    First.

Not watching the BBC sometimes leaves me blissfully unaware. The Daily Mail is stating after the havoc caused by storm Otto, there is now temperatures of minus 7 expected. Was there havoc? Here we had just enough wind to blow a few leaves out the garden and about 5 minutes of rain.

I am still worrying more about Grant Shapps and net zero. Could the BBC find out what qualifications Bill Gates holds in climatology that provides his expertise in advising the U.K. government on net zero. However the BBC’s agenda stops them even asking if the tweet was real.

OK our wind here isn’t storm force
The weather app says 15mph but staying in that l=range until it gets to 19mph tomorrow lunchtime
      Even by 4pm it’s still 16mph
The council have a rule that the market must close if the wind is 20mph
      Tuesday the peak is 10mph

I checked the radar and the stormfront during the night seems to be on the top Northwest part of Scotland
it could descend bit , maybe go through Edinburgh

    Silver medal.

We have had strong winds in the West Midlands but very little rain. Basically we’ve had weather but the alarmists will claim Global Warming if it gets naturally cold.

Over at TCW Defending Freedom Kathy Gyngell is urging everyone to give up their TV Licences as a protest about OFCOM and its censoring of Mark Steyn. I agree with that and I would add that to write to your MP and the D-G, Tim Davie, with a complaint about his recent LF scoff, noticed by more than one newspaper, but also about restoring ‘catch up’ iPlayer rights.

    PS: Well done, Debs!

and is at the airport with the 3 helicopters that make multiple flights each day to the wind farms
It takes them 20 mins to get there !
never mind the time they spend working from the helicopters (not that much cos usually they work off the boat)

It took guy 3 hours to get from the airport to the site to the turbine to the top of the turbine.
    The site has 165 turbines
The turbines emiot a massive amount of heat so there are huge radiators

    Usual left hypocrisy:

“When Theresa May quit as Prime Minister back in 2019 there was a swift and predictable response from Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

After paying tribute to May’s service to the country, she twisted the knife saying: ‘Given current circumstances, it also feels deeply wrong for another Tory to be installed in No 10 without a General Election.’

When May’s successor fell last summer, Sturgeon’s ‘tribute’ described Boris Johnson as a ‘disgrace to the office’, but still she couldn’t resist rattling the tin for another election: ‘One Prime Minister that we did not vote for replaced by yet another Prime Minister that we did not vote for and would not vote for given the chance.

‘For Scotland, the Westminster system doesn’t represent our best interests and that is why we don’t just need a change of Prime Minister . . . Scotland needs a permanent alternative to Westminster.’

By the time Liz Truss quit after 49 days in office, Sturgeon had got into her stride. ‘The interests of the Tory Party should concern no one right now. A General Election is now a democratic imperative.’

So what about a new Scottish Parliament election, now that the First Minister will be packing her bags next month, two years into the SNP’s fourth term? Not a word about it in Sturgeon’s tearful press conference last week.”

Oh joy . Our Justin has a wonderful chat with lord Henry dimbleby . You may recall that Henry is a ‘go to ‘foodie for the bbc .
Sir Henry has volunteered to use the huge wealth of the dimbleby clan to fund universal food for primary school kiddies in all London schools .

    Isn’t that scumptious?

Actually dimbleby isn’t paying – Londoners are – whether they like it or not . And I don’t like it .

Dimbleby is one of that breed of posh types infesting the public domain – Andrew plebgate Mitchell is the leader . They are wealthy and well connected and love spending poorer peoples’ money on their hobbies . And of course they are loved by the BBC .
The future ? Free everything for everyone ….except the bbc licence of course ..

