I caught a trailer on Today this morning for the Jonathan Dimbleby hosted “Any Questions” programme on Radio 4 tonight and I noted that in it he made a reference to the Thatcher legacy including “golliwog”. It’s fascinating to consider the way in which the BBC covers the news that the Middlesex have re-branded their one day cricket team from “The Crusaders”to “The Panthers”. For some odd reason, there’s been a little bit of news management going on at the BBC. It’s not what they say, it’s what they leave out. Hat-tip to All Seeing Eye. I see that the BBC is giving great prominence to the “Binyam Mohamad is innocent” story, this time focusing on the Miliband/US angle. The bit that I find interesting is the line “Binyam Mohamed, an Ethiopian who lived in the UK, believes US papers detailing his treatment support his claims.” But hang on, that is not quite the full picture, is it? As Melanie points out it is the totalitarian mindset of BBC1 Controller Jay Hunt which is so deeply disturbing, they just cannot see how arrogant and prejudicial they really are! It’s rare for a week to go past without the BBC running an item somewhere suggesting that Britain should top locking criminals up.
