    Lucky ,
I asked at the weekend whether the number of comments on each thread should be limited or whether I should stick to the weekend – start the week – mid week model . I thought I’d try this out as 300 comments in a day is a lot . I’d just hope people look back at previous comments .

In the same way that being at the end of a long thread may see end comments ignored, now worthy end comments on a shor5 thread may get left undiscussed. There needs to be a vote. And this then ignored.

Isn’t it strange that no-one in NZ, or Europe, America or anywhere else, ever feels the urge to walk into a Buddhist temple and shoot the worshippers? Or into a church (other than the Religionists of Peace), or a Jewish synagogue (ditto), or a Hindu temple, a Sikh gurdwara, a Jain temple, a Shinto shrine, or any of the other religious places of worship.
What can it be about the uniquely peaceful Religion of Peace that provokes such hatred?

I actually saw some balanced news coverage last night of the Leave Means Leave Sunderland-to-London march. Seeing that it was on the BBC’s Australian cousin – the far-left ABC – this is astounding. The small band of marchers, with their Union Jacks, looked like brave and dignified underdogs compared with the unruly mobs of London’s Remainers. As one Brexiteer remarked, ‘They only had to go round the corner carrying their Waitrose bags.’
I think they even interviewed a well-spoken Brexiteer lady lawyer (not a knuckle-dragger).

Mind you, on this morning’s news the ABC (and the commercial channels) seemed back to politically correct business as usual. All are overjoyed that some dirt has apparently been dug up on Pauline Hanson’s anti-multicultural political party, One Nation. (Perhaps the ABC failed to grasp that Brexiteers and UKIP receive the same contempt from the UK liberal establishment that One Nation get here?)

How are the British media treating the march – if at all? Do the cameras close in on marchers with moustaches, or hands raised to ask a question?

Then he was asked why he was always going on about ‘ respect’ when he wasn’t respectful himself .

The Maths Question on Toady this morning was interesting in that the problem concerned the rate of ice melting in the Arctic since 1979 because of Climate Change. Quite shameless the way the BBC brings race, diversity, climate change and LGBT politics etc into the most ‘innocent’ of topics. The five minute sports report at 7.25am on last night’s England match was taken up for 4 minutes and 30 seconds by reporting on the racist chanting of the crowd.
BBC Midlands Today featured a report on a school that has to feed it’s pupils with food from food banks because it has no money left to provide free school dinners. Camera shot to black and Middle Eastern looking teenagers, complete with the girls wearing their hijabs, smiling and tucking into the free food in front of them. The reporter concluded his report by saying that pupils are children of asylum seekers who have no money because their benefits are late for some reason. What puzzled me is that free school dinners are not funded by the schools, they are funded by the government, so the complete report was Fake News, presumably to generate sympathy for “the asylum seekers”. I can’t find any other explanation.

I’m fed up with the plethora of ‘Petitions’, ‘Marches’ seeking to alter Parliaments’ views on Brexit. Remedies? All very tiresome repeated efforts that will fail. Pray tell me, someone, how these ‘shows’ either way, have had any affect on Parliament? It has long passed the point where these ‘shows’ have any effect upon the political elite. That majority want Remain and that’s what they will get, hook-or-by-crook.
‘Fraid to say it but to obtain a clean Brexit which, it appears, most voted for, it will take much more positive action which will make the MP’s sit up and think clearly.
Take, for example, one Richard Harrington MP for Watford, one of the junior Ministers who resigned yesterday. He avowedly supports Remain but his constituents voted (50.3%) to Leave.
“Take back Democracy” people cry! Well, Conservative Party members, Vote -NO Confidence in Mr Harrington. Deselect him and all the rest around the country.
I think we are lurching toward either a complete rout i.e. Remaining completely or a partially watered down version of that. Whatever, it will not be the clean ‘Leave’ I and many others wished for.

I think the issue of the EU referendum in Scotland, (and NI), was complicated by local issues, effectively producing four classes of voters.

