BBC flying a kite for various vested interests in the educational system. Comments, as they say, could be going better.
e.g. Didn’t feel “chaos or confusion” this morning when my children and my teacher wife went to school. A bit of grown up reporting please BBC without sensationalist wording. Yes we have an undeniably big event on the horizon but as our nationally funded broadcaster you have an inherent responsibility to reflect reality which as of now is the majority of schools calmly continuing to teach our children.
I’m having to read The-i
TV reviewer Sarah Hughs Imagine sitting a child down and telling them that, once upon a time, the whole world gathered around their television sets to watch men make comments about pretty girls in bathing suits before deciding which of them was the most beautiful.
It doesn’t sound believable – and yet, for a while during the 60s and 70s, the Miss World competition was one of the biggest events of the TV calendar,
Sarah. ITV’s most lucrative current show
.. is Love Island .. it’s pretty close to what you described
Maybe the BBC should replace ‘ members of the public ‘ with their own staff – wouldn’t notice the difference – I understand – in most weeks .
But I’d still go with Mr Vance .
For the BBC – when information – facts – are really important – one knows that beneath the 24/7 repeating lies the propaganda stream being fed in all the time .
Richie Sunnak is to do another budget at 1900 Tuesday – what ever he says and does will be rubbished by the BBC and those it puts on programmes .
ti, I’m operating the OFF switch on a lot of R4’s N&CA (ie TOADY, TWatO, TWiT) at present because these so-called ‘news’ programmes have become pure comedy. They charge TV watchers £157.50 from 1 April and rake in a guaranteed £3.4bn although I suspect that figure is falling by the day.
Despite that colossal ‘free’ income, they cannot produce thoughtful, serious, balanced journalism.
Example: Peter Hennessy (a Peer!) invited to display his brainlessness on TWatO today. “We haven’t lived through a collective experience like this as a nation since WW2.”
Er, Peter. Yes, we have. You’ve already hinted at its existence and common name. It was called an EU Referendum and is now known as Brexit.
Still waiting for BBC, or anyone, to ask some valid questions about the outbreak. Countless funds sunk and vanished into bio weaponry when all it takes is for someone to eat a bat.
Want to shut down the world? Eat a bat.
Fed, you make a different point. You are thinking globally and what you say is true in that context. Peter Hennessy was talking about the UK. ‘We haven’t … ‘.

That appears NOT to be true
eg a Polish charter airline stewardess is saying her airline is doing 100 flights this week

Pug, we all know that the NHS is a bloody money pit ! Trillions have been poured into it over the past decades and its still no better off ! Its always more, more, more regardless of which party is in power.
The institution needs a complete overhaul with someone at the top who has a business mind and experience, instead of the one time nurses who make up most of the admin staff – did you know that ?
I worked for years in the NHS and was staggered to learn that when nurses can no longer climb the ladder after reaching their top pay grade, they take an administrative course and forego their medical training to move sideways in order to climb further up the ladder, thus earning more money. I made the comment to one ‘ex’ nurse, that I wouldn’t dream of putting myself on the ward without training, so why do they think they can do admin work without similar experience ?
The Chief Exec of the hospital I worked at was exactly that – an ex mental health nurse, yet here he was, managing a budget of millions. When we wanted some shelves putting up in the photocopying room, nothing fancy, just a couple of shelves for the paper, the cost was…….. just under £600 SIX HUNDRED POUNDS !!!! It doesn’t take a mathematician to work out how much money is wasted throughout the NHS.
So, next time you hear that we are short of thousands of nurses, and doctors (locums who ‘holiday’ from other hospitals can command nonsensical amounts for a 2 week shift), just give a wry smile, because its a money drain with no one at the top in overall charge to say enough is enough !
A ludicrous crass decision of greed ridden lawyers who have benefitted at the countries expense, and have as a result have put every one in the country at much greater risk.
The greedy weasels should first have been made to agree that when he was inevitably found guilty he could have served his imprisonment in Libya.
Instead now he will serve around 15 years in a cushy hotel with ample opportunity to glorify himself, and indoctrinate others with his foul religion.
Following that he will undoubtedly employ more greedy weasels again at our expense so he can remain in the UK whilst all the time inspiring others to emulate his own actions.
Who needs Islamic Jihad when you have the British legal system which will kill you much more effectively and profit from it, while all the time denying it has done anything wrong, and depriving the citizens of the country access to ‘justice’ via legal aid.
And they bought the bomb materials with the benefit money that flowed into their mother’s bank account
even though she’d moved back to Libya months earlier.
Pug, I wonder where they get the 510,000 deaths from? The BBC showed some very complicated formulas supposedly used in the ‘modeling’. Actually, very good scientific estimates can be made from a few facts and a bit of logic with answers accurate to less than one order of magnitude.
At least that is what I was taught, so, how many of the population are over seventy and have a potentially serious health condition? There are some unknowns eg what percentage of the above group do not get infected? etc etc. All models though are based on a number of assumptions..
I agree with your conclusion which is that (unless a vaccine is found) this could go on for a very long time
Pug, I think this is Boris’s ‘Churchill’ moment – Churchill was ruthless – the ‘group’ everyone seems soo concerned about could end up being thrown under the ‘Clapham omnibus’..
That would solve a lot of problems, inc NHS – which makes me a conspiracy theorist!
7pm BBC they have a race/travel show down Central America’s , Gringo Trail
As ever the BBC random selector has selected disproportionate BAME
.. but the main thing is that all of these clueless travellers don’t speak Spanish.
FFS that is asking for trouble ,
.. as is the BBC requirement that they have to carry only cash
… So the 47yo black guy stepped off his bus had a burger and suddenly realised he didn’t have his money belt.
I guessing he hugged a pickpocket.
Central America isn’t the Cotswolds
Giving the new C5 drama a chance
about a 19 yo boy who died swimming on a Thai beach
… a few minutes in the girlfriend appears
she appears to be black British.
and looks likes the white boys sister is an alcoholic junky.
The white father (Neil Morrissey) is in the doghouse over adultery.. oh the wife just kicked him out.
Enough the dramatic tension is provided by introducing a working class white victim guy as lodger and daughters babysitter.
He’s the same age as the dead son, and soon the mother and he have sexual feelings for each other
actually he has a tinge of creepiness about him
but if you sex reversed the roles it would be like the father having sex with someone the same age his 20 yo daughter
.. and surely most people would say that is wrong ?
The next (economic) thing that ought to happen is for the petrol and diesel prices to fall in the UK. They have eased down a little.
The oil traders and refineries are either currently not passing on the effect of the lower oil price to retailers – or – retailers are using cheaper wholesale prices to build themselves a cash buffer in case road traffic faces a severe reduction for whatever reason.
When road fuel prices fall, they will help the delivery companies, Royal Mail, other carriers, supermarkets and the online retailers.
….. follow the frugal example of Pongo Harris, the walking health hazard from Minder, played by the late William Simons, who was hired by Arthur to supply toilet requisites to a hotel in Willesden.
‘Extra-length, four-ply, colours various,’ says Pongo, opening the rear doors of his rusting Transit.
‘Top notch gear is it, Pongo?’ asks Terry.
‘Wouldn’t know, Terry,’ says Pongo. ‘I never use the stuff myself.’
Did anybody else listen to the BBC’S Clive Myrie being
facetious over the £340 billion coronavirus emergency
package?
The BBC has become the official opposition to the elected
government of the UK. I don’t know whom I despise more
the BBC or the “creators” of Wuhan coronavirus pandemic .
Which ever country Wuhan is in. And of course the fact that where ever Wuhan is,it has largest laboratory for biological “problems” in the country.
It is named The Wuhan Institute of Virology. But of course all of this is just a coincidence.
Or that a major general is in charge of the “establishment.”
BBC yet again using EastEnders as a platform for shit stirring and race baiting. In times like these we should all be pulling together but all the BBC want to do is sow the seeds of disharmony.
Black guy on EastEnders telling his young daughter that she will be seen as different “bcos she is black init”
The quality of BBC journalism is appalling. They are so stupid they do not see these loans that the government is prepared to offer are simply that loans with interest payable. The grants and tax cuts amount to £20 billion. Circa half the amount we are giving to the EU.
I run a small business with a turnover of circa half a million.
The possibility of securing a grant of £10,000 will cover the fixed costs of about 2 weeks. Nothing else has been offered. Absolutely pathetic and the BBC who spend most of their time criticising the Government for no reason can’t see the reality of the latest measures.
I am horrified!

