    Difficult not to be cynical about Sky and the BBC.

    Sky news covering the dreadful war in Yemen without mentioning about it being muslim v muslim. Apparently it is all the UK’s fault as we sold weapons to the Saudis. Not a mention of who else sold weapons to the Saudis or to the other blood lusting parties. Just the UK’s fault.

    Anyways, there was the distressing sight of a bony young lad who was clearly starving. He was kept alive by the heroic medical teams brave enough to remain. The credulous reporter informed us, in hushed tones, how the family cannot afford to feed him and he has two emaciated brothers.

    There was then a shot of the mum feeding him spoonfuls of some grim fluid. Now the mum was wrapped up from head to toe in a black garb, with just enough of a slit to see out. Thus difficult to be sure, but the fingers of her hand were not emaciated. In fact they looked like those of the average 40 stone housewife from a trailer park in Texas. Fat. Thick.

    I need Sky to just up a gear when reporting.

    Its clear that events in Aleppo are pretty horrendous, BUT do we have evidence that other Western countries are doing as much hand wringing about the situation as the UK ? considering the size of this country compared to other European countries, we are led to believe by the media that only the UK can do anything about it ! I don’t mean to be flippant if I say are countries like say Iceland / Canada / Scandinavia as pro-active media wise as we are ? and why do we think we can cure the ills of the world ? our military is in melt down so what possible use could we be anyway ?

      It amazes me, all the w@nkers in parliament (Boris Johnson included) who are getting so worked up about what has happened in Syria and that somehow “we” should have stopped it.

      Don’t these folk learn anything from our past involvement in the Middle East? Everywhere British troops are sent to “help”, eventually those who are being “helped” end up blowing up and shooting those same troops; those same troops, all the while, are forced to operate under insanely restrictive rules of engagement.

      I always remember those pictures of those Iraqis who were so grateful that we toppled Saddam, that they almost burned to death that chap who was poking out of the turret of that tank.

      The decision which parliament made in 2013 was the right one: leave well alone.
      The people of this country have had enough of members of our armed forces giving their lives in Middle East s**tholes filled, for the most part, with unappreciative, Third World populations.

          Nogin Boy – When I hear these lefty tosspots fulminating behind the cover of a skinny latte this Kipling poem always comes to mind.

          Tommy

          I WENT into a public ‘ouse to get a pint o’beer,
          The publican ‘e up an’ sez, “We serve no red-coats here.”
          The girls be’ind the bar they laughed an’ giggled fit to die,
          I outs into the street again an’ to myself sez I:

          O it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, go away”;
          But it’s “Thank you, Mister Atkins,” when the band begins to play,
          The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play,
          O it’s “Thank you, Mr. Atkins,” when the band begins to play.

          I went into a theatre as sober as could be,
          They gave a drunk civilian room, but ‘adn’t none for me;
          They sent me to the gallery or round the music ‘alls,
          But when it comes to fightin’, Lord! they’ll shove me in the stalls!

          For it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, wait outside”;
          But it’s “Special train for Atkins” when the trooper’s on the tide,
          The troopship’s on the tide, my boys, the troopship’s on the tide,
          O it’s “Special train for Atkins” when the trooper’s on the tide.

          Yes, makin’ mock o’ uniforms that guard you while you sleep
          Is cheaper than them uniforms, an’ they’re starvation cheap;
          An’ hustlin’ drunken soldiers when they’re goin’ large a bit
          Is five times better business than paradin’ in full kit.

          Then it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy how’s yer soul?”
          But it’s “Thin red line of ‘eroes” when the drums begin to roll,
          The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll,
          O it’s “Thin red line of ‘eroes” when the drums begin to roll.

          We aren’t no thin red ‘eroes, nor we aren’t no blackguards too,
          But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;
          An’ if sometimes our conduck isn’t all your fancy paints:
          Why, single men in barricks don’t grow into plaster saints;

          While it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an “Tommy, fall be’ind,”
          But it’s “Please to walk in front, sir,” when there’s trouble in the wind,
          There’s trouble in the wind, my boys, there’s trouble in the wind,
          O it’s “Please to walk in front, sir,” when there’s trouble in the wind.

          You talk o’ better food for us, an’schools, an’ fires an’ all:
          We’ll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.
          Don’t mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face
          The Widow’s Uniform is not the soldier-man’s disgrace.

          For it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Chuck him out, the brute!”
          But it’s “Saviour of ‘is country,” when the guns begin to shoot;
          Yes it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ anything you please;
          But Tommy ain’t a bloomin’ fool–you bet that Tommy sees!