I’ve been banned again from commenting or even ‘liking’ the comments of others on the Daily Telegraph. No idea why this ban has been imposed nor how long it will last. This is the second such ban inside a month. I might see if I can find out why the censors have imposed it and why they have banned me from even liking comments let alone posting them.
Slowly the noose is tightening around the neck of free speech . We see Ofcom shutting down Mark Steyn at GBN , no doubt threatening GBN owners with fines and loss of license to broadcast if he continued . Personally I had been expecting him to be removed from GBN for months and was very grateful to him for his fearless exposure of the vaccine scandal and police complicity in the Muslim rape gang scandal and much else of course.
Neil Oliver will be on Ofcom radar but his monologues , although highly critical of the ruling elite , are not as specific as Steyn’s were . Individual named members of the elite don’t have their crimes and misdemeanours shoved as far up them as Steyn regularly did. But Oliver does tread a fine line and often could be interpreted as urging outright rejection of entire corrupt political system which now masquerades as democracy. Something with which I increasingly agree. The piece on his show regarding the Ukrainian war was certainly a challenge to the elite narrative .
If he starts naming names he will suffer the same fate as Steyn. If so then GBN must ask if it is worth continuing, what is its Unique Selling Point? We have plenty of purveyors of the elite globalist party line . Most well to the left a few a bit closer to the centre but all of them inside the Globalist tent eg Portillo . What GBN gave us for a while was a challenge to one world globalism that was universally broadcast in the UK. It was bold, refreshing and sorely needed. We all wondered how long it would be before Ofcom started to reel it in on behalf of the elite. We have our answer .

Double – I disagree that the noose of free speech is slowly tightening . It’s fast – the next attack is the online censorship bill – which exploits the suicide of a teenager to increase regulation OFCOM style and worse .

The Neil Oliver stuff is nothing – just a sermon from a pulpit .

I think the purpose of GBNews is to build an acceptable brand so that the owners can make a profit when Murdock buys it .
The pretence that it is ‘different ‘ has now been exposed as a lie -with all those now ‘moving on ‘ from mark steyn damned for their loss of integrity – including Farage …. Who should have been the first one to walk away ….

      • Doublethinker says:

Fifty years ago it was a proud boast that we in our country could say whatever we pleased . We had no need of a constitutional right to free speech , our right was enshrined in common law. Since then our right has been continuously chipped away at. Hence slow strangulation. I agree the on line harm bill will result in curtailment of what little freedom that we have left.
I disagree about the original aims of GBN. I do think that it aimed to deliver news from a different perspective and it delivered on that aim . Steyn was the hardened tip most of the rest were padding to try to keep Ofcom happy. It hasn’t worked , the elite are very sensitive to having their narrative challenged and now GBN is losing its original USP.
Murdoch may well be interested in buying it but I don’t think that was why GBN was set up in the first place.

The police have made proper fools of themselves over the media cause celeb case of Nicola Bulley.

Walkers spot woman in river… mile from where she vanished (Mirror)

The media too have been wrong – targeting a couple of mystery chaps who happened to be nearby and finding a random glove near the riverside scene of the poor woman’s disappearance – but that mud won’t stick.

We’re told rubberneckers and armchair sleuths turned up (would an armchair sleuth bother to leave home – that’s surely a contradiction in terms? I think what the media was upset about was people talking out of turn on social media). Now the media could blame the public for the very fascination with the case that they – the media – had stoked and provoked.

The trouble with the police is that rather than function strictly by the book they chase public opinion and they think they can do this nowadays by bending over backwards to the fashionably politically correct.

In this case of a respectable middle class white woman’s disappearance they mistakenly impersonated – as they tend to do – many of comedy state of the nation TV sketch show Little Britain’s chav character, Vicky Pollard’s catchphrases: “…cos what ‘appened was, was… this whole thing happened what I don’t even know nuffin’ about… Oh my god, you’re so racist! (misogynist?) I SO can’t believe you just said that!! Yeah, but, no, but, yeah, but, no, but…”

If a middle aged bloke goes missing, firstly, it doesn’t garner much national interest. Secondly, if the police explain he had been a bit of a boozer and had health issues – there would be scant issue with that statement. What a patriachy we live in!

The bluest of blue Tories likewise buys into this malarkey: Suella: Police MUST treat violence aganist women as ‘national threat’ (Daily Express) faint echoes there of Boris Johnson’s bizarre outburst that Putin wouldn’t have invaded Ukraine if he hadn’t been such a misogynist – women, by the way, tend to be the swing voters – get it now?

Now this would be highlighted (headlined) as downright creepy were a chap to do it: Flirty Kate enjoys touching moment with her prince (Express) – you’ll have to check the photos – and see pages 2 & 3

Kate’s opera gloves steal BAFTAs show (Daily Mail) – love the opera gloves… Mr AsI hereby launches a campaign for us opera glove lovers to have the initials OG added to the LGBTIQA+ amalgam – it’s only right we get a fair crack of the whip – so to speak. Too much information?

