First Chagos, Now Bermuda. The Reparations Lobby Has Found its Method
A delegation representing fifteen Caribbean nations arrived in London this week with a demand that goes further than any reparations claim yet advanced. Caricom no longer wants only money. It wants territory. Turks and Caicos, Anguilla, Montserrat, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands and Bermuda are named in its new working document as holdings that must be surrendered as part of “structural economic decolonisation.”
Sir Hilary Beckles, who chairs the Caricom Reparations Commission, told the Telegraph that the Caribbean “remains the most colonised part of the world.” He called on the King to help “break the chains of imperial governance.” These are not the words of a man negotiating a settlement. They are the words of a man who believes British sovereignty itself is the crime still being committed.
This should concentrate minds, because the pattern is now familiar. An international grievance is framed as a legal wrong rather than a historical one. A precedent is sought through litigation rather than through parliament. Ministers express disagreement while conceding the underlying premise. The Chagos Islands deal follows exactly this logic: agreed eighteen months ago, still unratified, and stalled only because Washington objected, not because London refused. The African Union’s lawyers have said openly that they intend to replicate the strategy at the International Court of Justice. Turks and Caicos is not the Chagos Islands. It has a resident population, an economy, and a constitutional relationship with Britain that predates most member states of the United Nations. The demand to dissolve that relationship in the name of reparative justice deserves to be named for what it is: a demand for the dismantling of the country’s remaining overseas presence, one ruling at a time.
The parliamentary reception this claim received should trouble anyone who thought this argument confined to activist circles. The delegation’s case was put to MPs at an event hosted by the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Afrikan Reparations, chaired by the Labour backbencher Bell Ribeiro-Addy. The Church of England, meanwhile, has already pledged £100 million to atone for its historic investments. Institutions that ought to defend the settled record are instead financing and platforming its revision.
The case against paying reparations at all remains what it has always been. No living Briton enslaved anyone, and no living Caribbean citizen was enslaved. Colonial rule ended decades ago through a process of independence that both sides accepted as final. Turning historical wrong into perpetual financial and territorial liability, paid by people who did not commit it to people who did not suffer it, is not justice. It is a claim without an endpoint, because there is no sum, and evidently now no island, that would ever be declared sufficient. Beckles has already signalled as much. Once decolonisation is framed as unfinished business rather than a completed settlement, the demands can only grow.
Britain’s overseas territories are not spoils awaiting return. They are self-governing communities that have chosen, repeatedly and through referendum where asked, to remain British. Their residents are not bargaining chips in a reparations negotiation conducted over their heads by a commission in Barbados and an APPG in Westminster. If ministers wish to demonstrate they understand the stakes, they might start by saying so, plainly, rather than issuing the kind of careful non-answer that has preceded every previous concession.

Sorry to hear it as well. Happened to me at a college where the Principal was claiming it was a reorganisation of the business and as she was a trained lawyer was claiming I didn’t have to be paid redundancy. It was only after I asked her under what legislation she was doing it, that redundancy money was offered. I made damn sure that I told as many other staff as possible. I didn’t belong a union but it was useless in helping its members.

A man has been arrested over an alleged threat to shoot Reform UK leader Nigel Farage made in a social media post. The arrest relates to a post made on X which was reported to police on 8 May, a day after the local and mayoral elections.
The Met Police said a man in his 20s was arrested in south London on Tuesday this week on suspicion of sending threatening communications to a Member of Parliament.
He has been bailed pending further inquiries.

There was a time when I would have been able to name the whole England team. Even the FA cup finals I knew who my favourite players were (probably based on looks). Now I never watch the BBC or ITV, I suppose I did know there was a big match last night. But I simply didn’t care who won. Well I did really because I was pleased England lost. Could you imagine how the press and the BBC would have linked a win of the cup to a new start under Burnham?

All this ‘growth’ is only being paid for by Rachel’s evil taxes, it isn’t growth, it’s government spending/waste.
There is no real growth, it’s untrue for the bBC to claim this, but there again, no business or commercial experience isn’t a concern to any of their cubiclists.
Swapping Farmland for Concrete is not growth – it is self inflicted harm.
The figures refer to GDP (Gross Domestic Product), which is a supposed measure of total economic activity. This is any economic activity, regardless of merit or benefit. For instance, suppose 10,000 people illegally cross the Channel one month and are then placed in hotels at an average cost of £100 per person per night. So, the hospitality industry gets a boost of £30 million (10,000 x £100 x 30) for that month and we have growth and a boost to GDP! It really is as contrived, crude and meaningless as that. If GDP increased by, say, 1% in a year but the population increased by 2%, then everyone is actually worse off. And that’s not even factoring in the increased welfare, education, NHS costs etc which come out of the overall pot and reduce the overall quality of life in the country i.e. make us poorer.
So why do they obsess on GDP? Because borrowing relates to GDP: the bigger the GDP, the more money the government can borrow to pay for its various hair-brained schemes and to help meet the welfare, education, NHS costs etc of an ever-growing population. The banks and institutions are happy as they make more money and the government doesn’t give a toss as they don’t have to payback the money – you do, and so do your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. It’s basically a Ponzi scheme. They all know it, but none of them want to get off the gravy train.
