A couple of weeks ago I posted a link to a journalist who suggested that America went in to Iran because it was being used by China as a western front for advancement towards Europe. China does seem to be a problem. Giving away the Chagos islands to Mauritius with a large sum of money is only to China’s benefit. Agreeing to the new Chinese embassy with possible access to information from the City of London only feet away, destroying the European car industry by forcing electric cars on us but without the minerals needed to build the batteries opening up the car market to the Chinese. We have just had 2 men arrested for spying for the Chinese and don’t forget Barry Gardener’s half million pounds. The Chinese do seem to want to move west. Most of the examples are UK, I guess other European countries probably have similar interference.
And why did Starmer have a large smile on his face as he arrived in China. I could understand why The Donald might not have wanted to share plans regarding Iran with Starmer.

It looks as though the Labour government is going to fund the BBC from direct taxation and try to legally ‘protect’ the funding such that a future government of the right cannot remove it. I didn’t think that this ‘tying the hands ‘ of future governments was possible but I’m not surprised by any manipulation of the law these days.
I think that we on this site have long anticipated this and whilst it will keep the BBC alive I don’t think it will preserve its waning power and influence. There are so many alternative sources of news and information available that a single source, no matter how well funded , can command the audience that the BBC had up until twenty or even ten years ago.
Preserving the power of the BBC could only be done by banning or controlling the burgeoning You Tube podcasts sector and I doubt the power of governments to do this unless they are totalitarian and even the UK hasn’t reached that point yet.
So no matter what happens the BBC may continue to suck from the teat of the public purse but it’s influence will drain away to the point of irrelevance.
