In January 1940, the British government introduced food rationing. The scheme was designed to ensure fair shares for all at a time of national shortage.

The Ministry of Food was responsible for overseeing rationing. Every man, woman and child was given a ration book with coupons. These were required before rationed goods could be purchased.

Basic foodstuffs such as sugar, meat, fats, bacon and cheese were directly rationed by an allowance of coupons. Housewives had to register with particular retailers.

A number of other items, such as tinned goods, dried fruit, cereals and biscuits, were rationed using a points system. The number of points allocated changed according to availability and consumer demand. Priority allowances of milk and eggs were given to those most in need, including children and expectant mothers.

As shortages increased, long queues became commonplace. It was common for someone to reach the front of a long queue, only to find out that the item they had been waiting for had just run out.

Not all foods were rationed. Fruit and vegetables were never rationed but were often in short supply, especially tomatoes, onions and fruit shipped from overseas. The government encouraged people to grow vegetables in their own gardens and allotments. Many public parks were also used for this purpose. The scheme became better known as ‘Dig For Victory’.

Why are the Tories thinking about reducing or scrapping inheritance tax.
The people it would affect are highly likely to be Tory voters anyway so they will not really gain voters.

Better idea would be to reduce income tax or vat which affects everyone including middle floating voters. These voters may well vote Tory if vat/income tax goes down.

    • Thoughtful says:

You cannot reduce income tax when government spending is so high and inflation too. All it will do is increase the defecit government borrowing and push inflation even higher, it’s a stupid idea.
Far better if the Socialist followed Margaret Thatchers example and reduced government spending, tax cuts come a few years down the line when the economy is in order.

If the Tories really want to be re-elected, and I have some doubts about whether they do, then they need to reduce the importance of thge human rights act, and leave the asylum treaty, that would be an enormously popular move with the voters.

A new improved legal case against the BBC lead Trusted News Initiative (TNI). The defendants moved for a change of venue from Texas to New York on May 12. Unable to object to the move, the plaintiffs voluntarily withdrew the case from the New York court. So due to positive developments at Twitter and with new information, the Democrat presidential candidate, Bobby Kennedy Jnr and the CHD have now filed the case in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, Monroe Division, which now alleges that members of the BBC lead Trusted News Initiative (TNI) violated antitrust laws and the U.S. Constitution when they collectively colluded with tech giants to censor online news. The case is now before U.S. District Judge Terry Doughty. This now includes three other cases. (1) A case against President Biden, Dr. Anthony Fauci and other top administration officials and federal agencies. The suit alleges the defendants “waged a systematic, concerted campaign” to compel the nation’s three largest social media companies to censor constitutionally protected speech. (2) Missouri v. Biden alleging the Biden administration colluded with Twitter, Meta (Facebook’s parent company), Youtube, Instagram and LinkedIn to censor certain viewpoints under the guise of preventing the circulation of “misinformation” or “disinformation.” (3) Hines et al v. Stamos against the organizations and individuals behind the Election Integrity Partnership and the Virality project, alleging they colluded with government actors to monitor and censor speech on social media in violation of the First Amendment rights of millions of Americans: https://childrenshealthdefense.org/defender/chd-lawsuit-media-louisiana

Also some horrendous news, censored by the BBC, about the origins of Covid-19, that will be revealed by these four cases: https://rumble.com/v2ncp8w-dr-david-e.-martin-phd-covid-summit-european-union-parliament-may-2023.html

Alice Oseman: Heartstopper series two ‘will be a little bit darker’
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-65798044

How on Earth is this BBC front-page headline news ?.

“I’m really excited there’s going to be asexual and aromantic representation with Isaac,” Oseman said.

‘The writer, 28, identifies as aromantic and asexual herself.’

    and (of course):

‘Charlie, played by Joe Locke (right), forms a friendship-turned-romance with Nick (Kit Connor)’

It’s a lengthy article for such a trivial topic, I found this near the end when I bothered to read it:

“It just goes to show that everyone wants to read about queer joy for whatever reason.”

    Not everyone dear.

I have absolutely no idea what all that means. But the BBC can never resist giving some minority group extra-special representation and column inches (at the publics expense).

And no surprise at all that it is brought to you by another quota employee who knows nothing about nothing:

The modern day fabric of life: living with the, “Advanced” technology and Communications”. I include in that span, what to do when the ‘technology goes wrong’ i.e. contacting a manufacturer or agent or techie. It is now virtually impossible to talk to a human being and it takes hours to search for a solution that fits. Those automatically offered, human free, rarely suit the circumstances. All by design.

