Do you notice how the BBC has a number of personalities ? For instance – it is critical of football supporters travelling to European Championship games – lots of air miles – yet on the other side it wants globalisation – the end of nation states and the 1984 world of superstates such as the Reich EU.

It really has this thing about what is ‘approved ‘ and what is not …

Sorry to be pedantic Stew, but that quote is from ‘Animal Farm’ – Orwell’s other famous novel, the one about the Russian Revolution and Communism, not ‘1984’.

“The creatures outside (the window, looking in at a feast whilst they were starving outside in the cold) looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.”

Which, for some inexplicable reason, always brings Emily Thornberry to my mind.

Well worth a second read, especially if you liked ‘1984’… and as we head towards another Labour Government.

What are the vaccines supposed to do? If they shorten the time we spend feeding poorly, by how much? Surely that research should have been done by now? If the vaccines reduce the severity of the disease, it again would be nice to know how much. Fewer people anyway are needed to be admitted to hospital, but as many cases are caught in hospital, it would be good to know how much it reduces our chance for going into hospital. Mr D and I recently had Covid but as it was 6 months since the spring booster campaign and before the autumn one, the vaccine wouldn’t have given us much help anyway.

GB news recently got in trouble with ofcom for not giving both sides of the story, bbc obviously had to report it

Today bbc refers to a report
World shift to clean energy is unstoppable, IEA report says

But not both sides of the story, just the reports says, so must be true then?

There is an Ofcom technical rule there
They divide the world up into politicians from political parties
        and normal people.

So yes progs can have 2 Climate alarmist PR people or 2 GreenEnergy enthusiasts on unopposed.

But Tice is the Reform party leader .. so an unbalanced prog is like a POLITICAL advert for Reform Party.
.. so that breaks Ofcom rules

Had the presenter been Farage it would have been OK .. cos he has retired from active POLITICAL party roles.

Of course viewers are not stupid and know what to expect .. so do they need Ofcom to police in that way ?

    Toady again

The other day I said here that the ‘tone ‘ the BBC was now adopting – after being caught telling lies over the cause of the Islamic attack on a hospital – was becoming more ‘considered’ even’ responsible ‘

Forget that – on Toady Meesh and comrade Robinson reverted to Hamas good – Israel bad …. Playing big on an old lady so kindly released by Hamas – but then juxtaposed with an Israeli spokesman tweeting Hamas can’t expect humanitarian treatment after what they did ….. mark regev- I think ….

I find it pretty revolting to listen to – but I am doing out of duty because this one – this horror – might weaken the BBC – please .

A few morning thoughts on the news today.

Maureen Lippman is moaning about other lefite luvvies who signed the pro Palestinian letter, which I have to say I find highly amusing.

The hypocrisy of this awful woman is jaw dropping! Not only did she entirely forget the lessons of pastor Neimoller she was one of the “they” who came for the others, taking an active role in persecution and finger pointing at others whose views she opposed.

Many of us have views which differ from each other, some people actively seek to persecute and make the lives of their opposition worse – Lippman was one of those people, and she saw nothing wrong in doing that, in fact she believed she had a moral duty to do so.

She was a hokey cokey member of the Labour party – in out in out depending on whether she was getting her own selfish way, and had promised to leave the UK if Brexit happened which of course was a lie.

So now the biter has been bitten and she is the one affected by her own lunatic liberal Left wing views and she is not happy about it.
I find it all very amusing. Not the Israel Palestine of course, but the way an infantile screaming luvvie has learned absolutely nothing and probably never will until it’s too late.

They fail to see or accept that Islamic fundamentalism isn’t just a threat to their liberal ‘no blame ‘ way of life – but to their physical existence ….

… it seems a fair few of those slaughtered by Islamic Hamas were pacifist types – ready to ‘accommodate ‘ but now they are no longer .
Lipman has one of those voices people listen to – unfortunately …meanwhile useful idiots such a s Corbyn and his friends continue with the scheming add pro Islamic Hamas propaganda …

Surprised Labour’s Naz Shah isn’t out & about demanding Hamas critics ‘shut their mouths’ for the good of diversity.

