BBC don’t state size of pack when comparing toilet tissue, or whether the rolls are two ply or three ply and how many sheets they contain. The tinned tuna is likewise not specified as to size (weight) or whether in brine or Sunflower oil. Cheese is not specified as to type and weight. Bread differs greatly in price as to which bread you buy, the size of loaf, and type of bread. Type of breads vary greatly between countries, especially Germany, with their schwarzbröt together with the shop you buy it in. I know there are things called ‘artisan bakeries’ in the UK where you might spend a huge amount buying a loaf.
This article is not worth a candle, and a candle that has already been burned down to a stub. I guess the BBC wanted to ‘big up’ the EU and were desperate to do so! It appears that the BBC did not originate the research for this article and it was done by Circana.
A degree of separation in case the BBC are criticised?
BBC News Channel, Monday 15 December 2018
In a report about African Penguins and why their numbers are in decline we said conservationists say their natural habitats are being hit by rising tides caused by climate change. While studies show climate change is having an impact on penguin numbers, it is because of rising sea temperatures affecting fish stocks, rather than rising sea levels. Other factors include commercial fishing practices, which are making it more difficult for African Penguins to find enough to eat and survive. We apologise for the error.
If small species of fish and invertebrates, living in the sea, find one location too ‘warm’ or too ‘cold’ (actually, short in suitable food for them to eat, i.e. plankton), they move to wherever their food source is currently plentiful. They do this seasonally anyway, moving vast distances if necessary to follow the food supply, and relocate en masse during el nino years for this reason. Seasonal migrations following plankton blooms are what the vast shoals of billions of sardines, anchovies and the like migrating thousands of miles along the off shore currents are all about.
Larger (predatory) species, including penguins, tuna, sharks, dolphins etc… follow the smaller shoaling fish, which are their food source. Penguins are reported to swim huge distances to get from their nesting grounds to wherever the shoals they feed on have currently relocated, and it’s still unclear how they can pinpoint them from so far away with such accuracy.
Marine species are better adapted to coping with climate change than most land ones due to their great mobility (and have been coping with it for far longer than humans have been around). One of the most amazing things about marine species is their ability to cope with such wide ranging conditions and temperatures – a necessity for living in such a changeable environment.
Overfishing is a problem though… you can blame booming human population growth in some regions, and the Chinese factory fleets sweeping the oceans clear of life for that.
The BBC make up stories to fit their agendas, they don’t do science, fact, or logic (especially if it might go against one of their agendas).
MM, sea temperatures are generally pretty cold. There are a lot of deep undersea volcanic vents where some sea creatures gather for warmth. Why don’t other creatures join them? Because due to pressures at those depths the sea temperature drops off very quickly the further you are from the vent.
Oceans do differ in their temperatures, the southern oceans (ie. Pacific) where the bulk of the world penguin population live, is known as a cold ocean. There are penguins off the South African coast but go any further east than due south and you are in a mix of Indian Ocean (warmer) and Pacific Ocean (coldish) waters.
Even in the English Channel if you go overboard from a boat, your life expectancy is about 30 minutes due to the cold.
Yes that BBC article looks like it came from a Labour sudent newspaper
It’s total gaslighting and not based in the real world
Top comment “It is amazing the UK did so well considering they excluded UK discount supermarkets and UK loyalty card discounts.
But included discount supermarkets in other countries.”
That might explain why their prices are much much higher than I pay
eg They write sugar is £1.39 a kilo
yet Aldi charge £1.05 (Tesco & Sainsbury’s price match that)
I know supermarkets where it’s less that £1
I actually paid 50p for 1Kg 2 weeks ago
but I know how to shop
2 shops had half price Guinness yesterday 68p a can
Stew, you are correct. It is very sloppy journalism done by a third party so that when the complaints roll in the BBC can say ‘nothing to do with us’. For example, the ‘bread’ is not specified but the UK price is. £1.22. Is that for a white loaf? 400gm white loaf? 800gm white loaf? If I recall correctly Aldi and Lidl do 800gm white loaves for 75 to 80p. My preference is for something more chewy and I only pay £1.15 for wholemeal at 800gm size yet the price shown is £1.22. Is that an average price across all types and sizes of loaves? We are not told.
eromgiw – “reminds me of the Personnel departments of old, who looked out for the interests of employees. They evolved into HR departments looking out for the interests of management, protecting them from belligerent employees.”
There’s a clue in the name ‘human resources’ isn’t there.
Not unrelated – the DHSS evolved into the DSS, which then evolved into the DWP. Thus losing both health and social security along the way. A rose by any other name…
If you’d travelled across the world to pursue a better life, would you move back in return for money?
Germany is betting that the answer is yes.
The country has long offered migrants and asylum seekers financial incentives to leave its shores, and until 28 February 2018 it’s prepared to pay out extra.
Individuals will get €1,000 and families up to €3,000 (£2,650; $3,540) to cover rent or resettlement costs back in their home countries – things like basic kitchen or bathroom facilities.
Critics say Angela Merkel’s government is trying to bribe its way out of a tricky situation, but supporters say the scheme will help sad, exhausted migrants who just want to go home.
Germany is by no means first to this approach. So where else has done it – and is it morally wrong?

I see the French gov are as feeble as our lot: “Government spokesperson Olivier Véran responded this morning, saying answers would “be given when we have them”. But he added: “I don’t understand why some people are playing a sick game of explanations.”

