Weekend Open Thread

This week the Centre for Policy Studies published a report claiming to have found a left of centre bias in the BBC’s online reporting of think tanks. They also claim right of centre think tanks are more likely to receive health warnings than their left of centre counterparts.

The CPS itself is hardly impartial on the BBC – it argues for a smaller BBC and campaigns against the licence fee.

BBC News provides impartial and independent coverage to a quarter of a billion people across the world.

Fran Unsworth

A new day, a new head of news, the same old bias ala the Today show.

What worries me is not her gigantic size but her gigantic majority.
Thousands and thousands more people voted for her at the 2017 GE than in 2015. This despite her obvious racism and utter incapability to hold a responsible post.
Is it the snowflake vote feeling sorry for her? Or the black tribal vote which votes on the very racist grounds she claims to oppose?

We have many complaints hereabouts concerning institutional BBC biases. The penchant for the EU, the ingrained blanket antipathy toward Britain and particularly Englishness, treating conservative values as an anathema, the remarkable sympathy toward a particular Middle Eastern cult, devotion to public sector economics…

But for sheer toe-curling self-congratuatory hype, we have the BBC News Channel Breakfast show this morning inviting the “TV Critic” for the Radio Times in for a bonaza of Strictly Come Dancing onanistic regurgitation.

Prompting the thought – please make it stop. Not just in my home where I can deploy the off switch. But de-fund the entire horrible ediface.

Somebody earlier in the thread talked about how people like Tommy Robinson were described as extremists. Surely somebody wanting the status quo to remain i.e. the demographics and laws of the country to remain as they are, is the very opposite of an extremist?

How can NOT wanting to change make you extreme?

Surely if you had to make an argument against them, the language would be of a luddite or similar. Just another example of the ridiculous wordplay that liberals use to denigrate those that disagree with them.

    • StewGreen says:

Thinking for them : libmob would see that the status quo is “the world changing to become ever more liberal”
..therefore if someone wants to stop this, they’be a “radical”.
Now if you wanted to say stop “gay marriage laws” with bombs that would be “extremist”

Let’s see if Sarah Smith ups her game this week, I won’t hold my breath.
This is the response I received from last weeks complaint about the programme.

Thanks for contacting us about BBC One’s ‘Sunday Politics’ broadcast on 10 December.

I understand your felt that Sarah Smith wasn’t challenging enough in interviewing Emily Thornberry in contrast to her interview with James Brokenshire.

We always strive to be robust in our dealings with politicians and other figures of public interest. The interviewer’s role is to seek answers that will inform our audiences.

Our journalists seek to hold politicians and other public figures to account by asking them pressing questions on a variety of topics. However, the nature and tone of these questions might well be different depending on the programme concerned. For example, an interview on The One Show is likely to have a more laidback tone than the robust and searching questioning associated with news and current affairs programmes.

There are occasions when an interview demands a different style. While a direct, no-holds-barred interview might appear more rigorous, it is sometimes the case that a softer, less confrontational approach can be just as revealing – and more difficult for a politician to handle.

All staff working for the BBC, though clearly entitled to hold personal opinions and beliefs, are acutely aware that their views should never in any way influence their work for the BBC, nor should they be apparent to our audience. It is important to recognise however that a fundamental part of the role of our interviewers is to offer analysis, using their experience and knowledge, but this is not indicative of bias. Similarly, when an interviewer challenges a contributor, they aren’t expressing a personal viewpoint, but simply fulfilling their responsibility to scrutinise a claim that is being put forward but we’re sorry you feel the programme has went downhill since Andrew Neils decision to lighten his workload.

Thank you again for contacting us, we value your feedback about ‘Sunday Politics’. All complaints are sent to senior management and programme makers every morning and I included your points in this overnight report. These reports are among the most widely read sources of feedback in the BBC and ensures that your complaint has been seen by the right people quickly. This helps inform their decisions about current and future programmes.

    Kind regards

Never liked Frost, I thought his show ‘that was the week that was’ was appalling in its treatment of PM Macmillan, the mocking of him when his wife was having an affair with the despicable Boothby was a disgrace.

I liked Jack De Manio though. I even liked Brian Walden(ITV) who although a former Labour MP asked the right questions and then followed them up. He was probably harder on Labour than the Tories when interviewing. I admired him greatly for that.

I suppose Robin Day was the last great inquisitor who approached a degree of being unbiased. Not always though, his abuse of Knott was not acceptable

Brillo’s good but often supressed which means he is not in the class of the aforementioned others.

