‘On February 1, 2020 Trump signed an executive order banning all foreign nationals from entering the US who had been in China. The order came into effect at 5pm on February 2, 2020. Trump has been accused of ‘panicking’ by thousands of people affected by the travel ban.

Whatever you think of Trump’s ban and all the other draconian measures taken by Italy for instance, and personally I think it’s all madness, the polar reaction to Trump’s when compared to any other country is stark…the BBC guns for Trump and attempts to drag him down at every move regardless of the truth.
President Trump made a political decision which the BBC hive mind obviously disagreed with. Thus Comrade Webb suggested invoking the 25th Amendment against him.
This amendment is clearly intended only to be used if the president is actually unable to carry out his duties, not if he makes a decision which the BBC communists disagree with.

I agree mate. BBC viewers should be required to pay a subscription.Also they should be required to have a BBC account and then log in before being able to view BBC programs. Surely under such a system the BBC stand to rake in billions of pounds instead of relying on the threat of a criminal record for senior citizens who refuse to pay for something for which they have no use.

Sure we taxpayers could build solar power stations to replace gas ones

So in practice it is very difficult for such solar electricity plants to ever have parity with coal and gas
Plus actually solar/wind are not proper power they are intermittents.
You in fact need to keep the same gas power stations open, but running on standby.
Thus they don’t run as efficiently as when running flat out.
So putting up the standby power component of your solar electricity set up.

The last point is absolutely valid. The media you mention finds fault with the government because it is in its DNA. However I believe that today the governement has made a fatal mistake and will live to regret it. The failure to close schools and stop big public events threatens us all such is the virulence of Covid 19. The rest of the world has at last understood the dangers. If it looks as if this lot have put the economics of the country ahead of a existential threat to life then it will fall and fall fast.
In life one sometimes has to face reality head on and act. Boris and his cabinet have failed.
Children in schools mainly keep company with those in their own classes so there is no reason for a virus to spread amongst a group that hasn’t got it.
Children not in school interact with the wider population so may be more likely to pick up the virus, they are also, in these days of working parents, likely to be sent to stay with grandparents, an ‘at risk group’.
Similarly ‘big public events’ are not necessarily bad. Someone attending a football match or concert will only be in close contact with a few people, whereas, bored out of their minds, they might go in for some ‘window shopping’ and come in contact with dozens of people.
Politicians like Johnson and Trump will be closely following the advice of their own experts and in these matters I would put more trust in them than some bimbo from the BBC or Sky.

I think Boris’ ‘Behavioural Scientists’ have it totally wrong. They, apparently, advise that any sustained restrictions on the public right now such as meetings, sports events and the like will run out of public enthusiasm in a short period. Then being of little effect when the main avalanche arrives. Seems they overlooked the main factor which I suggest is, that when human beings see and witness many dying (including relatives and friends) and getting seriously sick around them they sure, instinctively, will know that rubbing shoulders with others will likely be fatal for them or those they infect.
Another example of the ‘experts’ ignoring reality and assuming the public is thick.

To ban, or not to ban? While minsters say they must not move too early to prohibit large gatherings in a bid to limit the spread of coronavirus, former health secretary Jeremy Hunt says the decision to hold back is “surprising and concerning”. Measures announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson included advising anyone with a “new, continuous” cough or high temperature to self-isolate for seven days. Testing will now only focus on identifying people with the virus in hospital. He says closing schools or cancelling sporting events at this point could do more harm than good, should people tire of the restrictions.
But the Scottish government has advised the cancellation of gatherings of more than 500 people, while Ireland has shut schools. And Mr Hunt says the UK is in a “national emergency”, with just four weeks until it reaches the stage that Italy is currently at. “You would have thought that every single thing we do in that four weeks would be designed to slow the spread of people catching the virus,” he argues. Susan Michie, professor of health psychology at University College London, suggests “nobody has the right answer”.
The effects of the virus continue to be felt around the globe. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie are in 14-day isolation after she tested positive. Australia is stopping gatherings of 500 or more people, not including transport or schools. Ghana and Gabon are reporting their first cases, while India has recorded its first death. Sport is increasingly affected. However, just eight new cases are reported in China. In football, Arsenal’s visit to Brighton has been cancelled after manager Mikel Arteta tested positive. Not reported in any UK media so far as I can tell is the denied decision by EU Fuhrer Angela Merkel to refuse to sell any medical equipment nor fulfil any outstanding orders to her European partners.
There is understandable fury in Italy that medical equipment including masks and aprons were turned back at the border by German customs officers.
It’s a massive story because Italy is already Eurosceptic and the actions of the lead nation, Germany in abandoning what it has championed for the past 5 decades is showing them in their true colours.
Germany they are saying wants us to do exactly what they want when the times are good, and talks a good talk, but when the times are tough, all that talk is abandoned as they simply look after themselves.

