Weekend Thread 20th March 2021

In one small incident on BBC Breakfast TV on Thursday the British taxpayer was given direct evidence of the true views of BBC staff. The lie of an ‘unbiased ‘ ‘neutral ‘ BBC was lifted as two presenters sneered at the Union Flag . Maybe it’s time for a makeover – and remove the ‘British ‘ from the BBC. One incident to remember .

    Mr AsISeeIt’s Law

There’s a peculiar slow news mood in the press this weekend as our media seems to have battered the virus almost into submission with coverage; the papers instead slide into a lethargic something must be done campaigning mode, but flounder about for a suitable target.

The Irish-flavoured TV comedy Father Ted gifted to us the gag about the placard slogan “Down with this sort of thing” when the hapless priests were ordered by their bishop to protest on some issue.

And so it is in the papers today.

The formerly patriotic Sunday Times, for reasons unfathomable, considers it’s about time it set its sights on the hereditary peerage: ‘Revealed. The truth about the peers who are born to rule

Quite what brought on this end of the peer show may be obscure but the Times has declared open season on the lords of the manor and they are apparently fair game: ‘£47m amount claimed in expenses since 2001. 71 average age. 46% how many went to Eton. 0 number of women

Older white men, as we will see again and again this weekend, are about the last category of prey allowable in the cross hairs.

As for any proposed constitutional change, I take the Churchill attitude that our system, whatever its faults, may be the least worst of set ups. Change it at your peril. Don’t fix what ain’t broke. Watch out for the unintended consequences.

Would Labour supporters wish more Tory crony appointees in the second chamber? Would Tories want more common purpose alligned quangocrats to take up places?

And what has an activist House of Lords done for us recently?

A 6pm curfew for all men has been suggested by a Green Party peer today “which would make women feel a lot safer”… Baroness Jones spoke in the House of Lords during a debate on domestic violence this afternoon‘ (My London News, Thursday 11th March)

Go back to sleep, m’lords ‘n’ ladies, go back to sleep, please.

There’s a none too subtle juxtaposition made on the frontpage of the still pining for Brussels Times: ‘Exclusive. William’s “frustration” at Johnson’s prorogation of parliament‘ – Prince William’s frustation at his mum being drawn into a constitutional morass or maybe the Times’s unending frustration at Brexit?

Frankly, as a traditionalist and monarchist, one found oneself rather frustrated with the Queen that she wasn’t just a tad more proactive constitionally in upholding the wishes of her people against an obstructionist pro-EU parliament that wanted to block Brexit. If the Windsors are going to enjoy their titles as constitutional monarchs by popular conscent then they really ought to be prepared to engage as arbiter in a moment of constitutional crisis rather than run a mile when things get tricky. But I digress.

The Mirror campaigns against police, men and policemen: ‘Special investigation. Shameful. Sexism, sleaze and bullying rife in the police, claim former officers. Top cop: why my daughters would never join the force‘ – really, there’s a “top cop” still calling the police a “force” and not a “service” – do I smell a rat? No wonder this is an ex-cop.

Suing the Met Ex-cop Nusrit Mehtab‘ – good luck to her, I suppose she has a good case? In any case, when she wins compensation and my local police station is closed due to budget constraints at least I’ll know where some of the cash went.

The attack on the cops is not exclusive to the Mirror. The Observer piles in: ‘Revealed: list of sex abuse claims against Met officers

What will it take to get judges to see sense on violence against women?‘ – asks Catherine Bennett in the Observer – oh, I don’t know… how about the laws we already have on the statute books?

The Sunday Telegraph goes all jingoistic and wants to fight the Russian bear: ‘SAS takes fight to meddling Russians

I can’t help but smile at the language employed here – meddling Russians… what are we Scooby-Doo? Did poor old David Cameron say of his referendum defeat, when we finally pulled his pro-Brussels mask off – “I’d have gotten away with it if hadn’t been for dem meddling Russians”?

It gets worse: ‘Special forces to work with MI6 to counter wide-ranging threat from Moscow’s spies‘ – wide-ranging seems to me a sinister cover-all reds-under-the-bed fuss about not very much to me. Remind me which country it was that launched the covid and wiped 10% off our GDP without having to fire a shot?

