The BBC has upheld complaints about comedian Katherine Ryan linking an obscene term to Victoria Beckham on Have I Got News For You.
Viewers complained after Ms Ryan seemingly referred to the fashion designer as a c-word.
An internal investigation into the episode of the satirical show in November 2025 came after two viewers said the remark was ‘gratuitously offensive’.
On the programme, which was hosted by Ms Ryan, 43, the segment discussed David Beckham allegedly using the word in an email to his publicist where he expressed outrage at missing out on a knighthood in 2013 (he has since been knighted). He apparently referred to the honours committee as ‘a bunch of cs’.

STARTS The BBC has reported the deaths of 53 “journalists” in Gaza who have been claimed as terrorists by Hamas and other groups.
Some of them took part in the Oct 7 attacks and several have been hailed as “martyrs” by their terrorist organisations.
The majority of the reports describing them as journalists appeared on BBC Arabic, which The Telegraph exposed last year for widespread anti-Israeli bias.
The broadcaster promised at the time that it would instigate reforms of BBC Arabic to address the issues highlighted by The Telegraph. However, when Matt Brittin, the new director-general, started work in June, Lisa Nandy, the Culture Secretary, told him she still had concerns about it.
The BBC has told The Telegraph that it is now reviewing the inclusion of the militants in its coverage.
Many of the supposed journalists are pictured on social media dressed in military fatigues and holding weapons and, in some cases, wearing headbands associated with terrorist groups.
Rebecca Paul, the shadow culture secretary, said the latest disclosures were “part of a long-running problem with impartiality and accountability” at BBC Arabic. Danny Cohen, the former director of BBC television, said the BBC was still “failing in its duties of balance and accuracy when it comes to their reporting of Israel”.
When the conflict in Gaza began, BBC Arabic began publishing a list of journalists who had been killed, which it regularly updated and which remains on its website. More than 180 Palestinians are on the list, along with four Israelis.
Of the names on the BBC list, 53 have links to terrorist organisations. Ten of them have been described as journalists either on the English-language BBC News website or on BBC and BBC Arabic, with the remaining 43 appearing solely on BBC Arabic.
Twelve have been removed from a casualty list kept by the independent Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), a US-based organisation that defends the rights of journalists in combat zones and elsewhere. The CPJ, whose senior advisers include Dan Rather, a veteran news anchor, decided they were either “not journalists or media workers” or that they had “participated in combat”. Terrorist groups have also published obituaries of some of them.
They include Abdullah Darwish, who was described by BBC Arabic as “a cameraman for Al-Aqsa TV” but who was removed from the CPJ list after it emerged he had participated in the Oct 7 attacks as part of Hamas’s Al-Qassam Brigades and had been photographed wearing the distinctive green headband of Al-Qassam. He was killed in a targeted air strike in December 2023.
Yaqoub Al-Barsh, described by BBC Arabic as the executive director of Namaa radio, was also removed from the CPJ list after he was identified as a member of Hamas’s Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, which lists him on its “martyrs” page online.
Rizq Abu Shakian, a journalist for Palestine Now, according to the BBC, appeared in an online video wearing Hamas military fatigues and holding an automatic rifle.
A further 20 of the 53 names are listed as journalists by the BBC despite obituaries of them being published by terrorist organisations. They include Mohammed Al-Zaq, whose obituary was published by Palestinian Islamic Jihad; Mustafa Bakir, who was described by Hamas as a field commander in its Rafah Brigade; Abdullah Iyad Baris, described by Hamas as a “knight” in its Khan Yunis Brigade; and Ahmed Abu Sakheel, who was claimed as a “martyr” by Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
The remaining 21 “journalists” commemorated by the BBC feature in online posts carrying weapons and wearing military fatigues, including Ahmed Samir Muhammad Washah, who was pictured being trained to use a grenade launcher, and Amr Abu Odeh, who has been hailed as a hero of the Al-Qassam Brigades.
Mr Cohen said: “Once again, the BBC finds itself at the centre of a scandal of inaccuracy and anti-Israel bias. Given the BBC’s vast journalistic resources, this is simply not good enough.”
Ms Paul said: “The BBC’s failures on BBC Arabic are part of a long-running problem with impartiality and accountability. If the BBC wants to regain the public’s trust, it must stop giving undue credibility to anti-Semites and terrorists and apply the same rigorous standards to everyone.”
Last year, the BBC was accused of “pushing Hamas’s lies around the world” after an internal memo said BBC Arabic chose to “minimise Israeli suffering” in the war in Gaza so it could “paint Israel as the aggressor”.
It was accused of giving a platform to commentators who had made extreme anti-Semitic comments, including a man who, despite saying Jews should be burned “as Hitler did”, appeared as a guest on BBC Arabic 244 times in 18 months.
BBC Arabic was also accused of giving undue weight to Hamas statements and reproduced Hamas claims about the death toll in Gaza which are widely accepted to have been exaggerated for propaganda purposes.
Last year, BBC Two broadcast a documentary called Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone, which it later admitted was narrated by the son of a Hamas official. The broadcasting regulator Ofcom found that the film was “materially misleading” and ordered the BBC to broadcast a statement with its findings.
A BBC spokesman said: “This report was last updated in August 2025 and covers the deaths of journalists over the course of the conflict, in Gaza, Lebanon and Israel, regardless of their media outlet’s political affiliations. The story was based on the information available at the time it was published. In light of the CPJ’s June 2026 update, we are looking at those included in the piece.”ENDS
