I remember – as a teenager – reading both Huxley and Orwell – and being into science fiction – Asimov / Clarke because I was studying sciences .

The horror of our time is that Orwell is no longer fiction – and although he could not conceive of the internet – he was on the money with regard to the control of information / news – and the need for a ā€˜sub class ā€˜ – proles – can’t remember his term – who were happy in their bread and circuses – …. Now back to the footy …

        ā€œNudge Unitā€
The Behavioural Insights team, popularly known as the ā€˜Nudge Unit’, is playing a big role in helping the government formulate its response to coronavirus
        11 MAR 2020 | https://www.instituteforgovernment.org.uk/article/explainer/nudge-unit
        Jill Rutter

        What are nudges?
Nudges mean thinking harder about the way people approach decisions and using those insights to design policy. In 2010, the Institute for Government set out some of those approaches in its MINDSPACE report, which suggests that both the messenger and the message were important and that defaults mattered. It remains the Institute’s most downloaded report.

The approach depends a lot on experimentation, and the Nudge Unit has championed wider use of experiments in government.

Basically, didn’t 400 labour MPs all vote for the policies, that Starmer alone is getting the hate for.
But lets blame him for the country’s free fall and have a different pair of glasses in as leader, to continue the same downward spiral, without anyone noticing.

Well, I’ve just had a quick squint at the “England” versus Ghana game and it’s left me bemused…

I can see one bunch of sub-Saharan Africans playing in yellow shirts and another bunch playing in white shirts.

“England” have got a German manager, there are names in our line up like Konsa, Guehi, Bukayo Saka and Madueki. There are more dreadlocks on display than at a Bob Marley lookalike convention. How in the name of God is this an England side?

Sorry, call me an aged old gammon (and some will) but this ain’t for me.

Didn’t do England much good, having the vast pool of diversity to dip in to, plus cherry picking an international manager with supposed sophisticated continental nous.

Wondered where all our foreign aid went, at the expense of our indigenous British Citizens.

Perhaps they can pay it all back now, – they get enough already?

At least we raised a glass to some really good British footballers, Wright, Finney, Lofthouse, Mathews etc., last night! My part of the bill came to just over thirty quid. That’s five quid more than the twenty-five quid ceiling professional players were allowed back in the fifties…

It all gives a sort of tooth-grinding noise to the supporters’ chants, ‘Do you know how much we’ve spent’?*

      * Makes a change from Starmer is a w****r, I suppose, but this latest one is very apt with this pitiful ‘administration wasting all our taxes…

You can be sure that Burnham’s rise to power has been orchestrated by one or more senior Labour figures probably not currently in the Commons.

It’s curious how a bit of money and effective news management can work wonders. Few people outside the North of England would have heard of Burnham and quite honestly as Burnham wasn’t even an MP, he must have seemed a very unlikely candidate.

    Ah…oh…what?

    On the one hand…..

‘The BBC has announced 550 job cuts in news, nations and TV and radio content as part of its first stage in its plan to save Ā£500m across the corporation over the next two years.’

    On the other…

‘Starmer to force social media giants to prioritise BBC and other public service content’
‘Under plans to further restrict private media firms, news from public service broadcasters would be given priority to fight ā€œdisinformationā€.’

    and on another….

‘BBC News is to target international viewers as it seeks to make more money from its TV channel overseas.

Jonathan Munro, the interim chief executive of BBC News, said the broadcaster would prioritise international audiences as it sought to shore up its finances.’

So in summary…..the BBC, that guardian of truth and honest, integrity based reporting, is cutting news provision in Britain whilst the government is trying to force us to watch BBC News on Youtube and imbibe its messaging because it is so, so vital for Democracy compared to all that corrupt social media disinformation slop we prefer whilst the BBC is intent on sidelining the British and becoming the IBC…the International Broadcasting Corporation…paid for by us of course.

