THE AFRICAN QUEEN…

Did you catch Evan Davies glowing report of Hillary Clinton’s grand tour of Africa? I had to laugh when he declared that Obama is promoting good governance in Africa by stating that “Africa’s future is up to Africans.” Well, that should ensure that there is no good governance given the track record of the collective of thugs and tyrants that hold power across the dark continent! The guy being interviewed, Gibril Faal, did not appear to pick up on all the pro-Obama/Clinton vibes that Davies was giving off so the interview meandered nowhere really – a bit like democracy in Africa.

DANIEL IN THE LIARS DEN…

OK, stick with me on this one please.

BBC bias is often sophisticated and nowhere is there more obvious than on any discussion of State monoliths such as the NHS.

One of the few Conservatives that impress me is Daniel Hannan. He is courageous, independent-minded and best of all, an actual conservative. That’s why I am not that shocked to read that he has been rebuked by his party leadership for endorsing American criticisms of the National Health Service. Thou must not criticise the NHS is the 1st commandment of British politics. It doesn’t matter how useless it is, it doesn’t matter how many it kills through poor hygiene and sloppy standards, it doesn’t matter how many bureaucrats it piles onto the payroll each year, it doesn’t even matter that it offers shocking value to patients for the £££ billions it receives. All that matters is politicians control it – lots of votes in it, you see.

Hannan has broken the golden rule and so the BBC delights in putting up Andrew Lansley – that political giant – to slap down young Daniel. The easy consensus – between all the political elite and the likes of the BBC – is that the NHS is a good thing and those who criticise it are bad. In this way, the NHS gets away with being the National Death Service and grins all round.

There are plenty of us who have real doubts about the NHS, and there are some of us who would like to see it de-linked from political control. Of course that then creates a rather unfortunate template that the BBC does not like. We no more need a National Health Service than we do a National Broadcaster. They are both creations from another age, they are both anchored in socialism, and the sooner they both go the better. Such a view as that which I have just expressed brings convulsions to the BBC and is rarely given media time. And so when Daniel Hannan dares to go on…gulp..Fox News, and speaks honestly of the failures in the NHS, he is pilloried by the smug elite who then use the State Broadcaster to stick the knife in, surgically. In this way, the BBC acts in conjunction with the politicians to maintain the status quo even thought it is, literally, killing us.

WALKING ON THIN ICE

Here is a little more eco-wackery from our State Broadcaster – yes, one of the largest glaciers in Antarctica is thinning four times faster than it was 10 years ago, according to research seen by the BBC. When you think about it, the BBC channels Gore.

THE ENVY OF THE WORLD?

NHS worship is a central theme of the BBC, I guess one State monolith will always approve of another. But I wonder will the BBC be investigating why it is that almost €1.2bn has been spent on NHS bureaucrats in 07/08 – a doubling of expenditure since 2003? I suspect that unlike you and I, when the BBC sees this vast increase in funding they don’t feel angered at such financial profligacy, they feel jealous.

Update by Natalie Solent: Since it seemed silly to have two separate NHS posts on B-BBC on the same day, I have taken the liberty of adding this link to David’s post. It takes you to the blog National Death Service, which in turn links to a BBC story called “Bloggers debate British healthcare”. I’ve been posting to this site since 2002, and for bias I think that story comes in the top five.

THE RECESSION IS OVER – REJOICE!

It’s almost pitiful to watch the desperation of the BBC as it continues to seek out those illusive green shoots of recovery. Today, they have been located in France and Germany where we are now informed that they have “exited recession.” Not that long ago Gordon Brown assured us all that the UK was better placed than any other major economy to withstand the recession. Yet here we have other European economies seemingly moving out of economic stupor so I am sure we can expect the BBC to now challenge Brown and ask him to explain why we still languish in the doldrums with soaring unemployment. Then again…

The Keynsian fantasists that drive the UK economic policy are not only prolonging the recession here by their gross folly but also ensuring that this country will be an economic basket-case for years to come. But when one reads the BBC portrayal of events, one could be forgiven for thinking that Captain Brown has steadied the ship and with a bit more spending we will soon move into clear blue water.

Perhaps you read this quote from Brown speaking in 1996…

“I tell you we have learnt from past mistakes…. Just as you cannot spend
your way out of recession, you cannot, in a global economy, simply spend your
way through a recovery either…. losing control of public spending doesn’t help
the poor”

I wonder if the BBC will pursue the rather obvious problem this gives McDoom? Of course not. This is all about trying to construct a narrative that suggests we are moving into slow recovery mode and by the time of the GE next June we might do worse than stick with experienced Captain Brown rather than the novice Cameron. It won’t wash, of course, but they will give it a try. Then, once that fails and Labour is removed from power, the new narrative will be all about Tory cuts and protecting “the weakest” in our society. (Welfare parasites to you and me) The BBC never really changes colour – always red.

WHY HAVE PRISONS?

Last week, the government released Great Train robber Ronnie Biggs from prison on “compassionate” grounds. It now looks like the government is preparing to release the Lockerbie bomber, Al-Megrahi from prison on “compassionate” grounds so he can return to Libya and die there. I was wondering why we bother with prisons at all?

On the BBC this morning, Barnardos were in attack mode making claims about all the “children” that we send to prison. This has been allocated not one, not two, but THREE slots on Today so maximum PR for the left wing campaign group Barnardos. Meanwhile the BBC reports that Dame Anne Owers (a favourite) has claimed that illegal immigrants and foreign prisoners are failing to be removed from the UK because escort staff are “intimidating” them. Presumably these thuggish staff will need to be sent on sensitivity courses to learn how to be more respectful to convicts and illegal immigrants.

The recurring BBC meme is that prison does not work.

GOING DOWN THE PUB?

I suppose it is one of those “silly season” stories that all the media loves but it was given quite a positive hearing on the PM programme this evening and I had to stop and double check to hearing that I was really hearing the proposition that….pubs should be opened to children for lunch…. as a way of fighting the recession. Eddie Mair seemed quite taken by Prue Leith’s lunacy.