A reasonable argument might be made by a Scottish voter that staying in the EU would be more likely to preserve the UK than voting ‘leave’, so though they didn’t like the EU, staying in was the safer option. Similar arguments can be made for the other three positions.

While it seems illogical for an ‘independence’ party such as the SNP to want to be in the EU it isn’t from the party’s leadership point of view. A truly independent Scotland can be ignored on the world stage but an EU membership gives the leaders a seat at the EU trough table as an ‘equal’ with Germany etc.

TOADY Watch #2 and an appeal for some help.

Listening to the aniti-Brexit coverage this morning, I was struck with a thought just before 8am as someone mentioned the word deadlock and the hopelessness of the PM’s position and a Meaningful Vote on her deal: does the PM have the right to put a Resignation Bill before the House?

There’s something lurking in the back of my head that suggests that it may be so. It may be, of course, some wishful thinking on my part. A feeble clutching at a tiny straw that we might escape the EU with No-Deal and our £39bn intact and can face a future (struggle or not) as a free, self-determining nation.

Can anyone help? Any Constitutional experts on here?

I know that a Minister resigning has the right to address the House and to make a Resignation Speech. I remember (part of) Geoffrey Howe’s memorable one. I have a notion that PM’s are entitled to force the House to a vote on the back of their resignation.

    Is that correct?

I’m afraid it’s all done on ‘ Precedent and form’
The PM really is just another minister and by tradition they get to make a resignation speaker

Mrs T went because of the party internal leadership issues – the ‘ vote of confidence ‘ can’t be used again – so unless May just wakes up and orders the Removal van she can happily drag her party into the depths and the country into darkness .

Think that was Parliamentary language used after the success of the Miller & others petition to the High Court. It had to be ‘substantive’.

What we need now is a Brexiteer with deep pockets to petition the High Court and/or Supreme Court to opine whether the ruling in Miller & others limits Parliament to ‘having their say’ and that it is just one vote and that they had it on 15 January. All other votes fail in the light of that singular entitlement granted by the Supreme Court and are, therefore, void.

I think there’s a case to be put.

If I was May I would call a general election which almost all the honourables are terrified of because about 400-500 of them look set to be kicked out.

If the voters voted 60%+ from labour and about 75%+ from conservative constituencies for brexit then we should get shot of the nonservatives and all the “I respect the result of the referendum but…….” labour MPs.
We would then have a good 500 or so proper MPs who actually support the people’s democratic vote to leave.

    The manifestos will be interesting.
I only hope UKIP and the Brexit party agree to share constituencies and not split the vote by standing for the same seats.
There’s about 100 or so tory leavers (Bridgen, Francois, Redwood, and the like) who can be left unchallenged by UKIP and the Brexit party, the rest can be flushed away round the u pipe with the rest of the sh*t in the den of cessminster.

      This raises 5 points:
1: the PM cannot call a GE without the support of a largish majority of those who will be affected by it, so no MP in a non-perfesctly safe seat will risk losing their salary,
2: manifestos are not covered by the Trade Descrptions Act and can say anything and then be ignored,
3: the Brexit Party is intended for only if we are left deep enough in the EU to have seats in the EU (fake) parliament,
4: being an MP is not a calling anymore, it is merely a career choice,
5: has the PM already agreed “her” deal with the EU’s unelected leaders?

That was until yesterday when Ken was all over his new travel announcer, Richie Anderson. Bruce spent so much time needlessly ‘chatting’ to this bloke about trivial matters, “why?”, I asked myself. It was then I realised I recognised Anderson’s voice, he had his own show on BBC Radio WM in the Midlands (which was dire). To call Anderson fifth rate would be to elevate him above his station. He had to apologise for the very first record he played on WM because it was a rap song that contained profanities.

All the memorials to the ‘Heroic Resistance’ in just about any non-Vichy town you might care to walk round don’t actually alter or diminish the enthusiastic co-operation of the French with the occupying Wehrmacht and SS. Enough heroic Frenchmen joined their own Waffen SS to create two full divisions – Karl der Grosse and Charlemagne.