Let’s hope they do better than when they spent years screeching that Trump was a Russian agent and then …ooops….yeah, we got that wrong…..little bit of confirmation bias and massive dollop of TDS. And let’s not forget the illustrious Jon Sopel who denounced a US schoolboy as a racist extremist…and even when it was absolutely clear this was a lie still thought the boy deserved the abuse…..the boy being a Trump supporter of course. And so much other misinformation and disinformation that is put out there to discredit or silence right-wing[factual] narratives.

Everyone knows the REAL reason Brexit has not been as successful as it could have been is because the spiteful Left have been trying to sabotage it for this very reason.

The BBC want it back in discussion so Burnham has a justification to try and rejoin.

I was also just reading how his chief financial advisor is to be a black woman whose policies have been considered far too Corbynistic up until now.

It seems he is going to abandon all the election manifesto and proceed with his own far-Left agenda. This is EXACTLY what the mainstream media are for. The must prevent him doing that by exposing him and everything he does which the people did not vote for. He should pledge to stick to what they promised or call another election to give him a mandate. But he will do neither and the BBC will not even mention the subject.

And here we have the main reason democracy has failed in the UK. Most of the MSM are left-wing biased and so will give him an easy ride. Including the BBC. They no longer fill their vital role as a self-governing check-and-balance. The majority of people in that business now are left-wing activists.

Summer 1976: Universally regarded as the benchmark for hot British summers. It featured a severe drought and a staggering 15 consecutive days with temperatures peaking above 32°C. Across the Central England Temperature (CET) series, it remains one of the hottest summers on record. Temperatures peaked at 35.9°C at Cheltenham in early July.

Summer 1995: One of the warmest and driest summers on record. It featured a highly intense, prolonged heatwave in August, with the UK average maximum temperature hitting a historic high for that month.

Summer 1990: Featured a brief but incredibly intense heatwave. On August 3, Cheltenham reached 37.1°C, smashing a national temperature record that had stood since 1911.

Summer 1947: Famous for its incredibly warm and sunny August, often referred to by meteorologists and weather enthusiasts as a “forgotten gem” of the 20th century. It is highly ranked in the CET historical records.

ā€œYOU DEFAMED ME ON LIVE TV — NOW PAY THE PRICE!ā€ — Tommy Robinson Drops a Ā£50 MILLION Legal Bomb on BBC’s Question Time and Fiona Bruce After Explosive On-Air Ambush
    This wasn’t a disagreement.
This was war — broadcast live to millions.
Controversial British activist Tommy Robinson has reportedly filed a Ā£50 million lawsuit against the BBC’s Question Time and host Fiona Bruce, accusing them of ā€œvicious, calculated defamationā€ in what his legal team calls a ā€œcharacter assassinationā€ disguised as public debate.
    His lawyers aren’t holding back:
ā€œTHIS WASN’T JOURNALISM — IT WAS CHARACTER EXECUTION, BROADCAST TO THE ENTIRE NATION!ā€
Sources claim Tommy Robinson is prepared to drag everyone into court — producers, BBC executives, and every panelist who allegedly sat by while it unfolded.
ā€œThey tried to destroy me on national television — now they’ll answer for it in court.ā€
    One insider put it bluntly:
ā€œThey didn’t just cross a line — they bulldozed it.
And Tommy Robinson is about to bulldoze back.ā€
The lawsuit has sent shockwaves through Westminster and the media world, and insiders whisper this could be the case that rewrites the rules of British broadcasting forever.