There’s another institution that’s a fool to itself – ruining its former fine reputation by getting down and dirty dabbling in trendy politics…

BBC news concerns… Staff on the new BBC news channel… fear it will be short-lived and “crash and burn like Liz Truss” (Times) – oh dear me, there they were attempting to appear the balanced and unbiased news purveyors… and what did they do? They blew the gaff. They just couldn’t help themselves making that anti-Tory gag.

Anyone for a cup of the old chai?

As one might offer one’s droog in Nadsat – the Russian-influenced youth argot used by the teenage gang members in Anthony Burgess’s dystopian novel A Clockwork Orange.

If you do still enjoy a nice cuppa this one’s real horrorshow: Price of a cuppa: Sexual abuse on Kenyan tea farms revealed (BBC)

Proving perhaps what we might have guessed – these days, nothing is sacred.

TOADY Watch #1 – it is not that mild

The Meteorological Office is completely signed up now to “CO2 causes Global Warming and Climate Change” so they keep telling me that is mild and I expect that. This household’s gas use for heating is less than last week but is still at winter levels. Therefore it is not that mild. I think of past Februarys long ago (before AGW was invented) with some fondness and nostalgia when temperatures were really a spring-like 15 or 16°C, and sunny with it.

However, Sarah Keith-Lucas presents todays forecast where she deals vaguely (imprecisely!) with the half of the UK where the overwhelming bulk of the UK’s population live in 10 seconds but then spends the rest of the forecast’s three minutes of air time on mostly Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Quite useless for 60 million people but possibly quite useful for 10 million people.

Monday morning, the BBC local radio station has put out to 2 promo tweets about the item it had on promoting Green innovation Festival from the Green PR dept of Hull University
“The Festival of Green innovation is March 1st @_aurainnovation”

The 10am presenter decides to open by excited talk of the Hull wind turbine factory advertising for 300 new workers
Siemens Gamesa is made up of the German corp buying the assets of the bankrupt Spanish wind industry maker.
More wind turbine jobs in Hull, means more wind turbines, which means more costs on the grid compared to gas, means more costly electricity.

Only the blades are made in Britain, the towers and everything else are imported.

    Why today ?
You have to wade to the bottom of the article
“Originally intended as a resource for students,
the film has been made available online to mark World Day of Social Justice on 20 February.”

So the BBC item is part of PR for “World Day of Social Justice”

In the Daily Express I’ve just read that the police are saying it may take days to identify the body found in the river a mile downstream from where Nicola Bulley disappeared.

Is it really so difficult to identify a body where they have the name, lots of people who can confirm the identity and what must be a load of forensics such as dna, clothes and a complete body.
They must be able to say how long the body has been in the water and unless bodies are being dumped there regularly surely this one must be easy to identify.
If it’s been in for ages and is a skeleton then the family should be told immediately instead of keeping them from knowing.
Similarly, if it’s a child or a man, they should be told.

I just can’t see how it’s taking so long.
Maybe they’ve already told the family but if so I would expect that to have become public knowledge quite quickly.

No matter what, the police have been quite hopeless in this case. Good job a member of the public spotted the body (that’s what has been said) and the police response was that there was debris there which is why they missed it.
You would think debris would be more likely to snag the body than a clear smooth river bed and that they would concentrate on such places.

Probably a lot of red tape involved like asking the dead body what their personal pronouns are.

After all if you have a dead body how else could you possibly determine what their gender is?

After nearly 4 weeks binge watching I am now on the current series 26. Conclusion : all the police SIOs are bombastic, bullies, and downright ignorant. Strangely none of the pathology team at any time told them to f….. off. Nikki Alexander needed a good slap several series ago. Jack is almost unrecognisable with the weight he has put on, Nikki has aged and looks gaunt. The influx of diverse characters since Clarissa left made for disjointed viewing. The black eco pathologist Simone was the worst actress ever, over-acted in every scene, so was glad she was given the boot. Now we have a young Jewish lad who struggles with his religion, and a know-all data professor who was asked by Nikki to be her boss – WTF ???? and that’s before I get to the disney style story lines.

Definitely the Leo and Harry years were the best.

Fact-chucker Marianna’s article used the word ‘frenzy’ three times to describe unregulated commentary by the great unwashed. (A frenzy being by some order of magnitude more serious than e.g. a mostly peaceful riot.)