The Sunday People goes with an odd one: ‘Victims can ban abusers from the pub‘ – on the basis I’m presently banned from all pubs I’m forced to reflect who it is I’m supposed to have abused so as to have been condemned to this cruel and unusual punishment?

I’m being flippant of course – and of course the People have a male abuser and female victim in mind and yet another bit of odd preferential legal addendum is being written in to further complicate English Common Law: ‘Kay’s law named in honour of murdered carer

Here’s something one had not previously considered. To hell with all these peerages and landed titles, the highest available honour in life, the finest epitath achievable, is to have some right-on sub-clause law named in one’s honour. Mr AsISeeIt’s Law?

The MSM dont examine it because they all dream of advancement anyway.

Whenever challenged the two main reasobs given for continued existance is

        1 members’ ‘expertise ‘

2 it finishes off stuff the commons has put through

I could demolish both shallow arguments easily – the high point being –

1 it is undemocratic – in fact anti democratic ( see brexit )

2 it fails to quality control key legislation – eg fixed term parliament act which led to the obscenity of the last parliament – which must never be forgotten .

Wont even talk about numbers , backgrounds or costs …..

By the way – you can see why certain ex PMs dont take their seat – it would get on the way of filling their bank balance – see

        Cameron and Blair ….

Why are the BBC spending OUR money on staff to write lengthy, 100% woke, totally irrelevant stories like this ?.
Apparently it warrants double the size of the other story which caught my eye:

But of course the latter is a bit to close to the bone for the BBC with all the Pakistani rape gangs over here and it’s only there because it will be noted if they don’t cover it.

Whatever the rights, wrongs and theories about the China virus and the vaccine, the EU have shown their true colours in their mishandling of the whole thing.

If ‘our friends’ as the useless incompetent tories refer to them on the continent do indeed prevent deliveries then it’s time for a full boycott of all things EU. German cars, no thanks, french wine, buy Australian, Spanish salad, grow your own. Dutch cheese, plastic tripe. Get cheddar. Holiday in Southern Europe, Nien. Let the Germans have the sun beds.

So, there I was the other evening, mug of tea, beans on toast (the high life!) and I thought “I’ll have a bit of telly.”

Richard Osman’s light hearted quiz was on…House of Games…I think it’s called. Four celebrities, usually people I’ve never heard of, struggling to answer questions. You know the format…

I caught it the other week when the ultra dumb blonde, Melinda Messenger, told us, straight faced, that Queen Elizabeth the first came to the throne in 1903. That had me choking on my sardines I can tell you! So, using Melinda’s time frame I’m guessing that Francis Drake saw off the Spanish Armada in about 1916 …

Last week, that well known intellectual heavyweight and doyenne of numerous chat shows, June Sarpong was one of the contestants.

Well blimey, I always suspected that she wasn’t the brightest light bulb on the Christmas tree, but ye gods, SHE’S THICK!

She came last each day and on one memorable occasion actually managed the almighty feat of scoring nil points. This really is something of an achievement because due to her quite stunning stupidity they started bowling her some really soft questions. “Now June, the capital of England is…I’ll give you a clue, it begins with L…”

I hear that our June has been awarded both the MBE and OBE for services to broadcasting and now has a nice little number at the BBC in charge of some diversity board. FFS, what the Hell is going on? I wouldn’t trust this woman in charge on my ironing board!

Surely it can’t be long before this intellectual titan is ensconced in The House of Lords. Lecturing us all about white privilege.

    Beam me up Scotty…

Knowing that Osman is no slouch in the intelligence stakes, I often wonder what he quietly thinks of the numbnuts in those chairs. Another pearler is Denise Van Outen, who had no idea where (or had even heard of) the Golden Gate Bridge was. Another on her team placed the Niagara Falls in Florida. Doesn’t it make you weep.

As for Sarpong. This woman’s only skill is nodding like one of those ‘nodding dogs’ in the back window of a car, when she takes part in what is laughably termed as a serious debate. This woman has written books apparently (for what age group ? who knows), but I can only imagine her numerous wigs and make up distract from her lack of debating (and intelligence) skills.

More interesting is the front page of Al Beeb’s house journal, in this case the Sunday issue aka the Observer (of anything that can be used against a Tory Government). It concerns complaints of sexual misconduct against the police.