These worked in the days when the BBC took greater pride in its ability to inform and educate its viewer.
Times have changed and not for the better I’m afraid.
I will continue to do my bit before’ I pop my clogs’. I want my children and grandchildren to be wise and not BBC brainwashed. I’m pleased to say that they each have a brain and are aware of the immoral antics of the BBC.

      • StewGreen says:

Proportionality depends on the pool of qualified people not the % of the general population.
The normal error is that BME is skewed to the youth age range.
So to make 14% of 60 year old judges BME, would mean trying to get 14% from an age range that I guess to be 4% BME, so you’d be taking less qualified BMEs just make up the number.
Similarly I would expect public appointments to reflect the proportion of people averaging about 45 years old, not `15 years old.

      Gents,
That RTA where two policemen were killed transpired in 2002:
A man has been jailed for life after being found guilty of murdering one police officer and unlawfully killing another after he deliberately rammed into their car during a high-speed chase. Leayon Davi Dudley, 39, mounted a curb after a five-mile chase and, travelling at 80mph, drove straight into the patrol car which burst into flames.. A jury at Stafford Crown Court took nearly 12 hours to find the labourer, of Birmingham, guilty of murdering Pc Bryan Moore, 39, and not guilty of murdering 37-year-old Pc Andrew Munn, but guilty of his manslaughter. After reaching their verdicts, the jurors were told that Dudley had previous convictions for attacking police officers. He killed Pcs Munn and Moore after storming away from his ex-girlfriend’s home in a jealous, drunken rage. He had been drinking at a party on the evening of August 15 last year, before visiting the home of his ex-partner, the mother of his two children.

‘There are children in this country for whom British values are meaningless’
Who could write that? The Far Right? The EDL? Right wingers destined to be supported by the Prevent Strategy?
Nope. The chief inspector of OFSTED!
The Times page 40 on Saturday.
She goes on to mention the threats she has received …”venomous stuff ……a mixture of Islamic extremists and the hard Left”
None of whom of course got a mention in Al Beeb’s Far Right Prevent feature yesterday.

To be frank, I have every sympathy with the “Far Left and Islam”.
Of course, Spielman thinks like this, she`s Nicky Morgans choice of limpwrist.
They`ve all long given up on education-all they want is a vaccination room, an Obama stencil and a place for getting free condoms, or vibrator batterires recycled.
The Soviets DID do education well enough for nearly all their tactics and terminology to be prevalent in teacher training, psychology, psychiatry and sociology-even after 100 years.
That it`s all mind grooming lies and softening up for the New Order(Pink division) doesn`t mean it`s not being very effective in its aims.
Islam of course has no teaching tradition in modern times, it being stuck in the fourteenth century on a good day. But at least Arabic poetry has its merits and the content of both learned and tested properly-indeed jihadists can quote the decapitation surahs by heart as they wish.
And, although they are thick-they DO respect intelligence and learning, hence the Al Anzar judgements on how snowmen become haram if there`s no face or head on the creation.
Without such rulings, they`d be seen to be thick, dependent and utterly trivial.
So both Soviets and Muslims at least honour education. OFSTED have been a nonces rubber ruler since Major set them up with child-bride Chris Woodhead at the helm. Very Muslimic…

… She also mentioned 70,000 yes seventy thousand kids missing from the education system

There is an interesting article which gives some incite into life in the hive on the Beeb website

    Fran Unsworth’s hellish new job
    http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-42365957

Well the hellish job is going to be 340k. Which is a lot, but…..

“That is a huge salary, though it is worth noting that American counterparts in charge of organisations of comparable size would be paid several multiples of that.”

But of course there is no comparable news organisation in the US like the Beeb, so her chances of getting a $1m+ job in the US is probably about zero.

“Unfortunately, the sorry financial state of much modern media means that editors’ time is increasingly spent doing less fun things, like begging advertisers for money, or sacking people.”

Well the Beeb gets £3.4bn from the UK public, so hardly in dire straits nor does the advertising reference apply. Sacking people, hopefully she will do a lot of that.

“I don’t know and haven’t asked, but I would suspect that at times, at least a third of the job involves justifying decisions, often taken by people several rungs beneath you.”

All you need to know in the first sentence, he DOES NOT KNOW!!!!

Then there is a section about Brexit coverage and impartiality, well the proof of the pudding is in the eating and we know the majority commentators. panellists, are Remainers, so nice try…..

And then there is the budget squeeze poor Frau Unsworth will have to contend with:

“Aside from all these daily traumas, the financial challenge is immense: about £80m has to be saved from BBC News, and quickly too.

