The headline is designed purely to show the BBC disapproval that’s all.

Erdoğan is guilty of three ‘crimes’ in the eyes of the BBC and the people they work for (in this instance, the Foreign Office):

Firstly, he is not a globalist. He believes in his own country, its people, its traditions and its values. Turkey is one of a handful of such civilisational states: countries with long, distinct independent histories, strong enough to resist the destructive trash values of globalism. Any such country – Russia, Iran, China – will draw the ire of the globalists and their shrills.

Secondly, he is a pragmatist. Turkey’s neighbour across the Black Sea is Russia, and any Turkish leader has to accommodate it. When it comes to sanctions, Erdoğan is not going to cut off his nose to spite his face.

Thirdly, Turkey controls access to the Black Sea through the Bosphorus Straits, via the international 1936 Montreal Convention. This restricts military use of the sea, and the 1982 Amendments allow Turkey to close the Straits altogether in time of war. This does not fit in with NATO and American military plans, which seek unrestricted access and the containment of the Russian navy.

The mass immigration into the UK is great say the BBC types ..

Therefore the mass migration of Indians into Africa such as Uganda under the British Raj was a Good Thing .
And ultimately , despite the horrors of the ships transporting them , the mass migration of West Africans to the West Indies is eventually a Good Thing .
Wise BBC , tell us what to think .

International news media happy to create fake news. The BBC is in there too of course.

Israel Folau is an Australian rugby player who expressed politically incorrect views on the gender issue which threatened his place in the Wallabies a couple of years ago. This was big news down under. I don’t know if it was covered much in the Northern hemisphere, but the International fake news media are all joined together in trying to make us believe that a crowd of over thirty thousand rugby fans were disgusted by his very presence on the field.
A splendid example of how the Leftard media works.

DOJ watchdog finds Comey violated policies with private memos about Trump

      https://www.politico.com/story/2019/08/29/doj-watchdog-finds-comey-violated-policies-with-private-memos-about-trump-1477698

The Justice Department decided not to prosecute former FBI Director James Comey for retaining memos about interactions with the Trump White House and for disclosing one such memo to the media, the agency’s internal watchdog said in a report released Thursday.

However, the withering new report from DOJ’s Office of Inspector General sharply criticizes Comey for violating FBI and Justice Department policies on handling information about sensitive law enforcement investigations. Notably, though, the document clears Comey of allegations that he leaked classified information.

        Reply to Fedup2 above

As I recall the ‘everybody is going to vote remain’ vibe was everywhere right down to Cameron saying he was going to vote ‘remain’ and that he would still be PM whatever happens (that went well).

Reason Brexit didn’t work as intended was that there was NO PLAN for it.

The Government, so convinced by MSM, polls, celebs and the Civil Service that remain would win by a landslide no one had even considered that remain would fail.

Hence the chaos we still have today as all the stuff the leavers thought would happen afterwards, didn’t.

No one in Government, present or future, really cares.

The drift back to the EU is slow but your 2030 estimate is about right and the ‘blob’ will get is own way again.

Jazz – thanks – 2030 is based on the premise that a re elected red Labour Party will use the fixed election after the next election as a sort of ‘referendum ‘ to rejoin ( if we ever left ) …

The assurances the ReichEU will give to the UK to rejoin will add to the huge pressure building up in the second half of the 2020s with a theme such as ‘ the ReichEU ‘ has improved since the brexit vote and the UK will get ‘special treatment ‘ and be treated ‘differently ‘….
          All lies of course

Plus the line about those who were stupid enough to vote brexit are mainly dead now – so it’s a ‘different country ‘ – with resident EU citizens who can vote in UK elections ….

Brexit is doomed … all part of the ‘plan’ …

I realise the far left is far less disciplined than the blue labour lot. … maybe they haven’t learnt the lesson that focus groups and polls don’t necessarily work out on polling day – or maybe they are as out of touch with tax payers as the blue labour lot are…

      Fedup,
I don’t expect that you can manage to read every post on the site but I know that you are interested in the RAF , so I recommend reading How the War was Won by Phillips Payson O’Brien which is a comprehensive look at how UK and USA used air and sea power to beat the Axis powers .
The author demonstrates that without allied supplies via Artic Convoys and the and the relentless bombing of German munitions production by the RAF and USAAF the Soviets couldn’t have resisted the German army even if they had sacrificed even more soldiers than the 12 to 15 million that they lost.
Japan was being steadily throttled by the US navy and the USAAF fire raids before the atom bombs were dropped obviating the need for a very bloody invasion. Early surrender also kept the Soviets out of Japan.
The book is full of tables , graphs and quotes from the Allied Grand Strategy makers and conclusively rebuts all the revisionist history that the Strategic Bombing Offensive was ineffective and a waste of resources.

