More Palin

Sorry to mine this again, but Frei’s contribution is possibly the best yet. As far as I can tell, his job is to make Webb look impartial.

As Frei says, it’s impossible to know where to start – so how about with the kids (that’s worked for us so far): “Her five children? Unusual names: Track – apparently named because his mother is a keen runner – Willow, Bristol, Piper and Trig – the Nordic word for strength.” Very dubious.

“Or should we dwell on the fact that the woman who might one day command the most powerful army in the world, run three wars and fix the economic engine of the planet has only been abroad twice in her 44 years of life?”

Hard to say, but we certainly don’t want to miss the cliche that the “US needs to figure out how comfortable it is with Mrs Palin being a heartbeat away from the Oval Office”. Nor forget the American stereotyping: “Then there is the fact that Sarah has been hunting… ever since she could walk. Add the fact that her husband Todd – known in Alaska as the “First Dude” – was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in 1986 and you get the picture… They are real, unvarnished Americans.”

The conclusion is obvious to all: “Once again, the Republicans are asking the world to suspend disbelief. They did it with Ronald Reagan and George W Bush. Why not do it with a 44-year-old governor of America’s second most distant state, a very modern woman with very conservative values? Does America want to go along for the ride? The world is watching, reaching for the Prozac and wondering what other historic surprises are in store for the 2008 election.” Genius.

Justin Webb is stupid. As has been said Palin is highly popular in Alaska. Why wouldn’t she be popular in other parts of the USA?

Now we’ve got shithead Frei still attacking the 17 year old girl and her boyfriend.

I reckon she will deliver a humdinger of a speech. Funny that I bet MORE Americans will watch her speech than the blown hard from Chicago that hangs out with convicted terrorists.

Do these people think we are stupid???

Unequivocally. Frei Boy’s little piece is just so indicative of the arrogance and contempt the Beeboids have. It’s the reason they created his low-budget propaganda puppet show called BBC World News America. They think we need to be told the “international” viewpoint of our own affairs. Not, mind you, that United Statesians need to be informed of world affairs, but that we need to be informed about our own affairs by them.

The same goes for Frei’s attitude towards anyone who may not share his opinions. If anyone in his UK audience thinks Palin is just the thing the Republicans needed, they are mere fools who need to be told The Right Story.

David Preiser: Yep. Also Americans like straight talking with no bollocks. And with both McCain and Palin they get two for the price of one.

With Obama and Biden all they get are two helium filled blow hards that talk a lot but say nothing of substance.

Both of them I predict will be found out once thy can’t pick patsy left wing journalists to thrown them home run balls for every question.

McCain’s strength is answering direct questions, Obama just looks for a tele prompter.

I suspect that Palin will be abl eto hold her own with Biden as well.

Oh what a shock That bird that can’t keep her tits in her dress has just told us that this is it for Palin.

So we get a clip of some American woman suggesting that Palin has shat on her kids by putting them in the limelight!!!!!!

How so? It’s the media that have done that. Her children have nothing to do with the election.

Does the media go around reporting every story about Obama’s children?

Even Dick Cheney’s daughter didn’t attract that much media attention.

If the media had any decency, in particular the scum at the BBC, you think they’d just leave her kids alone.

So are we saying that ANY woman that has young children couldn’t be President?

Well after listening and watching the BBC coverage of the convetion I actually sat down and watched a recording of last nights broadcast and have to say even I had a tear in my eye when they talked about the Seal guy who gave all for his country (the one who all the other seals pinned their seal pins on to his casket).

Had a good snigger at the digs from Laura Bush (thats real change you can hope for) and damn, I wish we had someone like Fred Thompson in Westminster!

I have to admit that the couple hours I watched were far FAR removed from the reports from the BBC.

And boy, how hard are the Republicans hammering away at the patriatism stance aye? Something Obama CANT do, not after his associations with Wright and his wifes gaffs about how she hadnt been proud of America until this year.

Of course you wouldnt even know about the patriatism theme if you watched the BBC.

BUT, the speaker I enjoyed the most was the guy who was a POW with McCain. Loved how he over stepped his 2 minute slot simply by making reference to all the veterans in the crowd πŸ™‚

I think the population of Alaska is about 700,000 Maitlis you dopey cow.

    Thank god for Tom Ridge.

And can someone please explain why (as the BBC claim) McCain has putting her on the ticket to attract female voters is wrong but selecting a VP from say a swing state to attract votes is OK?