Gary Sport, one of the Sport twins and from memory rather elderly (he’s worked at the BBC for 40 years!) presents from the Cheltenham Festival while sounding quite husky. Gary presents the Jeremy Hunt statement as a fact in his question to the organisers of the Cheltenham Festival. “Why haven’t you cancelled everything?”
This is an event taking place in the open air. Sure, railings and handles and other things will be handled by possibly infectious people who have just covered mouths while coughing or handled handkerchiefs and might infect others.
People ought to be intelligent enough to know that all they need to do is wear gloves. Indoors and out. In late winter/early spring, when you would normally wear them. Especially while wearing posh outfits. And stay out of doors as much as possible. At an outdoor event. How hard is that?

The BBC were complaining about President Trump’s air flight ban at 6 a.m., a ban which was then followed by similar action to ban travel by other nations around the world. Then they are trying to complain that President Trump isn’t doing enough.

Does anyone else remember the period a few years ago when the word Tamiflu was, as they say, à la mode? From memory everyone was clamouring for it and our government spent a lot of our money building up a stockpile of the stuff. I wonder if it’s still in storage?
Unfortunately, as I recall it didn’t work.
I think when I know someone who has this viral infection I’ll start to get worried. Until then I’ll just take sensible precautions.
j-i-c, was that the drug/vaccine developed in a response to Mexican ‘flu’/swine ‘flu’ ? Seem to recall Gordon Brown blew £4bn of taxpayer money on that vaccine. The vaccine came along pretty much after it was all over and, as Sir Patrick Vallance would say, “We have developed herd immunity.”
Or am I muddling that Tamiflu with something else, a different outbreak?
I could be wrong but wasn’t it the subject of press attention during one of the ‘Asian flu’ epidemics around 2005 our thereabouts?
It’s curious that it isn’t mentioned now. But then I’ve read that our current virus isn’t a flu virus, even though it seems to be a member of the flu viruses.

Am thankful for Sir Patrick Vallance, a scientist, a doctor and Chief Scientific Adviser to HM’s Government and someone – at last – talking lots of sense about Covid-19 on the TOADY programme this a.m.. Tolerably good interview by Justin Webb for a change. Justin didn’t stand a chance anway against clear thinking and reasoning that was well-expressed.
If you didn’t hear it, I would strongly recommend listening to it via Radio iPlayer a.k.a. BBC Sounds a.k.a. BBC ‘Noises’. (BBC R4 8.10 a.m..)
It strikes me as very interesting that so many people have become so brainless and expect everything to either be done for them by Government or they have to be told what to do by Government.
We are entering an interesting phase in the history of the world.

C_M, I missed most of the TOADY interview with someone (French sounding male) who had been brought on to rubbish President Trump, rubbish the UK’s measures against Covid-19, dismiss President Trump, explain how Brexit is bad for Britain and the EU is wonderful, rubbish President Trump’s ban on air travel that other European nations copied within hours, pose questions about Christine Lagarde’s statement but mostly rubbish President Trump.
Oh, and did I mention the contributor complained about President Trump. He duly obliged the BBC in all of their desires this morning.
Sure, time will tell who has the best approach. I have to point out that the EU hasn’t taken any approach yet to Covid-19, authoritarian or otherwise. They appear to have been caught on the hop rather, firstly by the epi-centre of European infection arising in Italy and then the President’s air travel ban and the copycat action by individual EU nations, yesterday.
That may explain their ire, as expressed by the post 8.31 a.m. contributor to TOADY.
As I point out in my post below, we in the UK have been on this virus-thing right from the beginning.
Can I play ‘Metoo’? I caught the end of the interview with Sir Patrick Vallance on Today. Justin allowed him to speak and wasn’t trying to score political points. It made a fine change and allowed me to consider how the government is dealing with this.
I have to say how refreshing it was to hear the interview. The Daily Mail website has obviously not forgiven Boris for Brexit or winning the last election. They are screaming for the schools to be closed (in spite of the government explaining the reasons why they haven’t).
However Today moved on to I think it was something to do with black men in sport – I might be wrong – but it was something back to the old agenda and I switched off.
For all the BBC scaremongering about the stock market, the fact is that the Dow is still over 2000 points higher than it was on 1/11/16 just after the 2016 US elections