        Just as many people seem to think Britain is still a rich country with a bottomless purse to pay for welfare for all comers, they also seem to think we have an enormous army and navy, with countless divisions standing by to march in to any tinpot country and impose liberal western values wherever they are lacking. Yet mention the British empire doing similar things in the nineteenth century and it’s all ‘colonial oppression’.

    Yes, I thought so.

    • embolden says:

      The delay is caused because the terrorists won’t release government soldiers and civilians that they are besieging in other towns, in the type of reciprocal agreement that is usual at the end of encirclement actions in this war.

      As the BBC revealed through clenched teeth on Today.

      What they didn’t reveal was the level of human suffering being inflicted by the terrorists in their pursuit of imposing Sunni Islamism on a previously secular state.

      It’s an unusual war in which only one side suffers losses.

        embolden,
        it was a rhetorical question. I literally could not care less if the bbc tells me the rebels have been delayed. I really don’t care. The deliberate influx of refugees into Europe is more of a concern. This will change the dynamic. Whether or not the Syrian uprising has failed is largely insignificant. The one conflict the ‘west’ did not get involved has ended badly. I would say that the wet fish liberal obama is not without blame.

    https://moraymint.com/2016/12/14/the-bbc-fighting-for-the-european-union-still/

    “Yesterday, as I was driving through the Highlands, I listened on my radio to the BBC’s midday news programme The World At One (or ‘WATO’ as its known). The programme was being presented by Martha Kearney. By the end of the hour, in my head I had written the following letter to Mr Roger Bolton. Mr Bolton is the front-man for BBC Radio 4’s Feedback programme.

    Dear Mr Bolton

    I have just been listening to Martha Kearney on the World At One (WATO) programme on Tuesday 13 December. Ms Kearney was tackling the subject of Brexit from the European Parliament in Strasbourg. Incidentally, Ms Kearney made no mention of the ludicrous nonsense of the EU Parliament shifting between Brussels and Strasbourg every month costing EU taxpayers about £100 million every year, but there you go. Under the circumstances, why didn’t Ms Kearney make the slightest reference to this circus?

    Anyway, Ms Kearney interviewed 6 people including, finally, Nigel Farage. During her interviews with a Czech MEP, a German MEP, a Labour MEP, a Conservative MEP and the European Parliament’s Brexit Negotiator, Guy Verhofstadt, Ms Kearney asked a total of 21 questions. During that time, she challenged one interviewee on 4 occasions (the Conservative MEP, funnily enough) and made no interruptions to any of the speakers. All of Ms Kearney’s questions related directly and only to EU matters. Ms Kearney also included a facile section ‘interviewing’ people at Strasbourg’s Christmas Market. What on earth was the point of that, other than to demonstrate that Ms Kearney can speak a little French?

    Then, Ms Kearney turned her attentions to Mr Farage. She asked Nigel Farage 6 questions, including questions relating to Donald Trump, so-called ‘Far Right’ political parties in Europe and UKIP MEPs’ expenses. As Mr Farage answered the questions put to him, Ms Kearney challenged him on 3 occasions and interrupted him 19 times.

    It’s interesting to note that a majority of the British people – who are, of course, taxed to fund the BBC, which includes paying Ms Kearney’s salary – voted for the UK to leave the EU, presumably because the majority of British people believe that all is not well with the workings of the EU. One might have expected the BBC to have picked up on this national mood by now. On the contrary, the BBC, on this occasion through the offices of Martha Kearney and the WATO programme, clearly feels that it is its duty to hand the BBC microphone to advocates of the EU (bar the Conservative MEP, of course, who was duly challenged during his interview) whilst grilling the man who gave voice to the 17.4 million British people who voted for the UK to leave the EU.

    The BBC bleats that on the matter of the UK leaving the EU, it is not biased. Give me a break, please.

    How do Martha Kearney and the Editor of WATO explain away such blatant bias?

    Yours sincerely

    Moraymint”

      “Today’s data provides the clearest evidence yet that the jobs market has started to cool off since the Brexit vote,” said John Hawksworth, chief economist at PwC.
      The employment figures are based on the Labour Force Survey, in which the ONS speaks to about 40,000 households once every three months.
      That is a very large survey, but it still means the figures are not precise.
      The ONS is 95% confident that the figure of a 16,000 fall in unemployment is accurate give or take 81,000. That means that the fall in unemployment is not statistically significant.”

          Carney should never have been appointed in the first place, the Bank of England should have a Briton as governor and preferably an Englishman.