6 O’Clock BBC main news. Not a word on the great Ukrainian counter offensive. I wonder why🤔. Wonder if Zelensky has been scrubbed off the honours list😂
Stop living the Cold war. This is a proxy war instigated by the US neocons, UK, EU and NATO. You don’t appear to know much about the murderous assault on the ethnic Russians in the Donbas who were Ukranian citizens after the 2014 coup. Do some historical research.
According to the three memoranda,[6] Russia, the US and the UK confirmed their recognition of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine becoming parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of
Nuclear Weapons and effectively abandoning their nuclear arsenal to Russia, and that they agreed to the following:
Respect the signatory’s independence and sovereignty in the existing borders.[7]
Refrain from the threat or the use of force against the signatory.
Refrain from economic coercion designed to subordinate to their own interest the exercise by the signatory of the rights inherent in its sovereignty and thus to secure advantages of any kind.
Seek immediate Security Council action to provide assistance to the signatory if they “should become a victim of an act of aggression or an object of a threat of aggression in which nuclear weapons are used”.
Refrain from the use of nuclear arms against the signatory.
Consult with one another if questions arise regarding those commitments.[8][9]
prohibited the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom and the United States from threatening or using military force or economic coercion against Ukraine
Fear, fear, fear! Warning, we are in for a Thunderstorm!
As if we have never had a thunderstorm before.
We could even have lightening . What can I say ?
Watching the antics of the greens, unions, diversity groups such as LGBT etc. and even our police force it seems to me there is a common purpose and that is to wrest control from the Conservatives.
I believe these groups are acting in a coordinated and joined up way to bring as much chaos as possible to the government to try to undermine and smash their following and all this to install a Marxist government that once installed will be virtually impossible to unseat again.
Thereby lies future bloody civil war. The USA is leading the way towards this by gradually replacing democracy and law with witch trials carried out by lying Marxist zealots in their legal and law enforcement systems.
The UK need to wake up to what is happening before it starts to take prisoners and unperson critics here as well.

In an intensely personal and often surprising film for BBC Two, Alastair Campbell candidly talks about his experience living with depression and explores if radical new treatments can make a difference.
Alastair is best known for his role as Tony Blair’s formidable and often contentious spin doctor, but, away from the public eye, he has been dogged by crippling bouts of depression for most of his life. Some days, just getting out of bed is too hard. Therapy and anti-depressant medication is helping him keep his head above water, but is that really the best he can hope for?
Encouraged by his family, Alastair sets out on a journey to explore if cutting edge science can offer him – and the millions of people like him – the hope of one day living depression-free. As he tries to understand his depression better, he also reflects on key events in his life and asks if they could have had a negative effect on his mind.

Seasonal migrations following plankton blooms are what the vast shoals of billions of sardines, anchovies and the like migrating thousands of miles along the off shore currents are all about.
https://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/largest-migration-planet/26922/#:~:text=Every%20winter%2C%20billions%20of%20sardines,great%20herds%20of%20the%20Serengeti.
Larger (predatory) species, including penguins, tuna, sharks, dolphins etc… follow the smaller shoaling fish, which are their food source. Penguins are reported to swim huge distances to get from their nesting grounds to wherever the shoals they feed on have currently relocated, and it’s still unclear how they can pinpoint them from so far away with such accuracy.
https://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/the-world-of-penguins-deep-divers/1916/#:~:text=While%20most%20species%20appear%20to,than%2040%20miles%20per%20day.

“It is amazing the UK did so well considering they excluded UK discount supermarkets and UK loyalty card discounts.
2 shops had half price Guinness yesterday 68p a can
Half price Guiness and you can still write?
I haven’t opened any of the 23 cans yet
🙂 x 10!
Supermarkets are undercutting pubs . That’s why they are all closing down. The end of a national and unique treasure .
Anything starting with OF- is to be treated with derision.

eromgiw – “reminds me of the Personnel departments of old, who looked out for the interests of employees.
“Germany wants EU to adopt ‘Rwanda-style’ migrant programme” . Well I never ?

Interesting hierarchy of bias . Red labour realises when they take power there won’t be £28 billion lieing around to waste on green crap – total bill £280 billion …. In 10 years.
The hierarchy ? BBC – green crap trumps every thing – Caroline cat lady mucus gets a free ride over saving the planet – no challenge ….
Thr hideous Eddy what’s his name demanding the £280 billion borrowed money be spent on green crap . Maybe Red labour will be the one to put the BBC in a box and bury it … who knows …. ? It’s as likely as the current lame duck rabble ..

Actor Joseph Fiennes is playing Gareth Southgate in a play called Dear England at the National Theatre. Of course the BBC loves Gareth so the article is a puff piece for the production, which sounds to me like the biggest waste of time since Arthur Smith’s An Evening With Gary Lineker.

Lots of talk in the article about a toxic masculine environment, social conscience and of course, racism. In other words the things that actors, playwrights and the BBC always talk about.
Speaking of racism, we never did get to see Joseph Fiennes as Michael Jackson, did we?
I see that President Rashid Sanook will fulfill his election promise to half the ‘immigrant’ numbers by simply waving half of them through.
It’s so easy isn’t it.
Why did none of the others think of that.
Next, he can promise to get more prison space available in our overcrowded prisons.
Yes, you’ve guessed, he will let half the prisoners out.
It’s easy once you start.
Chuck half the patients out of hospitals and you then have thousands of beds available.
De-criminalise lots of crimes and the crime rate goes right down. (I think they are doing this already)
My suggestion for our immigration policy, simple, it’s a government favourite…net zero.

6.30 BBC1 weather forecast and we saw a neon orange weather map, and yes London tomorrow they are predicting 86 degrees in proper money. Whether it reaches it is anyone’s guess. Most of the temperatures on the map were more like 25 which means a pleasantly warm day. At least Tomas had the decency to admit this was nothing unusual.
However I am in London and the local news is leading with how we have to protect ourselves against the steaming hot weather.

Dickie,
Would you like to see the Ukrainians kick the invaders out ?