        Double
Sadly I do read most posts – although I exclude ‘marky ‘ because of the age of the comments and the repetition – which does my head in …

… but since you raise the WW2 air war – you’ve given me the opportunity to review ‘big week’ (James Holland ) – when the combination of an ever strengthening RAF and US air force smashed Germany .

Although the book covers a lot of well known stuff – such as the evolution of the P51 and bomber tactics -it does highlight the huge advantage US pilots had over Germans – a lot of US pilots had 100s of hours learning to fly and then fights- whereas the Germans had fewer hours, planes and fuel . It’s amazing they lasted as long as they did.

The shortcomings of senior command ( with hindsite ) is often embarrassing – such as the slowness in realising the value of fighter escorts all the way too and from Germany – as well as target selection itself .

But the cost in crews and aircraft ? Perhaps it cost us – the UK – far too much …. The loss of all those high quality young men cost us dear . We are still paying the price ….

I’m onto The Cruel Sea now .. but will look at the book you suggest …..

I do wonder about the cost the US paid in the Pacific when it was all ‘resolved ‘ by 2 nuclear weapons …. I think it was a pity one wasn’t developed quick enough to drop on Berlin while hitler was there…

The statutory basis for the management of the Civil Service is set out in Part 1 of the Constitutional Reform and Governance Act 2010.

The Civil Service is an integral and key part of the government of the United Kingdom[footnote 1]. It supports the government of the day in developing and implementing its policies, and in delivering public services. Civil servants are accountable to ministers[footnote 2], who in turn are accountable to Parliament[footnote 3].

As a civil servant, you are appointed on merit on the basis of fair and open competition and are expected to carry out your role with dedication and a commitment to the Civil Service and its core values: integrity, honesty, objectivity and impartiality. In this code:

‘integrity’ is putting the obligations of public service above your own personal interests

‘honesty’ is being truthful and open

‘objectivity’ is basing your advice and decisions on rigorous analysis of the evidence

‘impartiality’ is acting solely according to the merits of the case and serving equally well governments of different political persuasions

So look at Ukraine’s problem. Ukrainian soldiers are not being instructed at Ukrainian bases on Ukrainian soil by Ukrainian officers. Nope. Ukrainian troops are being trained in the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, France and Italy. Would you be surprised to learn that each of those countries employ different methods for teaching everything from marksmanship, marching, unit maneuvers and personal hygiene? I am not suggesting that the respective NATO countries are doing a poor job of training the Ukrainian units under their care. However, once those Ukrainian troops return home and are deployed to the front lines it is highly likely that a unit trained in the United Kingdom will operate differently from a unit trained in France. In other words, lack of uniformity. That creates a command and control challenge.

Lack of uniformity also is a problem because of the variety of weapons issued to Ukrainian troops. Anti-tank weapons illustrates the dilemma. The photos below show a British NLAW and a U.S. Javelin missile. Both are designed to kill a tank, but the procedures a soldier must follow to fire a NLAW differs from a Javelin. The Javelin, for example, is equipped with an optic, the NLAW is not. I am not saying that a soldier cannot be trained to use both. Of course they can. But the reality is that these anti-tank weapons are being delivered to Ukrainian troops who have not had the opportunity to go through a training regimen to make them proficient in either or both.
      https://sonar21.com/the-importance-of-uniform-as-ukraine-contemplates-an-offensive/

We see the same discord when it comes to the tanks, vehicles and planes that have been or will be supplied to Ukraine. This diversity adds another level of complexity because of the various maintenance requirements for these systems. It means you need an ample supply of spare parts and, most importantly, trained technicians who know how to do the mechanical work maintain or repair the vehicle or aircraft.

      ………………..

“United in diversity”, the motto of the European Union, first came into use in 2000. It signifies how Europeans have come together, in the form of the EU, to work for peace and prosperity, while at the same time being enriched by the continent’s many different cultures, traditions and languages.

