THE AGE OF AUSTERITY

Well, the age of austerity beckons with all those £££billions of cuts and many of us will have to tighten our belts. Happily, this is not the case at the BBC where the good times just keep on a rollin’…

The BBC was accused of making a mockery of public sector spending cuts as it announced that three new executives would get pay packets vastly in excess of the Prime Minister’s salary.

The BBC said that Pat Younge, the new chief creative officer, who joined the broadcaster in January, would be paid a base salary of £310,000, more than double David Cameron’s £142,500 prime ministerial salary. The total remuneration package for Mr Younge, who is responsible for production of all the broadcaster’s television programmes, is worth £317,800.

Paul Gaskin, the new human resources director for BBC North, will be paid £190,000, with a total package worth £197,900.

Simon Lloyd — “director of marketing, communications and audiences for future media and technology” — is to be paid £160,000, with his overall remuneration worth £167,800.

Because they are worth it?

CUTS CRAZY BBC..

BBC been leading the charge against the “savage cuts” from the bad and evil Tory/Dems. I particularly enjoyed Alistair Darling being granted airtime to pronounce of the poor judgement of the Coalition, without even a hint of BBC irony….your favourite moment of the day from the Cuts crusaders?

FERGIE ON THE BEEB…

I know that Fergie is the gift that keeps on giving the enemies of the Royal Family plenty of material to denigrate them and true to form if you listen to this interview you can detect Naughtie desperately trying to get John O’Farrell to be more cutting than he actually could have been on the NOTW revelations. I don’t blame O’Farrell, his comments are measured but I do believe that you can detect the glee in Naughties voice? Thoughts?

BYRNING LOVE

Anyone catch Sarah Montague’s “interview” with former chief secretary to the Treasury Liam Byrne this morning? Could she have been any easier on him? I don’t think so. It appears that the BBC have gone along with Labour and consigned it’s thirteen years in power and attendant profligacy to the memory hole. It never happened. Why IS Osborne making Tory cuts?

DISHARMONY IN AFGHANISTAN?

Did you see the BBC doing everything possible to present an imagined split in the thinking of the our new Government  as regards Afghanistan? I suppose this is what we need to get used to as the BBC’s highly trained teams of experts parse every word, examine every motion of body language, to see if they can detect division between the Cons and Libs. Can’t recall the same enthusiasm for exploring splits when their pals in Labour were in power, can you?

SICK HUMOUR OR WISHFUL THINKING?

I see that the BBC has apologised “unreservedly” after a radio DJ joked during a live broadcast that the Queen had died.

Danny Kelly, 39, told BBC WM listeners he had an important announcement to make before saying: “Queen Elizabeth II has now died.” The DJ played the national anthem as he made the joke during his weekday afternoon slot on Monday, which is broadcast from the corporation’s Birmingham base to listeners across the West Midlands.
