockdown pantomime and get the economy moving again.

But the second thing I would do is recognise that we need to bring back manufacturing jobs to this country. We have to acknowledge that many people on welfare are unskilled and barely literate. They are not unemployed because they have not been given opportunities. It is because they have below average IQs. We are afraid to acknowledge this stark fact in these politically correct days in case it appears that we are calling people thick. But we must acknowledge it. It doesn’t matter if you send these people to university to acquire worthless degrees in mickey mouse subjects, they will never become investment bankers or start up their own tech companies or even secure the typical job that is on offer in the service economy of this information age. But they can do the type of factory job that used to be plentiful in this country before manufacturing companies discovered outsourcing and offshoring. With this type of work, the average man can have a full-time job with a good wage, he can keep his marriage together, regain a sense of self-worth and not become dependent on the state. And feed his kids – all by himself.

(Trump has realised all this in America. He is putting his own people first and is bringing these jobs back from overseas. That is why the ordinary working man loves him.)

Zelazek, I agree but jobs and working (whether single or not) Mums are really at the heart of the problem. We are seeing the culmination of a lot of social trends, either encouraged or allowed to happen or happened by accident, to our UK society because politicians and Civil Servants are chronically poor at asking ‘What if’ questions and even worse at answering them.

Politicians of all political colour are equally guilty of this although some have mendaciously made specific changes that affect the UK economy and society to make life difficult or impossible for ‘the other lot’ or to advantage themselves come Election time or both.

On R4 Andrew Marr is looking at the rise of China over ‘the West’. I thought immediately of the two capitals Beijing and London (a factor not mentioned in ‘Start the Week’, but highly symbolic); no more was required.
Beijing run by Chinese for Chinese with a view to promoting the interests of China (and the CCP!) London run by er…the Diverse for…er the Diverse with a view to representing …er..Diversity.

Looks like no contest, right there. Don’t need to explore all the other factors Marr’s guests prattle on about.

Take any little thing: who has been hyped up to the rafters by the ‘public broadcasters’? Why, for us, it’s footballer Marcus Rashford, who has almost reached parity with Boris, claim beeb, for wanting free school meals for ‘starving’ kids (but not with his own cash). His Election credentials (allegedly our strong point as democracy): ZERO
I’m going to try find out who has been hyped up in China, but I somehow doubt it will be a footballer whom the Chinese media want to sit opposite Xi Jinping to discuss free school meals during the holidays!
Please, let’s not hear any more about how we are a democracy, either.

Radio 4’s Feedback on Sunday has now achieved a first, not a single listener-initiated item.

We were told how marvellous Across The Red Line was. Roger Bolton pushed, yet again, the BBC Big Lie that the UK has never been so divided, (who could have done that Roger, if that is true?). Then Mark Damazer, an ex-controller of Radio 4, told us what he thought the new chairman should be like.

Two Americans were exposed to Americast and didn’t get exactly excited about it.

When are listeners going to be allowed to actually give feedback on BBC radio?

Of course there is no point as the BBC always gets it ‘just about right’.

You know, I’m beginning to wonder how my old mum ever fed us when we were kids. How on Earth did she manage?
These days it seems the state is supposed to feed children, not only when they’re at school, but also during the school holidays. Why FFS?
I mean, if you’re a parent don’t you have some responsibility for bringing up your own children? Where the Hell will all this end?

In real terms food has never been more plentiful or cheaper. When I was a wee sprog if we had chicken for Sunday dinner I’d be boasting about it when I went to school on Monday morning. Things are so much cheaper now. On Thursday I picked up a tray of chicken thighs from Morrison’s for under £2.00. I finished them yesterday, so they’ve fed me for four days.

It’s so bloody typical of the BBC to be cheer leading for this pointless, virtue signalling, campaign. It makes them look all kind and cuddly. A bit like old jug ears Lineker making noises about accommodating illegal immigrants. It’s political posturing.

Here we are with the covid chaos, lunatic local authorities locking down their communities, businesses going bust, the economy tanking, unemployment sky rocketing and they’re pretending to fret about school dinners.

It’s like Douglas Bader worrying about an ingrowing toenail…

It does not matter what Judge Barrett’s private opinions of climate change, abortion or same sex marriage are.

Her only job as a Supreme Court Justice is to understand the Constitution of the United States, and then decide if a law is or is not constitutional.

In the past 50 years the Supreme Court has begun to act like a branch of the legislature, and thus debased itself. The only way the left got what they wanted about abortion or same sex marriage was by ignoring the voters and finding left wing justices who would magic up “constitutional rights” to these things out of thin air.

I believe Judge Barrett will act honestly and in accordance with the Constitution. That is exactly why leftists are against her. An honest judge is anathema to them.

Some years ago, a great chum had a girlfriend who bought all sorts of overpriced stuff in Bond Street.

He once asked her if she could get him a new pullover, so she went to some shop with a few in the window, and went for one she thought he might like. She also looked at a belt for – wait for it – £1,550!

The bloke behind the counter didn’t tell her about the prices until it was nearly too late, so she got a bit cross when she was handed a bill for nearly £4,000. Luckily she noted that the jersey was only half cashmere, so gave it back, but the belt still stayed in the bag…

Sometime later, she was chatting with chums, and discovered that that particular shop only catered for money, pinched from Overseas Aid, and spent every hour of the day by foreign ‘diplomats’, clearly parked on the double-yellows outside the shop! The shop only existed for such people…

But this is Bond Street, so anything can happen there – if you have the dosh that is!

    2) The huge scandal of the msm and social media doing everything in their power to ignore, block, censor and sideline the story in a thousand different ways.

I myself have had posts ‘disappeared’ on Facebook Messenger for including links to the above stories.

In their place Fb posted, verbatim:

I had booked an appointment . They examined my ipad and decided it was worthless ….

I had done my research and amazon was selling it for £80 below the Apple price . So i told the nice apple lady this .

She checked the amazon site and saw that what i said was true. So apple matched it . Then they found that the shop had no stock – but another London had it – i would have to go there and go through the whole process again .

    So i did .

At the other Apple shop i explained the price difference . The apple chap said” we can go upto 10% “ and ten per cent amounted to £110 pounds . So i sort of ‘saved ‘ £110 of the list price .

This seems to apply to all apple products …
    Just for your information ….

Last year I decided to enter the 21st century and replace my Nokia. As I had parked my car in the free Tesco’s car park and walked through their shop, I thought I would make enquires there. The very bored young woman told me that the identical iPhone would be half price at Argos. I actually didn’t bother with Argos either as it was half price at the nearby Carphone Warehouse. Buyer beware.

But thanks Fedup, I hadn’t realised old iPads have value.

Deborah – I did substantial research as it was a big buy on a top of the range jobby —-as for the trade in – it’s on the Apple UK site – you just put the serial number in and general condition – basically whether it works or not…. if it doesn’t they’ll offer to ‘scrap’ it for you for free …. bit mean I reckon as they could at least offer a few quid for some charidee …..

Here’s a classic piece of BBC propaganda. Want to discredit anyone who thinks we don’t need lockdown? Find the most extreme, wacky example you can and imply they represent everyone.

Meanwhile, unperson anyone such as Mike Yeadon who puts a good case that you can’t easily refute.

Do you really believe she’s not a paid operative? Did you SEE her at Trafalgar Square (and all that followed…)

Yes I think that MO is common

and thus dismiss the whole field as Conspiracy Theory Nutters”