From the DT – the guardian and its’ high moral ground

    STARTS
When the Left-wing commentator Nick Cohen left The Observer in November on “health grounds”, his bosses praised his “brilliant” and “incisive” journalism as they wished him the best for his future.

What they did not mention was that Mr Cohen left the newspaper with a settlement following complaints of sexual harassment that spanned a period of 17 years.

Guardian News and Media (GNM), which owns The Observer and The Guardian, has now been accused of a cover-up after seven women claimed they were harassed by him both inside and outside the workplace.

Some of his alleged victims have accused GNM of failing to act on complaints they made to managers over a period of years.

For his part, Mr Cohen has claimed that his downfall was the result of a bitter internal row over transgender rights that has opened a schism at the centre of The Guardian.

The fallout from the Cohen affair has also prompted recriminations at the Financial Times (FT), where an investigation by a prominent journalist into the goings-on at The Guardian was spiked by the business newspaper’s editor.

If the civil snowflakes are allowed to only work on the issues they agree with then logically others should be able to do the same.
Would Firemen not put out fires on buildings if the owner or business was a UKIP voter.
Would surgeons only operate on lefties and leave those on the right to die.
Would soldiers only fight in wars which they thought were good ones, Falklands good, Ireland bad type of thing.
Would the police only harass and arrest those it disliked but allow those it agreed with to carry on….in fact, that’s already happening so disregard that.

Are the rest of us in the ‘normal’ world going to be allowed to only do work tasks we agree with.

“The negative perception of Muslims. An underlying, unfounded mistrust. A misinformed suspicion of people who follow Islam.

Now it’s our duty to counteract this perception of Muslims. (a perception problem is different to facing the truth) To those who say that there is a conflict of being loyal to Britain and a Muslim, you have to look no further than Mohamed Farah. Our national hero is a practising Muslim. The double gold medallist saw no conflict between crossing the finish line in the Union Flag and dropping to the ground in prayer.(was the flag submitting to Allah in this display of Patriotism?) In fact, he showed how seamlessly religion and patriotism can go together.

As one survey revealed (no reference given), 83% of Muslims said they were proud to be British, compared to 79% of Britons overall.”

But we have conflicting data …83% Muslims proud to be British verses 1% Muslims want Freedom of Speech/Press

“…BBC poll in 2015 found that 27% of British Muslims had quote ‘Some sympathy’ (27% or a third) for the people who went into the offices of Charlie Hebdo and killed the cartoonists, editors and journalists there. Channel 4 poll from last year (2015), found that only 1% of UK Muslims think that publications should have the right to publish the cartoons of Mohammed.”

Mike Graham has clashed with a Labour MP after she praised crowds who chanted “f**k the Tories” at a festival in Warrington.

In a tweet, MP for Warrington North Charlotte Nichols said: “Big chants of ‘f**k the Tories’ for Jamie Webster at NBHD Weekender and, I can’t lie, I absolutely LOVE to see it! Love you Warrington.”

Charlotte joined Mike Graham on his show to discuss why she praised the chants.

Mike said: “You as an elected representative and someone who has spoken out about the dangers of abuse online, shouldn’t be encouraging it!”

Mike “You’ve talked a lot in the past about the toxicity of social media
and how unfortunate things that are said on the internet can lead to problems in real life

The hugely fanfared shelves showing vegan muck were going to be the way forward for the supermarkets a couple of years ago, but somehow the stuff they chuck up there doesn’t seem quite as popular as they thought nowadays!

The hideously expensive price for such crap is an off-putter for a start, and to see such idiotic marketing campaign for ‘plant-burgers’ is just ridiculous!

I wonder how many food banks, (funded by normal citizens in these supermarkets), have vegan rubbish chucked in?

“As more and more people turn to plant-based food”

Hardly. Oatly, Nestle, Innocent Drinks and Heck Sausages have all cut their ranges due to insufficient demand, sales in the UK have stagnated, whilst the share price of some manufacturers and suppliers has plummeted. This article was published less than two weeks ago (trigger warning: it’s The Guardian).

As above, Ian – you’re better informed than me because you read something in the grauniad, and I hope you’ve recovered by now!

The vegan shelves in out Tesco are hidden by all sorts of stuff normal citizens hardly ever stock up with, like weedkiller and shoe polish…