Not BBC, apart from being something that you would never learn about from the BBC, but just wanted to recommend the Gatestone articles for today:

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/13926/qatar-textbooks
    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/13959/turkey-feminists-targeted

Maybe you could show them to family and friends who think that muslims are ‘peaceful’ and their so called religion does not have an agenda other than worshiping their god. I think Gatestone are under threat for being allegedly against islam so read it while you can.

Anyway, here is a quote from one of them that is relevant to the soppy NZ population answering the ‘adhan’ muzzie call to prayer. This is what the adhan is. It’s not like your local village church bells that you probably ignore.

From Gatestone Article: “Turkey: Feminist Activists Targeted by Islamists, Media”

“In a recent statement, the Women and Family Coordination Office of the pro-government “Turkey Youth Foundation” (TÜGVA) described the Islamic call to prayer, the adhan, as a call to radical action.
“To us, the adhan is the renewal of our intention to conquer Rome, New York, Beijing, Tokyo, Moscow, Berlin, Paris and to complete our unfinished conquest of Vienna,” said Seher Şenyüz, the vice coordinator of the Diyarbakir branch of the Women and Family Unit of TÜGVA, referring to the unsuccessful Ottoman attempts at conquering the Austrian capital.”

I get the impression that an increasing number of people are impressed with the overt piety of muslims, all that praying and fasting – there must be something in it.

Another article to watch today apart from Article 50 as MEPs vote on Article 13* which would severely curtail internet freedom across Europe:

—”If the new directive passes, user-generated content platforms from Facebook to Wikipedia would be forced to implement “upload filters” to ensure material doesn’t run afoul of someone else’s copyright or risk being sued […] The notion of shackling the internet to fit copyright demands most creators are not making – essentially shoving the information-freedom genie back in the bottle – has drawn opposition from internet royalty, including Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the world wide web himself. Some 70 online pioneers signed a letter warning the legislation turns the web into “a tool for the automated surveillance and control of its users.”

I’ll try and post when the results are in but I’m not feeling confident.

Just as expected the product of the rotten school Rees Mogg is reverting to type in expediency.

After voting twice against Mays ‘turd’ of a deal he is now saying that he will support it. It is clear that his rotten education has come to the fore and shown him the most expedient route.

If he had a proper education he would have screwed his courage to the sticking place and held out. The resulting storm might well have washed away the wholly rotten and corrupted Tory party, but he would then have been well placed to rise in a new conservative party which did believe in some good moral values.

Alas it is probably the expendiency which got the party into this mess in the first place and it doesn’t look like it is capable of change.

I listened to James Chapman on Jeremy Vine and was appalled. If he is representative of the people supposedly working to get us out of the EU we are truly doomed.

He did the ‘remainer’ sneer about a deal with the EU being ‘easy’ to achieve, not. Well in a sane world where two parties are already working to exactly the same rules and standards it ought to be easy to come to a mutually satisfactory deal very easily.

Of course that implies that both parties want to make a deal. It is quite clear to me that neither the EU or our own government wanted a good deal. Indeed Mrs May’s ‘deal’ puts us inside the EU more firmly than any other country – at least they still have the option to leave.

Watching that footage Gax, I was thinking it is a lot of people, but it’s certainly not the 2 million the BBC were claiming this morning, no where near it.

Just think about it logically, 2 million people is 2000 x 1000 people. Maximum comfortable walking crowd density is about 2 people per square metre, so 1000 people require at least a block of 22m square (if I’ve got my maths right?), that’s about 72 feet by 72 feet, if you prefer.

      http://www.gkstill.com/Support/crowd-flow/MovingDensity.html

How many blocks of that size would you estimate in the entire length of the march (not including gaps)? I would say about 100-150?

That corresponds to about 100-150,000 people, still lots, but less than 8% of 2 million.