Did the Grauniad/one-eyed Observer ever run a front page on long running child grooming by Asian perverts, mainly in cities run by their Labour friends who knew exactly what was going on?

Interesting to see France head coach accusing the Welsh of ‘stage managing’ red card incidents to ensure sendings off.
I somehow doubt that he would support the notion that two outrageously biased and disgracefully poor French ‘referees’ did their best to ensure that the England team were well beaten against both Wales and Ireland.
This is not to excuse our poor performances, but the negative psychological effect of playing 16 is as inevitable as it is frustrating. Compare the fair and measured performance of Pontypool-born Luke Pearce with either of the pedantic French clowns to see how, in a large part, the Wales-France game flowed so brilliantly – even with all the TMO.
At least, the French being the balanced and mature nation we know and love, any decisions being influenced by Brexit or Astra-Zeneca are unlikely. Or put another way, about as likely as Huw Edwards being told to put his flag away with good grace.

‘US election: Trump tells Georgia election official to ‘find’ votes to overturn Biden win’ BBC

Big big fake news story…one that was used to try and impeach Trump…fake news fabricated by the Democrat Washington Post and spread around the world…the Guardian and BBC both reporting it as fact….however, despite the wall-to-wall coverage then, now the real facts come out the BBC and Guardian have gone quiet…the Washington Post has had to issue a correction but the BBC and Guardian? Not so much.

‘“Correction: Two months after publication of this story, the Georgia secretary of state released an audio recording of President Donald Trump’s December phone call with the state’s top elections investigator. The recording revealed that the Post misquoted Trump’s comments on the call, based on information provided by a source. Trump did not tell the investigator to ‘find the fraud’ or say she would be ‘a national hero’ if she did so. Instead, Trump urged the investigator to scrutinize ballots in Fulton County, Georgia, asserting she would find ‘dishonesty’ there. He also told her that she had ‘the most important job in the country right now.’ A story about the recording can be found here. The headline and text of this story have been corrected to remove quotes misattributed to Trump.”’

The BBC was really keen to ‘fact-check’ Trump’s call on the day after…

‘Georgia election: Donald Trump’s phone call fact-checked’

That’s despite the BBC not having an actual recording of the phone-call….kind of difficult to fact check something you don’t have and are relying on information provided by an unknown source huh?

The BBC isn’t so keen to fact check the truth now as the audio is released and it is found that the Washington Post ‘misreported’.

From The Arab News….lol…not the BBC…

‘The Washington Post has admitted it misquoted former US President Donald Trump in a misleading story surrounding alleged voter fraud in the state of Georgia.

In the article that was later cited by Democrats in their impeachment documents against the then president, Trump was incorrectly quoted as having told the chief investigator of the Georgia secretary of state’s office to “find the fraud” in the state’s presidential election and she would become a “national hero.”’

….‘ Mark Hemingway at the Federalist, an American conservative online magazine and podcast, said Trump’s alleged pressuring of Georgia officials went on to be cited by democrats in the US House of Representatives during the impeachment articles against Trump.

“A few weeks later, house democrats would cite the article and its fabricated quotes on page 10 of their impeachment brief, as well as highlight the article and its fake quotes in oral arguments during the televised impeachment trial,” Hemingway said.

He went onto say that had the story been accurately reported it would still have been impactful.

“Even accurately reported, the story may have been newsworthy or unflattering to Trump, but there’s a huge difference in criminal intent between a frustrated and addled Trump asking an investigator to look into fraud he genuinely believes is real versus pressuring the investigator to invent it,” Hemmingway said.

And he cited the female investigator on the phone call as having told local news “she did not perceive any pressure from the president’s call.”

Hemmingway slammed the retraction as being too little, too late: “A correction two months after the fact, when the story has already played a significant role in shaping perceptions of political events, seems wholly inadequate.”’

Waking up to R4’s Sunday programme rejoicing at a Muslim actor being nominated for Best Actor Oscar. Some paranoid Muslim commentator claiming this ends the Academy’s disgraceful 91-year history of failing to represent Muslims.

I hate hearing idiocy on the radio. I particularly hate the unchallenged idiocy otherwise known as BBC journalism. The reason Muslims haven’t been nominated for Best Actor Oscars is because cinema has been a white European invention and industry. For most of its history, Hollywood has made films about and for its main audience – white Christian Americans. Why wouldn’t it?