          The present governor has politicised his position to a a degree unknown prior to him assuming the role, I can NEVER recall Melvyn King or Eddie George engaging in the sort of biased posturing in which the present incumbent has been permitted to overindulge himself.
          I seem to recall Jacob Rees-Mogg pulled him up about it in a select committee prior to the referendum and Carney didn’t seem to like it much.

      Indeeed, and why is it suddenly the “USA’s moral obligation to save Aleppo, Syria” when the BBC hasn’t mentioned this during Obama’s time in office. there has not been a single iota of criticism of Obama’s policy of stuffing his head up his arse and hoping the world will go away.

      Anyway, what do they expect a president elect to do until he gets in office?

          How the hell does he get the right to say THAT?
          All he`d been doing was appointing people that the BBC will hate, and talking to Kanye West.
          The lib left will HATE the latter bit-all they`ve been chewing on is the fact that he`ll get no Lady Gaga, Bruce or Bon Jovi to sing at the Inauguration.
          So Kanye West had better watch his back now…the lib left meeja types will hound him as they now do Kate Bush.

    Anyone hear Bernard Hyphen Howe on Toady this morning at about 8.10am?
    On the subject of Hate Crime, he defined it ( allow me the odd word error) as a negative comment about some attribute of a person they cannot change. So- age, colour, sex, sexual orientation etc.
    I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and also include religion.
    But what about clothes? From a recent previous thread, we noted how Muslim women in Indonesia wear brightly coloured head gear, and show their hair and faces.
    So does this mean we are allowed to criticise those who choose to dissociate themselves from the rest of society by choosing to wear Burquas in the UK? Or men who wear defiantly Asian style clothes and hats? As per the definition explained by the Head of the Metropolitan Police himself, no less?
    I’ll leave that one with you.

    I just love this guys pieces … takes no crap, and no prisoners,
    As I once said to a comrade caring for prisoners or your charges of course is a problem, but that’s just the difference between CQC and CQP we have to get used to it.

    “But, no matter how many Christians Mohamed Muhammad Mohamot slaughters, we look the other way and worry about “Islamophobia”. So the social-justice Pope issued a characteristically anodyne and generalized objection to “brutal terrorist attacks”. It took a Jew, the former Chief Rabbi of the Commonwealth Lord Sacks, to get to the heart of the matter, addressing the House of Lords three years ago on the persecution of Christians. He quoted Martin Luther King:
    In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.
    Those “friends” are still silent. Unlike the pseudo-refugees of Mutti Merkel, these Copts and other Christian minorities do not want to head north and bilk Germans and Swedes for lifelong Euro-welfare. They want to stay where they are and prevent the extinction of their faith in the land where it was born. A couple of years back, I drew a contrast between them and their brethren across the Mediterranean in the ruins of Christendom:
    It is hard not to admire those brave Christians in Egypt, Nigeria, Pakistan, their churches firebombed, their congregants attacked, but their hearts full and their faith strong.
    … That is even truer today, in yet another blood-soaked Advent.”

    More abject nonsense about Diversity;

    BBC headline: “Bafta Awards categories to exclude ‘non-diverse’ films”

    So, BAFTA is not going to shortlist anyone unless they can prove they have a copy of the Guardian in their handbag, think anyone who doesn’t read the Guardian has hate in their hearts and will collapse in a faint when BREXIT is mentioned. A bit like the usual awards ceremony then.

    BBC/BAFTA point out that “Of the 375 members admitted in 2016, 43% were female, 18% were from a minority ethnic group and the average age was 44.”

    Oh no!
    As compared with UK society:

    Where the workforce is made up of 46% being female, so big difference.

    Where the entire ethnic population, (in its entirety not just in the work place), is only 13%. So BAFTA is already employing more than the ratio.

    The average age of the working population is 40, so BAFTA is already doing its bit.

    Just think, our tax money is being used to finance this twaddle. Have you noticed a lack of old people, ethnics or women on your screens?

Trump immediately pipes up and says “Don’t worry Pope Francis. On tonight’s BBC 6 O’clock News, it was briefly and somewhat reluctantly reported that Police had found no evidence that a foreign dancer from Strictly Dancing had actually been assaulted, as he’d claimed a week or two ago. But wasn’t this originally reported as being a “hate crime” and linked to Brexit when it was first reported?
    I sympathise if this dancer’s boyfriend had given him a black eye thus jeopardising his employment as a physically flawless gay icon but, as both were disingenious, we’re surely due both an apology from the BBC and a “wasting police time” case to recover the cost of police time and effort.

