    A word of warning.

If/when you join The Reform Party online and pay over the £25, look carefully at the email receipt you receive. You will have agreed clandestinely, to pay over £25 EVERY YEAR on the anniversary of the joining date. Naturally, you may be happy with this ‘blank cheque’ every year. Reform’s position?
Adding the term, “Annual Subscription” is the same as taking the money every year as they think you agree to. It is not. Like many, I have various year long memberships which I renew as I please every year.

The legal definition of dishonesty (the objective test held in Ivey v Genting Casino (UK) Ltd t/a Crockfords [2017] UKSC 67) is:

“The test for dishonesty to be applied by a jury, is now straightforward; firstly, they will consider, as part of their fact-finding duty, the defendant’s knowledge or belief as to what going on i.e. what made the defendant act as they did. They will then apply the standards of ordinary reasonable people to judge that behaviour.”

Admittedly, some juries had difficulty with the previous legal test for dishonesty (The Ghosh Test), but Lord Hughes in the Ivey case thought that,
“‘The principal objection to the second leg of the Ghosh test is that the less the defendant’s standards conform to what society in general expects, the less likely he is to be held criminally responsible for his behaviour’”
Probably accounts for a defendants standards not conforming “to what society in general expects'” So if you are an Albanian Gun-runner new to the UK you will be unaware of (and argue the point), that you had no idea of, ‘what society in general expects’. Get out of Jail free card………………..
Nice to see the Supreme Court making exceptions for foreigners.
    Just Saying.

Useful of you to point that out. A couple of years ago I went through all my subscriptions, such as they are, and made sure they don’t automatically renew. It takes an extra few minutes each year to renew, or not, a subscription but having control is worth it.

    R4 – re nurses eating patients leftovers……

Here’s one ..while living in the States. New York area a friend was a male nurse at a major hospital which amongst other things looked after advanced aids patients.

The top layer of his fridge at home was particularly well stocked with variety of sandwiches with a variety of fillings.

He explained it was practice among some nursing staff to take possession of these from the recently deceased!

Imagine your last glimpse was a hairy hand lifting your corned beef sandwich!!

A few years ago now, a relative had over £100 taken from a wallet in a bedside drawer at a hospital in Sussex. Patients were being taken for some sort of scan even around midnight, which provided a good opportunity … for someone. There was some party going on in the distance (nurses, not patients) by the sound of it, as reported to me, and the scent of perfume. Older people might be in a more confused state late at night, especially if carted off for a scan.

The hospital was very unhelpful when the matter was raised and the money was never returned. Too much in that wallet, of course, but it’s the principle that counts. I wonder how many others had money stolen from them?

It is pretty easy to make money by PRETENDING to be stopping harm to the planet, whilst actually harming the planet.

eg a Scottish onshore windfarm involves cutting down forests, building access roads across peat bogs , and dropping concrete into the peatbog for foundations, thus releasing a load of stored CO2
Simultaneously you caused massive CO2 emissions with the manufacture of concrete and steel windfarm components, and transport CO2 too.

The gas power plant doesn’t actually get closed it has to sot their idling so it can kick in when the wind stops.
But in the process it is not running flat out so not running efficiently in terms of CO2.

Theoretically in 7 or 10 years time you’ll have used less gas so claim CO2 reduction of more than the construction CO2.
but by that time you’ll have more windfarns under construction so UK CO2 will have increased.

Also the taxpayer might be paying you huge grants to cutdown American forest and ship it to Drax, where it is burnt less efficiently than coal or gas, so both more CO2 and air pollution have been omitted.
Again in about 10 years time the new saplings planted in America might just have absorbed more CO2 than you emitted now from burning their predecessors.

Not quite the BBC but very revealing about the BBC of the 1950s and, possibly, today.

I have recently watched a film about Morecambe and Wise. It is available on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JmuaxvsX_M . Eric in particular had quite a ‘pushy’ Mother who among other things always told the young Eric to “trust his own material.” ie. gags, situations and scripts. Eventually as their joint careers progress, they are offered their first television show c/o the BBC in the 1950s.

The BBC impose on them a young BBC scriptwriter, Nigel, who ‘knows best’, knows how television works and insists on Eric and Ernie using his material. Quite how anyone, especially young Nigel, would know that about the brand new medium of television which was in its infancy demonstrates to perfection, the arrogance of the BBC. The mid-1950s TV debut for Eric and Ernie was a flop.

The arrogance of the BBC. Which we here have to put up with all the time.

    The film is recommended, btw.

Just the BBC/Leftist media doing everything they can to avoid telling us until the story is old news. As they have done many times now.

It’s all part and parcel of the stupendous agenda-based hypocrisy and double-standards of the Left. Lives only matter to them when they help the anti-white agenda. They don’t care one bit who dies.

So the Democrats losing the House is not news and anyway, it’s a victory for them because they aren’t losing by as much as the polls predicted ???.

But they might keep the Senate – so the media are concentrating all the reporting on that.

Sometimes I’m stunned by the bias of the media. How is it possible to have a democracy when the media – who are supposed to be the check-and-balance – are so partisan.

This is a taste of what globalism really means.

Armistice . Now history . 103 years ago . Yet we are the descendents of those men who fought for Blighty . I often feel sad on this day and wonder whether the sacrifice was worth it . Does the country honour what those ( boys ) went through and did ?
I worry that this ‘history ‘ – which I would argue is part of Britain’s’ fabric and identity – is ignored by the Far Left Education industry – and that applies to World War 2 as well.

For the likes of the BBC and the swamp ideas like patriotism and belief and duty seem alien – which I find sad . They’ve been replaced by shallow dross …

Even though we treated some countries poorly, they got railways, sanitation and parliamentary democracy. Otherwise any survivors would still be sitting on their hands living in mud huts and half the children dying during childbirth.

The BBC really doesn’t do irony . The Americans have come up with a new cure for some cancers . The beeboid said ‘you won’t be seeing this in the NHS yet ‘- without that irony – as the medical mafia fails to spot early cancers – fails to do physical checks on time but is probably pretty quick in telling cancer sufferers ‘there’s nothing to be done – it’s too late ‘….

So that’s cancer treatment – earlier there was a doctor who does ‘agency ‘ work to get the ‘market rate ‘. Medics are about money – always have been – the public put them on a pedestal as saints and angels ‘ when they are the equivalent of plumbers – but perhaps sometimes of less value …..

More and more people seem to see through what the bBC has become

Generic image of a male nurse on a hospital ward

NHS bosses are increasingly paying agency staff premium rates to plug holes in rotas, a BBC News investigation reveals. Spending in this area rose 20% last year to £3bn in England, according to our analysis of published data and responses to freedom of information requests. Agency pay is capped at 55% above the rate of a regular employee but this was exceeded for nearly nine in every 10 doctor or dentists shifts, and four in 10 nursing shifts, last year. NHS managers are only allowed to do this to avert significant risks to patient safety.

One cancer doctor tells us bosses’ “desperation” meant he had been offered an “astonishing” £130 an hour. Separately, the Labour Party supplied data showing NHS trusts had paid nurses as much as £2,500 a shift. Figures from English trusts show some spent more than 11% of their staff budget on agency workers last year. Previous reports have also suggested big increases in spending on agency staff in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. One trust manager acknowledges it’s not the best use of public money but says he has no choice. Labour blames the government’s “failure to train enough doctors and nurses”. A government spokeswoman says there’s been exceptional pressure in the wake of the pandemic but a plan is being developed to ensure the health service has the staff it needs.