Can Remain MPs please explain why the Customs Union and Single Market are so great?
Last night the Remain-dominated Parliament of the United Kingdom voted to take control of the Brexit process. Tomorrow these MPs will vote on a variety of options in yet another attempt to thwart the will of the British people as expressed in the EU Referendum.
In their speeches yesterday – and without any doubt tomorrow – scores of MPs will stand up and extol the virtues of staying in the Single Market and the Customs Union. Do any of them have the slightest idea what they are talking about?
Our figures above are irrefutable. They come from our analysis of official EU data, released only last week.
The simple fact is that the EU27 make an enormous amount of money from the UK each year – £105 billion last year alone – and the UK is unable to do its own trade deals globally.
Where on earth is the BBC or Sky News on this?
In such a febrile atmosphere, real facts are essential in informing the debate. If we at Brexit Facts4EU.Org – with almost no funding – can analyse and summarise the essential latest information, why can’t the BBC or Sky News do this, with its massive resources? And if they have analysed the figures, did you hear any of the above on the news? No.

The customs union is good because it allows the free movement of goods between countries.

This means no customs checks are needed, just the bill of lading, no tariffs either.

The single market is good because it levels the playing field between countries with uniform laws all have to follow (in theory).

You shouldn’t be diverted by the rules of the older EEC. As a trading block the EEC was highly desireable, and you’d probably find Nigel Farage saying something similar.

Don’t fall into the trap of believing everything about the EU is bad because it’s far too easy and simplistic.

The issue with the EU is the way it set itself up as an unelected unaccountable politcal entity which is interfering in the culture of age old countries and using the techniques of the old Soviet Union to enforce its rule.

Voting to the leave the EU should certainly not be viewed as a black and white issue, more a see saw balance which is tilted for leave one way and remain the other.

You should yourself know the reasons why you voted leave. In my case I was not strongly minded either way, but the thing which swayed me most was Merkels behaviour in allowing the migrant invasion, which was illegal according to EU law, but nothing was even said let alone done – showing to me that there isn’a level playing field at all. Then came the attempt at Merkels orders to distribute the invaders and the EU even threatened countries with huge legal sanctions if they refused – in direct opposition to the blind eye they turned to Merkel.

On top of that was Merkels blank refusal to offer any assistance to David Cameron when he went begging for concessions .

It proved to me that the EU was not anything about ever closer union, it was German domination by a single individual, who is untouchable by law. We’ve been there once before, and I don’t see any good reason for walking into it with a white flag this time.

        Thoughtful ,
My comments here normally describe the EU as the ReichEU . It is built for the benefit of Germany – which after all – pays the biggest contribution – and we are second . I think the description is accurate .

I remember , at a tender age, the discussion about joining the Common Market . The British were lied to then and have been lied too ever since .

Free movement of Labour was never meant to be as unregulated as it has become . And when the recession comes I wonder how many Eastern European’s will get a single ticket ‘home ‘ on Ryanair .

Perhaps if we remain in the ReichEU and after Merkel is politically dead there might be a drive to change it . Particularly with the coming numbers of populist MEPs being elected in a months time .

I agree with much of what you say Thoughtful . I would add that the ECJ is not a similar system to our own . Up until recently the Common Law hasn’t been abused politically . But the ECJ delivers judgement s to further the ‘ever closer union ‘ and that is difficult for some one of the common law background like me to see as right .

Whatever happens after these initial negotiations end Blighty will not be a happy settled place for a long time to come .

The degree of polarisation of view is so strong – and the term ‘hate’ facilitated so easily by the internet – that times are uncharted .

I like to look at history for parallels to understand where we are – with or without MSM false news / omission or propaganda – but I can’t see a Parliament so divorced from the Will of The Majority and so ready to disregard .all I know is that one way or another – those politicians will pay a price . And I really hope it is high and hurts ….

Membership of the Customs Union will require us to impose the common external tariff on all imports. That will prevent us making free trade agreements with any other country. Further, if we are out of the EU under the terms of May’s Withdrawal Agreement we will have no say in the evolving terms of the customs union, and when the EU is negotiating trade deals with other countries they can give away preferrential access to the UK market to get better terms for EU manufacturers.

The BBC is always careful not to mention that 80% of the money the UK collects in import duties payable under the common external tariff has to be paid to the EU. These billions are in addition to the billions we pay for membership of the EU.