Most VP’s are picked to try to get votes from somewhere!!! That’s how you get elected.

One of the points the BBC has been making – following the Washington Post lead, of course – is that team Mccain did not vet Palin, she was a desperate last-minute choice.

I happened to just find a reference in the Times on 13 August sayung she was on McCain’s short list, along with Fiorina.

The BBC is truly pathetic. Copycat journalism follow the Dems anywhere.

I like it. The bien pensant left in the UK slagging off the American Republican choice in a patronising way to their faces. That alone will provide a good boost to the McCain/Palin challenge. Look at what happened last time they tried to interfere – remember the Guardian’s ‘Operation Clarke County’ campaign and how spectacularly successful that was. Not.
Barack Obama (Columbia University, Harvard law School,Civil Rights Attourney, the Senate) is, despite his colourful family, an East-Coast elite liberal machine politician. Dont know how he got it (its expensive) but there’s no doubting what he’s got: pure Ivy-League education, left-wing academia then straight into politics. Its almost as if he was groomed for his role.
Sarah Palin on the other hand is a real person who has undeniably had a life. Mother to six kids, at least one of whom is a rebellious teenager, and has bid a son off to fight in a foreign war. Successful business career before entering politics, and could continue it after leaving politics – how many Labour MPs could you say that of?
Anyway, all this will resonate strongly with self-reliant, pioneering spirit small-town America and the more she is derided by the acknowledged left (the BBC, New York Times, etc) the better she will look to them.

JohnA: If you look back on this blog Palin has been mentioned NUMEROUS times as a possible VP pick. I think she was always there in particular if Hillary got the nom from the Dems.

There’s no secret that Lieberman was McCain’s first pick, but that was just never going to work with the conservative base.

The problem with the BBC is that their lack of research is a joke. This is supposed ot be the worlds greatest news broadcaster.

Did I mention last night that I happened to have dinner in July with a business man from Alaska, over for some golf in Ireland? A businessman, knew and had dealt officially with Palin. I asked him about her – he didn’t agree with her on various things, didn’t think she would be picked – but he did not mention a single character fault in about 15 minutes conversation. I emailed hi Friday after the announcement in his reply he again did not mention anything adverse.

He seemed a wise old guy, a retired banker and property developer, if there was any substance in what trhe media are suggesting he would have told me (he asks my technical advice on invstmentment in a VoIP firm, so he kinda owes me)

Okay, of course I had to switch over to the BBC propaganda show after Gov. Palin finished her speech. To my surprise, Matty and Katty and the hack from Time had to swallow their pride and admit she rocked the house, and that for rational people she will have dispelled any doubts.

Of course, Frei can’t help himself, and still tried to push the “shotgun wedding” (his words) meme. Even though we now know that she was in consideration for quite some time, and that McCain apparently saw a bit of himself in her at one point and made the decision, Frei Boy just can’t let go of it. She may not have been the first choice, but this was anything but the last-minute, desperate act the BBC has tried to tell us it was.

I wonder if Matty and Katty learned anything tonight about the average United Statesian? Probably came as a shock. They can’t relate to her or the people to whom she was speaking tonight. They can relate only to the elite Leftoid dreams and slickness of the Obamessiah. I await their next line of attack.

This is the only part of either convention I’ve watched, and I won’t watch tomorrow. As far as I’m concerned, McCain can step aside now and let Sarah Palin take over.

    Well, this is extraordinary.

Listening to the World Service in the US tonight/this morning. At first the on-air presenters seemed unable to find anything negative to say about the Palin speech, but finally they dug up some reactions from us voters and managed to find voters willing to say the speech was a disaster for all the current Democrat talking points reasons and then had the nerve to say, “Well, that’s not a scientific sample, but it’s *our* sample”. OK, that’s SOP.

Later came the extraordinary part when they took the strongest excerpts of the speech and mixed them as a medley with an R&B song which seemed to be called “I Am Superwoman”. I cannot imagine Saturday Night Live or The Daily Show doing a bit which is any more an obvious bit o mockery. (And it’s *their* job).

That would be because they (BBC and its leftist media ilk) thought that was a big downer.

They now realize Palin being a “heartbeat” away is actually a positive to many many voters (The BBC doesn’t get to vote in US elections.)

Sarah Palin has done 2 things

#1. Totally energized the Republican Party conservative activist base who had been glummly supporting McCain but no big enthusiasm, and no big commitment.

#2. Mesmerized an awful lot of Hillary voting women, and she will drag a fair chunk to the Rep ticket.