Labour MP Naz Shah has defended her appearance at a pro-Palestine demonstration in Bradford, where antisemitic remarks were blared through a megaphone.

During the rally, which took place in May, an activist chanted to a crowd in Arabic: “God, make us part of the mujahideen in Palestine.

“God, purify al-Aqsa from impure people.

“God, make the earthquake under their feet.

“God, lift the curse of the Jews off the Muslims in Palestine.”

The remarks were met with enthusiasm and approval from demonstrators draped in Palestinian flags in the crowd.

In a post on her Twitter page, the Shadow Minister for Community Cohesion explained that she does not speak Arabic and wasn’t aware at the time of the antisemitic remarks being made.

Adding to the above my own thoughts, that Bidens corrupt administation will start a conflict in the Middle East which they can keep running as long as they please, and when it kicks off they will suspend voting in America with the excuse of there being a war in progress.

Bedford MP stopped from boarding flight ‘because name is Mohammad’
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-67204679

Not stopped BBC. Delayed. He was allowed to board.

‘Mohammad Yasin, Labour MP for Bedford, was travelling with a group of MPs as part of a parliamentary delegation last week and said it was “humiliating”.’.

I wonder how many of that ‘delegation’ were Labour going to Canada to have a look at ‘how it should be done’.

‘He said he was questioned at Heathrow Airport check-in by Air Canada officials and asked if he was carrying a knife or other offensive weapon.’

Therein lies a clue to why he was questioned. Perhaps if other with his name did not commit such a vastly disporportionate number of terrorist killings, he would not have been chosen.

Labour MP Clive Betts, raising a point of order in the House of Commons, said the “racist and Islamophobic” treatment of his colleague Mr Yasin was “completely unacceptable”.

What Clive seems to be ignoring is that it had nothing to do with us or our government at all. It was Air Canada officials. Why is he making statements like that in OUR Parliament ?. Except maybe he is just another far-Left activist who loves to call other people racists like they all do.

A quick search for Clive found he signed this:

Protecting civilians in Gaza and Israel
    https://edm.parliament.uk/early-day-motion/61430

This motion basically says ‘We condemn the massacre (they have to say that) but then Israel should be forced to stop what they are doing in Gaza.’

It’s effectively 100% against Israel with some generalisations thrown in to try and hide it.

All the sponsors are Labour. Almost all the people who have signed it are Labour and SNP.

God help us all if they win at the next election. We will join Canada (which is where they were going which to cause all this) with the cancer of the Left destroying our country.

Unfortunately, sometimes people are treated differently because of their names. For example, a girl or young woman with a name such as Mary, Susan, Jane, Helen or Tracey is far more likely to find herself a victim of rape or sexual assault if she lives in a town such as Rotherham, Halifax, Oldham or Burnley. Plus there will no MP, councillor, social worker or police officer to speak up for her.

I just ran a check to see if his Twitter accounts and UK Muslim group accounts use the word “Jihad” often
as if it is a normal everyday word
They seem to almost never use it , one occasional exception being when it is someone’s name.
So it is not an everyday soft word
They seem to avoid tweeting it cos they know it means “war” to most people,

The MCB account used it once 5 years ago when it tweeted a review of the book written by its founder
I’d like to commend you for trying to reclaim the word (jihad).’

The guy has left the MCB now
His book is called “A Long Jihad: MY Quest for the Middle Way ”

My guess is that the deradicalisation workers don’t want to ban the word

Am I correct in thinking that there is a law which says hate speak is anything which offends anybody, even those who are not being talked (shouted at) to.
For example, if you called somebody a bum boy then he could report you for a hate crime but so could anybody else who heard it.
There are so many ways the left can get themselves feeling offended so why can the police not use this law when mobs are chanting jihad. I bet there are lots offended and rightly so.

Not even mentioned on the front page !!!.

The BBC are applying as much pressure as they can to force Israel to stop their war – whilst Hamas are still firing rockets at them !.