All, but all, a designed distraction. While the punter is devoted to putting some item of technology right or querying something about it (and spending hours at it), he/she/it is not doing something humanly constructive.

Advancement? If you have to spend hours on seeking solution’s, there has been no technological advancement in my opinion.

What we all do know in reality, is that the technology is far from what its cracked up to be and fails often. A fitting epitaph for the coming war with China when that start arises as a result of ‘Technological’ system failures.

Now, one does recognise that our older and somewhat less commercial broadcaster has made some pretty duff recruitment decisions in the past about which stars to hire and which to fire – but given the fact that Eamonn Holmes has warned us how in his experience the entire This Morning crew of management and presenters are “FAF” (the first two letters in that acronym standing for Fake As, and the third (four letter) word employing two of the same letters as used in the first) Mr AsI is sticking his neck out here and guessing that our Holly’s PR team have put out this sudden tale of BBC interest in gifting her a job simply to bolster their client’s negotiating position with ITV – which is probably a tad rocky at the moment. There may be no mud sticking to her directly in any legal sense – but as Nicola Sturgeon has found to her cost as her besties in the SNP came under scandalous scrutiny – as the Scots might say – Yer jaiket’s oan an awful shoogly peg Holly

A group of Ugandan children is on the verge of glory after reaching the final of hit UK talent show Britain’s Got Talent, where they have won over the judges and the public with their dazzling dance moves and bubbly personalities… Some 30 children currently share a five-bedroom house in Kampala (BBC)

That’s six to a room – which compares with: Asylum seekers camped on street outside hotel… About 40 asylum seekers were offered space in a Pimlico hotel, but refused to enter after being asked to sleep “four people per room” (BBC)

But we’re straying into politics – let’s get back to the light entertainment – or Variety as they used to call it. In fact here’s a thought… perhaps that so very very much over-employed term Diversity should take a day off and be changed to Variety.

    Variety is our strength

We’ll go ahead and exchange the V-word for the all D-words coming up in these up-coming entertainment reports – capital V

Swimming now has a wave of Variety to drown out Little Mermaid protests… Disney might be fiction, but our youth of today look up to the characters as role models so who Disney represent and how they represent them is real. That means the repercussions of racism and abuse towards Disney characters can be damaging and impactful as racism towards people… As a gay man and a person of colour, I faced horrible stereotyping but new film is helping pave a different way (Guardian) – grown man – albeit a gay one – loves his children’s cartoon characters, eh?

I’m afraid to say Foghorn Leghorn was a favourite of mine – that’s probably racist (?)

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Does Cinematic Variety Right… The Little Mermaid was a dull exercise in box-checking. Spider-Verse uses its diverse cast as an opportunity for narrative delights. (Reason – free minds and free markets)

(The Art Newspaper)

That’s the state of modern entertainment and apparently higher culture – all carefully pre-planned and programmed for us plebs to enjoy

There is a popular film called “white men can’t jump” and apparently its been remade in the sensetive non racist year of 2023.

(maybe no need to pop over the garden walls when the benefit police arrive)

I’m making a film called “Black men can’t do Mastermind ”

David Lammy is not returning my calls.

In the interests of balance, I’m making TWO films, one called “Black men can do expenses” and a sequel called “Black men do take Soros money”. As I believe in race-blind casting, I’m thinking of asking Leonardo di Crapio to play the lead character.

Something tells me that the Tory Government may be getting tough on immigration (General Election looming ?).
Do you remember their pledge of 2015…https://www.gov.uk/government/news/prime-minister-pledges-to-control-and-reduce-immigration

Quiet news day – usual blue labour lies about ‘cutting taxes ‘ …but a feature in the DT about the rise in motorists getting points on their licence and fines with FPNs ?( I thanks the gods of roads for having not been caught yet )

Anyway – it seems that the ‘threshold / wiggle room’ for getting a speeding ticket has been dropped a bit – in the Met anyway – so a 20 MPH limit with a wiggle of 5 PMH is now down to maybe 23MPH.
As one who has been driving / riding a very long time and take it very very seriously I consider speed limits ‘advisory ‘ at most times unless there is a camera ….

So this wiggle room thing should be Big News ? Unless it’s just filler on a nice sunny day ….

So much bluster, so much money wasted . Is the inquiry going to be a cover up ?
Compare Sweden with the UK .