I spoke to one final round candidate this week about how these savings would be found. I asked if the best route to £80m was salami slicing (ie taking out a proportion from several different bits) or big, symbolic, chunky cuts, like losing particular programmes, or even channels.

Their response was: the trouble is, even after you do both – ie cut lots of big stuff and salami slice – you still get nowhere near the £80m.”

Now £80m sounds a lot, but what isnt mentioned is the overall budget, so impossible to say if 80m is 1% or 10%, so in effect a meaningless number. And if you (really) make cuts how can you not reduce the budget significantly!!!! For starters I suggest pension off John Humphrey’s and close down BBC Pidgin.

Odd, isn’t it. Only over the past 2/3 years has the political state of the Western World become really apparent. Right across Europe we can now see the extent to which the left/liberals have their tentacles wrapped around the levers of power. Like Poison Ivy slowly sucking the life-giving moisture out of the host.
Mostly all of the important left/liberal factions stepped into the daylight during the so-called, ‘Refugee Crisis’ in 2015 for one reason or another. What with the UN/Soros imploring BAME’ers to invade Europe during which they actively encouraged the invasion of Europe to various navies (including the Royal Navy) to act as taxi’s to ferry them up. It took one vessel, paid for by public contribution filming these so-called, “Rescue” vessels to stop that by using the law. But I digress. This really is a war, certainly, probably the final ‘War to end all Wars’. Slight amendment: “…..all major Wars”. I modify because it will be small factional wars that will continue as they have done for centuries when one group do not subscribe to the others’ views e.g. Sunni / Shia. Just imagine such a war, as is inevitable in my view, between a hypothetical Shia Bradford and a Sunni Birmingham. Scenes from Mosul? No need anymore as those white faces left will have a ringside view from within ‘Good ol’ Blighty’. It is now a war against common sense dogma and reality. It could take (if it happens) eight years to extricate the UK from the tentacles of the evil empire. Question: if there were to be another referendum around that time (as seems likely) how many of those (like me) in their seventies will be around to vote?
Where is that UK Trump? We need him/her/it Now. (latter all inclusive for the sake of Political Correctness)

There is one point which totally baffles me. Now, as I understand it George Soros is Jewish and the Jews and the Muslims don’t seem to get along too well together, so why would a billionaire Jew wish to see Europe flooded with Muslims? I can’t seem to get a handle on that one yet, particularly as European governments at the moment are worried about the rise in Anti Semitism. Seems to me he is using his wealth against the welfare of his own people. Maybe he converted to Islam. He is certainly anti European and many Jews reside in Europe. Very odd.

There is a theory that ‘the Jews’ are out to destroy the ‘white races’ leaving them as the ‘master race’.

Perhaps there are ‘some’ that think that way, in a world of seven billion plus people I’m sure there must be at least one example, (a bit like the way the BBC can find the one winner of the Nobel prize in the Calais jungle but never a thieving, cheating, murdering scoundrel!).

There are ‘some’ in this country that say that the Toryeees are only looking after the rich but if the ‘poor’ don’t have any money then they can’t buy the things that make the rich rich. Equally if one was rich would one want festering scabby shabby slaves? Surely the ‘poor’ have to kept happy enough not to riot? Ditto if one were a ‘master race’ Jew would you really want to live in isolation, surrounded by Barbarians, or be part of a world capable of providing you with sophisticated luxury and cultures?

During the conversation they could hardly refer to the patient as “him” because the patient isn’t male. Likewise they couldn’t in truth refer to the patient as “her” Because the patient isn’t female. So they must be left with referring to the patient as “it” which would certainly be viewed as offensive and likely to result in the doctors being struck off. I’ll see if my GP has the lowdown on this one. I wonder how they approached this problem 20/30/40 years ago before it was fashionable to be a don’t know?

The BBC are currently in full gush that St. Barry has granted an audience with Ginger Prince, plus the fact that every move he made was preserved by his personal shutterbug; a man who can now only walk backwards whilst bowing.

Not sure everyone has taken this awesome narcissistic achievement quite as the BBC has.

I’ll leave you to guess the rest. But where we are seeing many medics of colour being hauled before the GMC for gross misconduct, are we now to see the same in our august police forces ?

Just like my home town where visible taxis are almost all Indian subcontinent incomers. The answer to your question as to why they are all Asian is, in my opinion, because once a taxi firm is in Asian ownership, they have policy of hiring only Asian drivers. This is, of course, illegal, but happily for them, our wonderful justice system has always turned a blind eye. Doubtless, direct intimidation also plays a part.

Some of you might have heard of the quaint Islamo-Arabic game of taHarrush, where large groups of men harass and rape women, such as in Cologne.