I feel like I’m living through an episode of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy listening to the TOADY Programme this morning. Think I should change my registered name/posting name to Ford Prefect. “Don’t panic!” Permit me to share some reasons why we shouldn’t panic.
The UK has some distinct advantages in facing Coronavirus/Covid-19. Firstly, we are an island nation and have some other global advantages, time/longitude-wise. Secondly, we are a scientific, medical and bio-science nation. Thirdly, we have a national health service which although devolved across the four home nations does work in concert. Fourthly, we have a relatively open society news-wise. Finally, we have been ‘on this’ virus thing right from the beginning.
On that last point, because it started in China, we have had a massive advantage handed to us in the UK. China went – in my view – through some difficult phases but have really helped the whole world.
Firstly, they were in denial. Then they accepted it was happening and responded rapidly and progressively. Finally, they took an extreme measure and it appears to have worked. I recall that StewGreen posted stats yesterday for how the outbreak appears to have slowed substantially in China.
I think the BBC and others would do well to note the above.

For the population to be safe, a lot of people need to get Covid19 to give some herd immunity.
Alternatively If we locked down the country for six months so no one gets it, as soon as we unlocked it would spread across the population cos there’s be no immune people to break the chain.
I smell the stench of burning human flesh, as the unspeakable ANC ‘liberate’ South Africa with their petrol filled tyre ‘necklaces’ in the eighties. As Winnie-Madikizela Mandela put it: “with our matches we will liberate the country”. The fate of anyone merely suspected of ‘collaborating’, a true reign of terror, that goes on to this day. It was all part of the ANC strategy of ‘making the country ungovernable’.
Why do I think of this? The ANC anthem is playing from somewhere in the house. I know immediately what the source must be: R4 has been left on. I know someone who is leaving CT for the US because of how much the city has deteriorated under the ANC government. From lack of water and electricity to boarded-up shops and crumbling roads and pavements. With deadly, rampant crime on the loose, as it is in the rest of the country, in which Cape Town is apparently the GOOD news.
In the countryside many hundreds of farmers and their families have been mercilessly slaughtered – no mention of this on DID, needless to say. Cities across the country are frequently without power or other basic public services.
‘Ungovernable’ indeed. SA is currently in the throes of EWC – i.e. the legalised theft of land. Productive land which, on the basis of very good evidence, will soon become unproductive land.

Fatty Boulton on Sky interviewed the opposition health spokesman in Eire, and because everything is closed down over there, Boulton asked him a leading question as to whether Boris had got it wrong here in not closing schools and large gatherings. But was clearly disappointed in not getting the answers he wanted, the spokesman articulately put his opinions and even indicated that there was dialogue between the health services of north and south Ireland.
Our government are damned if they don’t and damned if they do, by the media.
Question Time last night had Prof John Ashton, long time leftie and Labour supporter.
He stated that the Governments response to the Caronovirus was a disgrace and called Boris Johnson a liar, pathetic etc etc etc.
The pathetic BBC just dont seem to learn and continue with this appalling bias…The WHO organisation states the the Governments measures are correct and sensible..Most rational experts express the same view that the government at the moment is spot on with its response.

‘Professor’ Ashton’s best line was overlooked, when he referred to ‘How we did it in Bahrein…..’ which suggest to me that the noble expert has used UK and NHS qualifications to improve his own living standards rather significantly.
The fact that he was on the QT panel was more proof of the BBC’s admirable efforts to ensure we all pull together.

India has only 1 death from coronavirus in a population of 1.3 billion.
It hates the heat.
What we need is to build lots of coal burning power stations to get that global warming up.

Stable and cheap electricity.

#1 The UK can cheat in stats, but Asian cultures particularly have culture of being deceptive ..and that includes advanced countries.
In Ghana an embassy insider told me how AIDS rates doubled between the survey papers and the form submitted to the EU/UN for aid donations.
#2 In the UK they only reliable metric is the number of people who have died of it.
You never really know who got it and then recovered.
Nor the number of people who have it right now.