Badenoch in Angry Confrontation With Bridget Phillipson After PMQs Barb

Bridget Phillipson and Liz Kendall confronted Kemi Badenoch after PMQs to complain about the Tory leader’s language in the session. Badenoch provided a blistering assessment of the Education Secretary as a ā€œspiteful class warriorā€ who is also incompetent. She also brought up Guido’s story from yesterday on what teachers think of Phillipson…

Liz Kendall allegedly complained about the language being ā€œoutrageous,ā€ to which Badenoch replied: ā€œI’m never going to stop talking about how spiteful you are.ā€

Phillipson said in response: ā€œThe public are going to find out who you really are.ā€ Badenoch’s personal poll ratings continue to go up…

UPDATE: At some point in the exchange Badenoch is meant to have said: ā€œI will never stop fighting you. You are destroying children’s lives.ā€

UPDATE II: Bridget Phillipson said: ā€œKemi lost her head at PMQs – and afterwards too. It’s not the first time. She’s compared me to a Gestapo officer. I wonder what it is about a working class woman driving record investment in state schools by ending private schools’ tax breaks that the Tories hate so much.ā€

Well. Kemi for once is correct, Liz Kendall is a spiteful, hate full, vindictive, lefty authoritarian who pretends to be an awfully nice person but fails miserably.

Has Kendall watched back any of her sneering, nasty despatch box appearances?

Or does she totally lack any self-awareness like her ministerial colleagues and soon to be ex-boss?

Labour have for years smeared and sneered about their opposite number, so to start crying when the exact same treatment is dished out is weapons-grade hypocrisy.

And Philipson is a disgusting wretch for stealing the aspirations and dreams of thousands of children for no other reason that to satisfy her own hatred of anyone who happens to try and improve their own lives. She will rot in a particularly painful hell for her actions.

Which bit of the public hates you, headteachers hate you, the teaching unions hate you does Philipson not get?

She is dumbing down our schools to the lowest common denominator, and in typical arrogant Labour fashion, thinks everyone should bow at her feet

She hasn’t dumbed down schools, we’re still following the same syllabus implemented in 2012-15 under Gove which is probably why the Unions hate her.

The only two things Phillipson has done in the last two years are adding tax to private school fees and withholding the Gender guidance which is her other brief.

If she wants to stop looking like a Gestapo Officer I would suggest replacing the Lego hair cut and catching some sun so she doesn’t have complexion of a corpse.

ā€œdriving record investment in state schoolsā€

Er, no. Cutting funding to state schools until they can no longer afford staffing levels which have existed for the last 40 years.

ā€œby ending private schools’ tax breaksā€

Er, no. They promised 6500 extra teachers and there are now 1900 fewer.

ā€œA working class womanā€. Hmm. Nepo-baby would be more accurate. The person she worked for was her mum. Never worked in the private sector.

    J
    27 minutes ago(Edited)
And it’s the introduction of a new tax, not the ending of a ā€˜break’. A tax that would have been illegal under the EU and is not done ANYWHERE ELSE (with the partial exception of New Zealand). A tax on a necessity, the provision of primary and secondary education, where the method of delivery is totally irrelevant. Overwhelmingly by not-for-profit entities. And often serving unmet needs that state provision has failed to cater to. With users who subsidise the public provision by paying taxes but not taking up a place they are entitled to.

By their evil non-logic, private dentistry should also have VAT levied, given it is also the private provision of a necessity.

Unbelievably evil and nasty spiteful morons.

During the 2024 Labour Party freebies controversy, Sky News reported that Phillipson had received a £14,000 gift from Lord Alli.

At the 2024 Labour Party Conference, Phillipson told ITN that she had accepted free Taylor Swift tickets, because “it was a hard one to turn down… one of my children was keen to go”.

After the treasury minister, James Murray, rejected calls to delay the introduction of VAT on private school fees in October 2024, Phillipson was criticised by multiple MPs after she posted on X “Our state schools need teachers more than private schools need embossed stationery. Our children need mental health support more than private schools need new pools. Our students need careers advice more than private schools need AstroTurf pitches.” Conservative MP Graham Stuart described her post as “malicious and spiteful”, and called for an apology. Opposition whip, Luke Evans, said the post “reeks of prejudice and propagates a class warā€ and shadow treasury minister, Nigel Huddleston, said of it “Parents who send their children to independent schools, who pay twice on their children’s education, deserve better than to be treated with contempt by their government’s education secretary.