    It’s now spread to Sweden.

Where apparently the last few remaining Swedish men with any balls formed some sort of defence vigilantes to protect their women folk.

But here’s the good bit: Swedish feminist wimmin put out a statement to those gallant few Swedish men saying ‘it’s YOU we fear, please don’t protect us if we get raped by immigrants.’

For this and other festive fun, have a look at the link below where you can read about more merry mayhem in Sweden such as ‘Four Muslim migrants assault and rob 97-year-old woman in her home’, and elderly overweight Swedish women gagging for a bit of rumpy with Arab toyboys. Could that be what it’s really all about? Decades of feminism having emasculated their menfolk, they want a bit of fun with some real men who can give them a good time?

    And 2 of my favourites:

“World’s First Lesbian Bishop Calls for Church to Remove Crosses, to Install Muslim Prayer Space.”

And: “Former Swedish PM Reinfeldt: Sweden belongs to the immigrants – not the Swedes.”

Friends, The Church has had it. Sweden’s had it. The West has had it. We’ve had it.

I have been on catch-up on this Thread only as far as near the foot of the previous page. While I share some of the gloom (and it ain’t just the weather!) about the lows of the last week’s national politics, I think we have to be realistic – Brexit was never going to be easy with a majority of the elected and appointed Parliamentary chambers and the UK Civil Service, along with a majority of the UK media, totally opposed to it.

I apologise for sermonising this a bit, again, but if we are going to get out of and away from the EU, we may have to march out – just like the Church Visible & Invisible – on our knees. We will need a miracle, perhaps many miracles, to see it through.

Think on this though: on 1 January 1973 no-one would have thought that a mere sixteen years or so later, people would be standing on top of a wall on the eastern edge of the EEC, hacking lumps out of it to keep as souvenirs …. without being shot by the guards standing nearby.

There were people nearby and further away, around the world, who believed it could happen and hoped and prayed for it to happen. They would have been very much in a minority, whether in the EEC, elsewhere in Europe or in the wider world. Most people accepted the status quo, especially those in the increasing affluence of the West.

The minority never abandoned their hope or prayers and it happened.

    Freedom day came.

    Stoikiy muzhik.

I read my Kipling, I study my Orwell and Churchill.
And after March 30th 2019, the statute of limitations, the guarantees of my obligations and duties to the law will revert back to what my parents would have obeyed. Not what Harman or Clegg think I should be obeying.
There will be real riots in 2021-have been in 81, 91, 01, 11-and even my dopey maths primary boys can see a pattern.
I intend to be on the right side of those riots, starting on March 30th 2019. Whatever May does until then matters not a jot, her mandate runs out with the Brexit date as set.
Nobody voted for this omnishambles of the elite-when we voted to leave, we assumed that they could find it in their hearts, stomachs and brains to do it. Not difficult whatsoever, unless you conspire to make it so.
Remember the brief flap last June 24th when the price of the pound spiked and fell? Remember the synthetic collywobbles over the Millennium Bug?
Well, it`ll be like that-and we can vote afresh to get more fiery Brexit types and terrify the Remoaners as they like to do to us.

Over the last few days, I have clearly seen and heard a rise in the number of drive by accusations of Trump as being some kind of sexual predator, who has yet to face Harmans “Court Of Public Opinion”.
Matthew Wright on Channel 5 explicitily said that he was a molestor or predator just in passing on a paper review, And given how angry and embarrassed the Left are now with Harvey and how smug they are that Bill Clinton has got clean away with it, I`m pretty sure that Trump will be getting co-ordinated efforts by paid former employees or candidates on his shows , as paid for by CNNBC etc.
Because they reckon on getting clean off as they`ve done re Russia, their open efforts to get him impeached or openly slated as an anti-Semite or sexual predatory deviant will now be doubled down up-if only to take the pressure of re the Oscars and media awards.
He needs a decapitation strategy with a few dirty fighters on his side, he should NOT have binned Bannon or Gorka. The left must be disgraced in this fight to the death that is soon to come.

And there’s me thinking he is a tax exile . Couldn’t put a bet on him out of conscience although he had to win.
Didn’t watch but it doesn’t sound like it has the gravitas it had in the past.

Wonderful ! I’ve visions of some communications engineer being so pissed of with the result that he pulled the plug. According to reports, he acted so surprised, but then his daughter handed him the trophy as she was sat next to him on the sofa, which made a mockery of his feigned shock. At least his acceptance speech wasn’t heard by anyone.

SPOTY: Somalian Mo Farah wins, as predicted by another contributor to this site. I’d never heard of either of the 2 runners up, who both (presumably and laughably) got more votes than Anthony Joshua or Lewis Hamilton.