    • BRISSLES says:

In this age of wanting everybody to be involved in everything regardless of whether they’re any good at it and providing they’re not white, logic flies out of the window.

Was the question asked on R4, ‘how many awards has a white European / American won for a performance in Bollywood ? ” And yes the originators of cinema were not people of colour, with many being Eastern European Jews. I would ask that if these jewish people coming from equally poverty stricken areas as those in Muslim or African countries, could make their mark in the world of making movies, then why couldn’t anyone else ?

Now we see the entertainment industry falling over themselves to make amends in their rush for diversity, even giving posthumous awards to actors of colour. Of course there should be changes, but from what I’ve seen there’s an inordinate amount of tokenism going on, and a lot of rewards being handed out for mediocre acting skills.

I’ve recently been watching a lot of Spanish cinema on Netflix (my Spanish has improved 100% as a result), and they at least have remained true to period depictions. Dramas set in the 20’s and 50’s have been free of any diversity washing.

    The Bacchae
    In Our Time

Melvyn Bragg and guests discuss Euripides’ great tragedy, which was first performed in Athens in 405 BC when the Athenians were on the point of defeat and humiliation in a long war with Sparta. The action seen or described on stage was brutal: Pentheus, king of Thebes, is torn into pieces by his mother in a Bacchic frenzy and his grandparents condemned to crawl away as snakes. All this happened because Pentheus had denied the divinity of his cousin Dionysus, known to the audience as god of wine, theatre, fertility and religious ecstasy. ‘

The Sahara is getting massively greener, so is the Amazon, so is the Arctic..and no doubt all around you is getting greener….a balance will be reached eventually as plants absorb CO2 more and more and the effect is diminished…but the effect of more CO2 is obviously huge and beneficial.

    From NASA…

‘Carbon Dioxide Fertilization Greening Earth, Study Finds

From a quarter to half of Earth’s vegetated lands has shown significant greening over the last 35 years largely due to rising levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide, according to a new study published in the journal Nature Climate Change on April 25.

An international team of 32 authors from 24 institutions in eight countries led the effort, which involved using satellite data from NASA’s Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer instruments to help determine the leaf area index, or amount of leaf cover, over the planet’s vegetated regions. The greening represents an increase in leaves on plants and trees equivalent in area to two times the continental United States.’

‘‘Global Greening’ Sounds Good. In the Long Run, It’s Terrible.

Rising carbon dioxide levels are making the world greener. But that’s nothing to celebrate. ‘

No real reason…just that it may, may, may all end one day…..and then climate apocalypse…

    ‘Global Greening Won’t Last Forever

There’s still a lot that Dr. Campbell and his colleagues don’t understand about global greening. Most importantly, they don’t know how long it will last.

As temperatures rise and rainfall patterns change, plants may stop soaking up extra carbon dioxide.

“Plants are quietly scrubbing the air of one China’s worth of carbon. What frightens me is knowing this can’t go on forever,” said Dr. Campbell. “If respiration catches up with photosynthesis, this huge carbon reservoir could spill back into our air.”

As far as I can see the only party remotely interested in genuine immigration control AND countering the vile effects of Islam AND standing up long term for our majority population and culture is For Britain.
This is why it is denigrated by all and sundry.

That’s why those of us who oppose mass immigration and are honest and open about the impact of importing hostile religions and ideologies, or who understand climate alarmism, or object to the trans madness, are not going to get positive press coverage. Our only option then is to work from the ground up.”

    File on 4
The multi-billion pound AASC contract is the Government’s ten-year blueprint for how those seeking asylum in the UK are treated while they await a yes or no for their refugee status.
After a year under the pressures of Covid , the contract has become mired in controversy.
Former army barracks which have been repurposed as temporary holding centres for those applying for asylum have experienced fires,

And he said he won’t deny he did, so I reckon I’m right
The BBC said you are harassing our DJ and sent the cops in to arrest
AB said its not harassment I am perfectly right to ask him if he initiated that blog post.
Then separately AB accused Vine of collecting a BBC payment to finance a funeral do .which was actually paid for by another org
So the licence payer should get the money back but never did .
That how the ITV PI whose friend came to spy on AB.