The BBC need a serious reality check as to who the bad guys are in this. They are sticking to their far-Left agenda with such stubborness now, they have become a national embarassment.

Unless I missed it the status of investigation into Jon Donnison
seems side-lined. He, of the misreporting on the hospital bombing.
The investigation must surely include how he was managed by his bBC handlers i.e what instruction did he receive on how to position the blame and by whom..

He and his management group should surely be questioned in public.

Separately, when your hairdresser poses an opinion that we are being seeded with a future islamic army you do begin to wonder.
And how long will it take before that 3.5 million is double.
    Worrying times.
anyone that tells you that can be integrated into British values is seriously pulling your *lonker.

Why are Muhammad/Mohammed/Mohammad rising up the rankings?
We do not have a definitive answer for why the variations of the name Muhammad have generally risen up the rankings over time, but there are some possible explanations.

      1. The increasing size of the Muslim community in England and Wales
The number of people identifying as Muslim on the Census for England and Wales increased from 1.5 million (3% of the population) in 2001 to 2.7 million people (5% of the population) in 2011.

      2. The dominance of the name in the Muslim community combined with increased diversity in names for baby boys
Between 1996 and 2015 there was a 66% increase in the number of different names given to baby boys, from 16,817 different names to 27,870 different names.

But in the Muslim community the name Muhammad or one of its variations is very dominant as it is traditional to name baby boys after the prophet of Islam out of respect and honour for him.

The combination of these two things is likely to be part of the reason we have seen Muhammad/Mohammed/Mohammad rise up the rankings.

      3. The possible increased dominance of the name in the Muslim community
It is possible that an increasing number of Muslims living in England and Wales are naming their baby boys Muhammad/Mohammed/Mohammad.

This may be to remind them of their heritage as they grow up in a non-Muslim country.

      4. The possible effect of popular sporting figures with the names Muhammad and Mohamed
Muhammad Ali and Mohamed (Mo) Farah may have played a role in increasing the popularity of the name.

As the BBC are STILL leaving room for doubt who did the hospital attack, I am now convinced they have been briefed to not say directly that it wasn’t Israel. Even worse than that, they say that Hamas blame Israel first and then tell us how Israel deny it.

And the reason will certainly be so that they don’t anger the Arab countries who WANT to think Israel did it no matter what. While the BBC leaves doubt, they can stick to their belief and claim they might be right.

If the BBC says it was not Israel, they are basically calling the Arab states liars – and the BBC don’t want that at any cost. They want to be their friends. The Left don’t care one bit about truth or who dies. Only the agenda matters.

      News story
Surface water: The biggest flood risk of all
Speech by Sir James Bevan KCMG, Chief Executive, Environment Agency, CIWEM Surface Water Management Conference, 17 October 2018

      https://www.gov.uk/government/news/surface-water-the-biggest-flood-risk-of-all

      What surface water flooding is
I suspect that very few of you signed up to attend this conference on surface water management in order to find out what surface water flooding is. But I’m pretty sure that most the people outside this hall, the general public to whom this speech is also directed, won’t. So for them, surface water flooding is what happens when there is too much rain for the drains and the streets fill with water. This doesn’t sound that threatening. Gene Kelly danced through a minor surface water flood in Singing In The Rain. Who doesn’t love that?

Surface water flooding is a risk because people don’t know it is a risk. If you don’t live near a river or the sea, it’s not wholly unreasonable to think that you are not at risk of flooding. But reasonableness isn’t the point. Leon Trotsky once said: “you may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you”. Well, you may not be interested in surface water flooding, but it is interested in you. And people who don’t know they are at risk are less well prepared to cope when the risk materialises.

The Tube stops running as parts of it flood. The city starts to grind to a halt. Then the power goes out. It’s dark, and water starts coming into thousands of homes. It is inches not feet in most places. But in parts of the city it pours into basements, where it’s several feet deep, and people start to drown.