One sentence made me look up. He said “my remit wasn’t to search the reeds” (where the body was found about a mile from the bench).

Hang on, er, doesn’t searching a river mean above and below ? And hasn’t anyone else noticed that this is the time of year when there are no leaves or fresh vegetation growth about to give cover to a body, – all the undergrowth is either dead or dying, and even a cursory look in the riverside reeds and banking would have brought forth a result.

BBC More Or Less used to be truth seeking
but then BBC realised they could do weaponised factchecks against the Tories
This created a bit of a cult following on Twitter.

So in the last episode someone asked them to look at OECD figures that show UK nurses only are about average for the EU but ~20% less than in richer countries such as Ireland, Netherlands, Germany

The thing is the OECD first did some PPP adjustment Purchasing Power Parity (PPP)
ie they factor in the different buying power
So a nurse in Turkey might earn less , but the property costs way less ..so for stats you upgrade their salary

Interesting I’ve never seen this done for other jobs like MPs salaries .. I expect an adjusted measure would show the foreign MPs are paid more

So UK nurses first seem second in Europe €42,588 vs €46,829 in Germany
but then they adjust that down to Germ. €44.1K .. UK. €34.5K

However a couple of people on Twitter pointed out an unfairness; NHS pensions are very generous with the employers contribution being 20.6%
whereas in Europe & in the private sector it’s 5%

Bottomline If you are going to compare raw salaries that’s one thing
But if you are going to do adjustments then you have to factor in full costs and full benefits
So your annual benefit each year is your salary plus employer pension contributions
Your costs might be your annual nurse registration, which might be nothing cos it’s tax deductible
Then you should factor a British nurse retiring at 67 and a Turkish at 54 etc.

I can understand the need for employers to take care with diversity issues. The law is the law and there’s plenty of employment law covering discrimination etc. With the prospect of multiple expensive employment tribunal cases if they don’t address diversity issues, we all have to accept the need for understanding them. However, all NHS Trusts must have HR departments, diversity isn’t that complex, surely? HR managers should be capable of dealing with it I would have thought.

I think employment law is out of control and we really need to move to a hire and fire system.
I do know about employment law, my son does a few cases a year as an employer. Employment law and tribunals are a farce. The Unions act an advocate and funder for the employee. The Union people are stridently left wing and the Tribunals.tend to be favour the employee.

Most of the population have been conditioned to believe what they are told by the ‘authorities’ , government , MSM, ‘scientists’ etc. They are constantly subjected to the official line on vaccines, the climate emergency, Ukraine , mass migration, white privileged etc etc. They are subject to this brain washing day in day out. Unless they take a deal of trouble they get no other perspective , no debate, no alternate way to view events. In a flourishing robust democracy the media would hold the ‘ring’ and ensure that there was this robust debate and questioning but it gave up doing that in the eighties.
It’s no wonder that the vast majority of folks believe the official narratives and are therefore easily led down the path the elite wants.

From Uzay Bulut [Gatestone Institute, 20/2/2023]:

“The Newswashing of ISIS Bride Shamima Begum”

    “… … …

The BBC is another media outlet that seems to have an obsessive fascination for Begum, producing both a film and podcast series regarding the former ISIS member’s so-called journey to Syria. The broadcaster announced on July 11, 2022:

“The BBC has today announced a landmark documentary for BBC Two and BBC iPlayer and a 10-part audio series for Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds, on the story of Shamima Begum. The podcast comes from the team behind the multi award-winning I’m Not A Monster, the BBC’s most awarded podcast series.”

Instead of focusing on the genocidal crimes ISIS committed against its victims and interviewing the victims directly, the BBC’s series and documentary largely deal with a glossy portrait of why and how Begum joined ISIS and her subsequent life there.

BBC viewers forthrightly responded, according to The Daily Mail on February 8:

“‘Why are the BBC giving Shamima Begum more airtime?’: ‘Sickened’ viewers slam broadcaster for airing 90-minute documentary that ‘parades ISIS bride as a celebrity’ just weeks after it launched 10-part podcast ‘retracing her steps’.

“Viewers have vowed to cancel their television licenses as they slammed last night’s ‘sickening’ 90-minute Shamima Begum documentary on the BBC.”