“Catcalling” (as you euphemistically describe it) doesn’t cease being in the category of “sexual harassment” just because there are other more “prosecutable” types of sexual harassment.

downplaying male victims of kiddie fiddlers and anal rapists.

      Huh?

Sure vast majority of perps are male weirdos…

They are not “weirdos” Stewart, they are just ‘normal’ every day blokes who consider constant sexual harassment as just a bit of harmless fun. The same attitudes that permeate through all the way from describing grabbing a girls arse as; “a cheeky pat on the bum” – to; “if she’s wearing a short skirt she’s asking for it…”.

That’s the whole point. Something you seem wilfully unable to understand.

      So here you go:

      ___

      StewGreen, FEBRUARY 26, 2017,

Sexism : Anyone catch the ITV 7:30 show about sexism ?
They had a woman dress up in skin tight leggings and walk around London for a day
..And thus they got a narrative :
‘Look men are horrible, they call out at poor women’

But that is a FALSE narrative , cos she wasn’t “just a woman”.
..No she was a Looker ..and that is quite different…

So her being #1 a Looker and #2 dressing in skin tight jogging pants was likely to provoke

      ___

You then go on to compare sexual harassment to people making fun of your hat.

@Maxi, No I pointed out that nutters shout out at people.
        – The nutter shouts at my hat
        – Then a woman comes past dressed in revealing clothes and he shouts at her too.
and you class that as ” sexual harassment”

Nutters shouting out at people is not in the same category as traumatic crime.

Yes I’ve been in lots of situations where people shout at me in the street, in foreign countries where foreigners are not common.
In Arab countries I’ve been shouted at cos some weird men thought I was a woman from a distance.

If you want to compare like with like then I can say I was sexually harrassed as a young man. I was no “looker” I can assure you. Even though in the instance I’m thinking of the woman was older, and I fancied her not one jot, I still took it as a compliment.

I’m sure that if it even happened to me then it must happen to most men when they are young. But this is how low the bar must be so that 97% can cross over. It does no favours to the women who are genuinely harrassed and in fear from some men.

Dutch listing magazine tweeting about tonight’s BBC 2 film
..which people in Holland can watch without having paid the BBC
“The boy who harnessed the wind”

“He studied the books and the guy got an idea to build a wind generator”
…sounds a bit weird, you don’t need an electrical stage to build a wind powered pump, it’s much more efficient to do it direct.
Set in 2002 , it seems like propaganda to me.
In the middle of the country there is a huge lake
I can’t imagine it ever dries up.
seems to me he built something that would charge mobile phones
and that the drought bit is highly spun

There is full scale anarchist Marxist rioting going on
in Bristol . And the BBC call it protesting !! BUT BBC
be completely committed and support your brothers
in Bristol. Maybe they will more than set fire to police vans,
smash police station windows and even maybe the so
called “KILL BILL ” riot , because that’s what it is ,will achieve
it’s aim. Then BBC you can talk about ,what a protest it was.

Surely any such assault on the police in Bristol should be described as a Massive Attack. bBbc being as Tricky as ever in their use of language.

Oh, and something about Portishead as well.

Strange ‘policing’ in Bristol – stand around and watch a statue being tossed in the dock, stand around and let people graffiti riot shields.

A little bit of early toughness would have avoided bigger problems later.

Time to get rid of Police Commissioners, box-ticking female senior officers, Common Purpose courses, College of Policing and the Association of Chief Police Officers. Bring back Peelian policing by helmeted constables in blue, led by those who have shown good service throughout the ranks and who have earned respect.

Question : Are police commissioners any good ? Is the selection of recruitment broken ? What experienced ‘on the job ‘ training do they get ?

Why are the BBC stations on the telly the only ones that don’t have a +1 station? Silly me, they obviously can’t, otherwise people would watch the crap an hour later and not pay, coz it ain’t live. Then again most of the shite they do put out isn’t live either.

So Radio 3 drama have you got a nice traditional British tale for me tonight ?
Oh slavery drama, as plugged on the R4 Arts show the other night

As I said the wokists and the Times amplify the BBC, cos if the BBC do 10% of progs with a black theme
they will end up making up 30% of the photos in the TV guide.

Today the black actor from that drama, a black footballer, and two black characters from the BBC2 movie

This rioting by anarchists in Bristol is worrying . Especially
if the BBC take their side . Which they are very capable of
    doing.
