THE ENVY OF THE WORLD?

NHS worship is a central theme of the BBC, I guess one State monolith will always approve of another. But I wonder will the BBC be investigating why it is that almost €1.2bn has been spent on NHS bureaucrats in 07/08 – a doubling of expenditure since 2003? I suspect that unlike you and I, when the BBC sees this vast increase in funding they don’t feel angered at such financial profligacy, they feel jealous.

Update by Natalie Solent: Since it seemed silly to have two separate NHS posts on B-BBC on the same day, I have taken the liberty of adding this link to David’s post. It takes you to the blog National Death Service, which in turn links to a BBC story called “Bloggers debate British healthcare”. I’ve been posting to this site since 2002, and for bias I think that story comes in the top five.

THE RECESSION IS OVER – REJOICE!

It’s almost pitiful to watch the desperation of the BBC as it continues to seek out those illusive green shoots of recovery. Today, they have been located in France and Germany where we are now informed that they have “exited recession.” Not that long ago Gordon Brown assured us all that the UK was better placed than any other major economy to withstand the recession. Yet here we have other European economies seemingly moving out of economic stupor so I am sure we can expect the BBC to now challenge Brown and ask him to explain why we still languish in the doldrums with soaring unemployment. Then again…

The Keynsian fantasists that drive the UK economic policy are not only prolonging the recession here by their gross folly but also ensuring that this country will be an economic basket-case for years to come. But when one reads the BBC portrayal of events, one could be forgiven for thinking that Captain Brown has steadied the ship and with a bit more spending we will soon move into clear blue water.

Perhaps you read this quote from Brown speaking in 1996…

“I tell you we have learnt from past mistakes…. Just as you cannot spend
your way out of recession, you cannot, in a global economy, simply spend your
way through a recovery either…. losing control of public spending doesn’t help
the poor”

I wonder if the BBC will pursue the rather obvious problem this gives McDoom? Of course not. This is all about trying to construct a narrative that suggests we are moving into slow recovery mode and by the time of the GE next June we might do worse than stick with experienced Captain Brown rather than the novice Cameron. It won’t wash, of course, but they will give it a try. Then, once that fails and Labour is removed from power, the new narrative will be all about Tory cuts and protecting “the weakest” in our society. (Welfare parasites to you and me) The BBC never really changes colour – always red.

WHY HAVE PRISONS?

Last week, the government released Great Train robber Ronnie Biggs from prison on “compassionate” grounds. It now looks like the government is preparing to release the Lockerbie bomber, Al-Megrahi from prison on “compassionate” grounds so he can return to Libya and die there. I was wondering why we bother with prisons at all?

On the BBC this morning, Barnardos were in attack mode making claims about all the “children” that we send to prison. This has been allocated not one, not two, but THREE slots on Today so maximum PR for the left wing campaign group Barnardos. Meanwhile the BBC reports that Dame Anne Owers (a favourite) has claimed that illegal immigrants and foreign prisoners are failing to be removed from the UK because escort staff are “intimidating” them. Presumably these thuggish staff will need to be sent on sensitivity courses to learn how to be more respectful to convicts and illegal immigrants.

The recurring BBC meme is that prison does not work.

GOING DOWN THE PUB?

I suppose it is one of those “silly season” stories that all the media loves but it was given quite a positive hearing on the PM programme this evening and I had to stop and double check to hearing that I was really hearing the proposition that….pubs should be opened to children for lunch…. as a way of fighting the recession. Eddie Mair seemed quite taken by Prue Leith’s lunacy.

MORE ECO-WACKERY

Do yourself a favour and have a read of this gloriously biased article on climate change by BBC journo Richard Black. Throughout the article is the assumption that there is NO DEBATE to be had on the merits of Kyoto and for that matter what follows it. For the BBC, the science is “settled” – Al Gore would be so proud of them. Just a pity we have to fund this drivel.

OBAMA SORTS IT OUT…

Have you read this piece of pro-Obama garbage churned out by our entirely neutral State Broadcaster? It’s been fun watching The One flounder on this topic as he tries to socialise healthcare but the BBC is determined to present him as master of all he surveys. Isn’t it also nice to read there were no “angry scenes” at the meeting. Nice touch BBC.

It’s All About No Oil …

Just giving the garage its summer clean and sort, when the following idiocy was aired on the PM program about ten minutes ago. They were discussing the Burmese sentence on the noble Aung San Suu Kyi.

I paraphrase :

“… and we’ve just had a mail come in on the subject of Burma, which says ‘Isn’t it a tragedy that Burma hasn’t got any oil ? Otherwise the resolutions would soon be passed and the invasion forces built up …'”

Now there are a lot of ignorant people in the UK, and this chap may not have heard, say, of a company called Burmah Oil, despite the fact that Denis Thatcher once decorated its board. Any idiot can mail the BBC.

But for the editor to consider this a serious point worth broadcasting – well, perhaps someone who is unaware that Burma is an oil and gas producer shouldn’t be in charge of what purports to be a current affairs program.

We all know why it was chosen, of course. It fits the BBC narrative. Why ruin a perfectly good anti-American sneer for the want of a few facts ?

SHUTTLE DIPLOMACY

Wonder can you help me this BBC report.

You see it concerns the Scottish badminton team who it seems now feel like “prisoners” in India because the English team has left that land. Why has the English team legged it from the World Championships being held there , you ask? Well, we have to do a little work to find out why! In paragraph three we learn off a “terrorist threat” – how interesting! But who might these terrorists be? (Perhaps those far-right extremists that so concern our Cohesion Minister Shalid Malik?) Well, if you scroll down to the very end of the article the curtain is lifted and we read that it is ……Muslim extremists. Just wondering why that could not have been inserted in the previous 14 paras? Ah well – we must always be sensitive when reporting on the Religion of Peace.