Mo wasn’t at the event in person, but was connected from another UK location by videolink.

Unbelievably, the videolink went down at the critical moment, leaving millionaire presenters Lineker, Balding and the other one goggling at an empty blue screen. Lineker’s expression was thunderous!

Time this otiose event was canned. The BBC don’t actually do much sport any more. Most of the good stuff is on Sky and BT anyway.

I see St Pauls is on the way to becoming a mosque

Apart from sharing grief with the thousands that perished in Grenfell there is no need to sing about allans snackbar in St Pauls.

Let historians of the future note this event

Churchill’s funeral shows how a nation respected someone they may not have necessarily agreed with politically. The dock cranes bowing in salute being a case in point. Contrast that with Margaret Thatcher’s funeral with backs turned and gobsh***es mouthing “ding dong the witch is dead”. The respect for someone you may not agree with is all but lost now.

        Magnificent. Thank you GWF.
Peter Hitchens has a book where he compares the death of Churchill with that of Lady Di.
And brilliantly contrasts the two cultures.
Did I see Wilson wipe a tear from his eye at 3.09?
And a stumble as the coffin was getting moved?
Deeply affecting, most of those filmed will be dead now-and we need to remember them, so they didn`t waste their all on the likes of us and this culture we`ve let enter.

Whilst I have no problem with Muslims singing inside a church, I do have to ask the question is there any Mosque in the world (never mind the UK) which would allow a Christian choir to hold a service never mind sing hymns and I am afraid to say the answer is a big no. We would have people at the bBC claiming it is:
      Insensitive
      Racist
      Oppressive
      Humiliating
      Alienating
      Imperialistic
which all would boil down to making the usual suspects angry.
And of course not one person in the UK would point out in each and every UK planing permission , the clause which states:
Community centre to be used by all

Pounce, “I have no problem with Muslims singing inside a church,”

I don’t either. I think Muslims should be invited to church far more often. But the songs and the service should remain Christian. There shouldn’t be any praises to “Allah” He’s not really that great despite the claims of his followers. Muslims in the church should be invited to listen to the gospel message from The Bible. No Koran readings etc. If Church leaders can’t stick to that they are in serious error as Christian leaders. The Church in areas of the world where it was strong, should have been a means of support for Muslims trying to get out of Islam. A refuge. Not a reinforcement of the same globalist ideology pushed by the government.

Denominational church leadership appears to be abandoning sound doctrine and prostituting themselves to the cult of the progressive left. Compromising the faith for the sake of a false peace deal with Islamic leaders and the media.
It will not stand for long if it continues down that path.

I am not a particularly religious bloke but I along with millions of other proles have sure lived a long and good life in what was once a Christian, Capitalist and free speaking country. Speaking as an ex believer in International Socialism I feel that the British people, particularly the young, need to reflect on the old saying “You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone” before we all lose it entirely.

Pounce, Lucy: I DO have a problem with Religionists of War and Conquest singing inside a church in full uniform: it’s normalising Islamocreep, subliminally sending out the message “See, it’s just another benign religion, they’re just like us.”

        It’s not. They’re not.

Females Anya Shrubsole, Bianca Walkden, Joanna Konta, and Elise Christie in 9th to 12th places had a combined vote of 42000. Less than the 47000 for Chris Froome in 7th.
And then 1st to 6th were men.
So the biased BBC equality nonsense is clearly not being taken up by the voters.

More intensive brainwashing is sure to follow.

I can’t stand those melodramatic montages that they use for biogs, the same style of shit that precedes every Rugby international the bBbc are still allowed where that professional Welshman quotes War poems or hymns or uses inappropriate superlatives when showing us a try from an angle you can’t understand and they seem unable to clearly capture.

bBbc sport presentation has become so cliched and so desperate for an alternative angle, personal and camera, that it just seems to me to be both tired and tiring. I didn’t watch SPOTY, or spotty as the granite-faced Gaby kept calling it, in any great detail primarily because of Lineker and Logan and lack of interest and really don’t feel that I missed anything either. Although thankfully this included missing the bBbc pet pop project and musical magpie Parker Gallagher. Twat.

..and now I’m getting tweets from nutcases saying I’m promoting FGM
..it’s outrageous I get this dog whistle response”
Of course opening an Islamic bank account doesn’t create 1 more FGM
… but libland suppressing discussion of Islamic topics could cause loonies to explode.

BTW I can only see one tweet against Lweis and Sharia
So either the Twitter search is filtering or he’s dramaqueening