    On Friday it is possible that we will see the long overdue release Sergeant Alexander Blackman of the Royal Marines.

    The BBC has decided to run this on their website:
    “Jailed Marine A’s senior officers ‘missed warning signs'”
    http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-38316244

    The first warning siren started when I read the first few lines. Having identified Sergeant Blackman, every further reference to him is as Blackman, not Sergeant Blackman or Mr. Blackman, just Blackman.

    I am aware that when any Islamic cutthroat or wannabe terrorist bomber appears on the BBC website they are always referred to as Mr, but not Sergeant Blackman.
    I’m making a leap here but I suspect that the BBC filth that penned this article may have some connection to the death cult.
    The other issue I have is that this a rehash of a 2014 report. Is the BBC trying to prejudice Sergeant Blackman’s hearing. I suspect so. Why not wait until Friday BBC.
    Your seem to have no problem in delaying or ignoring news when it fits your agenda.

      and! …
      We must not forget Corrie McKeague, 23, the gunner based at RAF Honington in Suffolk, the guy vanished after a night out in Bury St Edmunds early in the morning, 24 September. There have been conflicting reports, very little else. and squat from the MOD.

    After reading the Kipling poem ‘Tommy’ posted above, I’ve recalled a couple of his other works that seem relevant (selected verses posted below). My father used to say: ‘Kipling was the only poet the English working man ever really liked – and the intellectuals can’t forgive him for it.’ No wonder the BBC’s sneering pseudo-intellectuals have largely ignored him for decades! (They also view his as a racist imperialist, of course). The only TV dramas involving him and his work in the last forty years seem to have been done by commercial channels, so far as I can discover from online research. One was ‘My Boy Jack’ (2007?), about his son who died in World War 1. The other was ‘Baa baa black sheep’, a 1974 dramatisation of his semi-autobiographical story about his abused childhood. (I watched both.)

    The Young British soldier (final verse)

    When you’re wounded and left on Afghanistan’s plains,
    And the women come out to cut up what remains,
    Jest roll to your rifle and blow out your brains
    An’ go to your Gawd like a soldier.
    Go, go, go like a soldier,
    Go, go, go like a soldier,
    Go, go, go like a solder,
    A soldier of the Queen

    The Stranger
    (last three verses)

    The stranger within my gates,
    He may be evil or good,
    But I cannot tell what powers control –
    What reasons sway his mood;
    Nor when the gods of his far-off land
    Shall repossess his blood.

    The men of my own stock,
    Bitter bad they may be,
    But, at least, they hear the things I hear,
    And see the things I see;
    And whatever I think of them and their likes
    They think the same of me.

    This was my father’s belief
    And this is also mine:
    Let the corn be all one sheaf –
    And the grapes be all one vine,
    Ere our children’s teeth are set on edge
    By bitter bread and wine.

      Helena – I believe that Kipling lost his own son in WW1 yet refused to dance to the lefts tune that the war was run for the toffs by the toffs, with the working classes being the consumables that were of little value and easily replaced.

      Assuming that this explanation is even partly true it always amazes me that the left cannot see the close parallels with today.

      You have a ruling elite across the the media and political classes who are intent in fulfilling only their own selfish prejudices and goals and who do not care one iota for our own people ( I consider “our own people” also includes properly integrated migrants)

      This elite always espouses politically fashionable opinions where you favour non UK citizens (many of whom appear to despise us) at the expense of their own population. You just need to listen to Diane Abbot to realise that this is the case.

      Unfortunately elitism, arrogance and contempt for your own people these days seems to have become the natural home for the left probably far more than the right. It matters not how many grand speeches you make at Tolpuddle on martyrs day the fact is – is that the left now cares more about Islington than it ever cared about Rotherham

      How things have changed! – But maybe it was ever thus.

      • Peter Grimes says:

        It was ever thus – the Left took the votes of the lumpen proletariat for granted. Rather like the Zil-chauffeured elite in the USSR. With that strong cohort behind them the Left were assured of governing from time to time because the Tories were bound to upset the people from time to time to a greater or lesser degree.

        With unwavering, donkey-like support the Left could cultivate other cohorts, so we saw successively wimmin, gays, Muslims, immigrants and now transgender receiving their blessing, usually with the promise of more favourable, nay preferential, treatment and more (of my) money. The donkeys have realised that many of these selected groups are collectively doing pretty damn well, often much better than the donkeys who provide them with their free living. They have also realised that the money tree can’t go on producing evermore fruit and that their own share is nowadays much less than their collective contributions. The Leftoids and Little Timmy Farron haven’t cottoned on yet!