A smaller version did happen, in Hampstead in 1975 when in a localised thunderstorm it got more than three months of rain in three hours. Four of London’s main-line railway stations were flooded and closed

The 2007 summer floods were a wake up call for all of us. They left 13 people dead, 44,600 homes flooded and £3bn damage. The rescue effort was the biggest in peacetime Britain. That event led to the 2008 Pitt Review, which concluded that much of the flooding had arisen not from rivers over-topping but from surface water pouring off the land.

I wonder if anyone has cross referenced the flood areas with the recent massive developments of farm land being switched to monster housing estates. I call them Orange houses as they all seem to share the same orange brickwork.

They are tightly packed together, presumably to maximise profit on the cost of the farm land they replace plus there is little if any land on these estates left to soil, trees or grassland, presumably again as a profit builder.

Hence, nowhere for heavy rain to drain away naturally.

In my opinion there needs to be a national inquiry into this so that all future developments are forced by planning laws to consider and cater for flood plains and drainage properly.

It stands to reason that the more land surface you cover with concrete, bricks, tiles and tarmac, the more you are asking for flooding and often miles downstream from the areas that no longer allow rainwater to drain naturally.

As I browsed the Snope ‘fact check’ above, I saw this one:

‘Photo Shows Software Engineer Margaret Hamilton with Moon-Landing Code She Wrote?’
    https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/margaret-hamilton-moon-landing-code/?cb_rec=contentv1_placeholder

    Claim:
‘A photograph authentically shows pioneering software engineer Margaret Hamilton standing next to the code she wrote by hand that took humanity to the moon in 1969.’

And as expected, Snopes says it’s true.

It’s interesting to me because I instantly knew the claim was false. There is no way on Earth one person wrote all that code. Especially on such a big project with so many staff.

    So let me fact-check the self-appointed fact-checker:

Things immediately start to go wrong when the ‘fact-checked’ claim suddenly changes to:

‘Here, Margaret is shown standing beside listings of the software developed by her and the team she was in charge of, the LM [lunar module] and CM [command module] on-board flight software team.’

Right – that’s more like it. It’s the output of a team. But it’s a team SHE was in charge of – which means she was managing it.

In a software team like that, almost her entire job would have been managing timescales and progress with all the other teams on the project because there are so many departments depending on each other. Such people are always managers, not engineers. I would be extremely surprised if she wrote a single line of that code herself. In fact if she was that good, she would be a technical team leader inside the team, not wasting time managing it.

Good old Snopes. They would have got away with this one as well – except it’s very clear the ‘checker’ has no clue whatsoever about how software is developed. Luckily for her and Snopes, neither has the audience.

I heard the esteemed Frank Gardner on Radio Five Dead yesterday say that the Gaza Strip had an area of 320,000 square kilometres. It sounded a bit high to me. Turns out that the correct area is 365 square km, or 141 square miles.

I’ll cut him some slack, as we don’t really “get” metric measures in this country, they are an unwelcome import. But I do notice the BBC is very keen on them. They seem to use km on all the news broadcasts these days, even on quiz shows like University Challenge. Still, you’d think and “expert” like Frank would have a feeling that the tiny Gaza Strip would not be 320,000 sq km!

I am often amazed at just how utterly clueless lefties tend to be in the real world. They are a product of civilised society : they could not survive without everyone else dealing with all the day-to-day things which matter.

Which is one of the reasons so many of them live their whole lives in the education system.

I’ve been highly amused at the BBC reporters who got caught with an explosion in the background – they act like confused children.

Look at a map. The Gaza strip is only about 24-28 km long and about 16 km wide at its widest, and less than 8 km wide for most of its length (that’s about 18 miles by 5.5 miles, for those of you who can’t work in metric – really? It’s only been taught in schools here since 1971, and on Science and Engineering Degrees since at least the ’40s).

So small you could walk from the Northern border to the Southern in around 6 hours, and cross it on foot in under 2 hours, even if you were a slow walker… which is why the BBC’s claim that the inhabitants of the Northern part couldn’t evacuate to the Southern half within a 48 hour period was completely implausible.