      A friend of mine told me that he went into one of the major bookshops looking for a copy of Kipling and he found it in the military history section or some such.

      Even those running these shops are unsure where to categorize his work, so steeped as they are in political correctness and the post-colonial guilt with which progressives enjoy flagellating themselves and the rest of us.

      It is impossible for them to counter a writer of such quality, whose views are so opposed to their own, as such they find it easier just to ignore him.

      Using the BBC’s own figures, never a good idea, the time taken to negotiate a Brexit deal seems to be following a geometric progression. This morning it reached 10 years, by midnight tonight it will be 1000. This is the truly scary bit, by next Monday morning, approx. 0817 UTC, Brexit negotiations will take longer than the calculated remaining life of the universe.
      These are just rough calculations but would probably be good enough for the BBC if spouted by one of their favoured experts.

    BBC Today programme this am. Item on shortage of female pilots and plans to increase the percentages. No mention of equalising the numbers of male /female cabin crew. I wonder why this was overlooked.!
    Using the medical profession as an example, because of family commitments it is necessary to train far more doctors now to cover for time off. Latest figures show that more than 75% of medical students in training are female, should not the BBC be demanding equality?
    Finally, again on Today this morning, white working class boys doing poorly at schools and not going on to further education. Putting aside the migrant effect on schools, with over 90% of teachers in most Primary and 62% in secondary schools being female, could this be having an effect? Discuss….not on the BBC.
    A report in today’s Daily Telgraph shows a post Brexit surge in EU students applying for U.K. universities, many from “poor” eastern countries, we have some 125k EU students ( most on grants they will never pay back) this apparently is all very beneficial to us.

    As usual the BBC refer to opinion as news, only the “right” opinion of course.

    The Today Programme this morning banging on about the “most senior diplomat in Brussels” claiming it will take 10 years to agree a trade deal. Spoken in a manner that one must assume Justin Webb is wearing sackcloth and ashes. Tediously negative as usual.

    Of course the reality of any delays in negotiating a trade deal would be a problem for the EU rather than the UK. Getting 27 nations to agree anything would be like getting a child to spin 27 plates simultaneously. Until that happens the current deal remains. If 27 nations do miraculously and quickly agree to penalise the UK somehow, as the BBC has been hinting at, it simply proves the EU to be the protectitive trade block that they claim it isn’t.

    I notice this particular “news” item has been watered down as the programme has gone on. I expect the BBC jumped with glee at something they thought somebody we’ve not previously heard of said, shouted about it loudly, only to get complaints from the person who actually said it.

    BBC home of fake news.

      So the BBC have toned it down because they now have to modify the “story” with the fact that the diplomat represents the views of the 27 EU states and not the UK Government.

      This story struck me as pretty thin stale gruel from the anti-Brexit kitchen served up cold for BBC Breakfast tv viewers. Delivered with a less than cheery grimmace – that would put fright into young kiddies – by our seasonal Grinch, Eleanor Garnier.

      Our BBC gal dates the supposed comment to October – just around about the time of the much heralded EU-Canada circus/trade deal.

      The decade-long gestation and the one national parliament derailment are elements directly cut from the Canada template.

      The EU can’t do deals. Spare us the defecation, Mr Holmes.

      I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: We will exit the EU in a timed out failure of negotiations due to their intransigence.

      That’s why the Remainiacs stall Article 50 and want transitional arrangements. They are playing the long game hoping to drag this out as long as possible and using the BBC as their PR arm.

      Our Eleanor playing the role of Cassandra predicts gloom and doom and smugly concludes the Government don’t understand the difficulties.

      The analogy for Brexit is removing a sticking plaster. Drag it out slowly and painfully torturing each tiny skin hair and halfway through you want to give up. Whip it off quick and the pain is over instantly.

        Why does everything take so long to do? Have MP’s (amd MEP’s) not heard of all night sittings (bring ’em back) and how about the Civil Service doing a bit of unpaid overtime for once, have they even heard of 24/7? If after 2 years we have not agreed terms for a deal, am I not correct in thinking we would exit and revert immediately to WTO rules and tarrifs? Let’s get on and make the best of it, whatever the deal, or will ANY deal be ultimately voted down by the establishment/elite/MP’s? And why is GDP God, and the opinions of the City and some businesses (and businesses did not vote in the referendum) more important than the message sent out by 17.4 million ordinary people?