Britain, too, is extremely complacent about China. FROM THE HAUWEI DEBACLE TO THE Chinese BUILDING OUR NEW BRADWELL/SIZEWELL NUCLEAR REACTORS. Like inviting the Nazis to build our Spitfires and Hurricanes in WW2! Can we really not build our own? How PATHETIC!! And 5G? Can’t do it? Doubly pathetic. Britain, once the technical/industrial leader in the world! Obviously complacency and (deliberate?) neglect?
We desperately need a Fox News and Tucker Carlson, Judge Janine etc. to counter the bbc propaganda machine, which will -to say the least- whitewash China, their Communist heroes.
No, Trump will continue getting it in the neck, instead.
White House? BAD, John Sopel, O Donoghue and co will tell you. Guilty of all sorts of high crimes and misdemeanours. A little thing like the President being found not guilty won’t put beeb off.
SO do not believe bbc propaganda, posing as news and comment, and -in particular- a programme like Toady – the most biased, along with Carolyn Quinn’s Sunday night ‘Westminster Hour’.
Fnw,
Yes, I have fond memories as a young man, working on the Oldbury Power Station in Gloucestershire in the early 60’s. The main contractor was, Sir Lindsay Parkinson – British. The only foreign element was the Sikh/Hindu (don’t recall which was which) workforce who crafted the steel reinforcing for the reactor bases. Oldbury commenced generation in 1967 and ceased in 2012 – 45 solid years – problem free. A testament to British design and workmanship (apart from the reinforcing….).
Well some good news. I won a complaint against the BBC and they reinstated a post.
I posted that it was immoral and fascist for a private company, the BBC, to be prosecuting and having people jailed for not paying it.
Not surprising really that the BBC pulled it. You can’t have people pointing out what the BBC is really like on their own website. Otherwise you can’t claim its what people want.
So I appealed, went through line by line, against their posting guidelines. It was put back up.
So in conclusion, its clear the BBC think they are fascist.

How come coronavirus only kills men and women? Are the other 20 genders the BBC tells us exists immune to it?

Pug, I wonder where they get the 510,000 deaths from? The BBC showed some very complicated formulas supposedly used in the ‘modeling’. Actually, very good scientific estimates can be made from a few facts and a bit of logic with answers accurate to less than one order of magnitude.
At least that is what I was taught, so, how many of the population are over seventy and have a potentially serious health condition? There are some unknowns eg what percentage of the above group do not get infected? etc etc. All models though are based on a number of assumptions..
I agree with your conclusion which is that (unless a vaccine is found) this could go on for a very long time
In 2018, 18% of the total UK population was aged 65 years and over
https://www.theguardian.com/science/2019/nov/19/fears-of-demographic-timebomb-in-uk-are-unfounded-says-study
It could be that the government is ‘betting the ranch’ on a vaccine?

The BBC is taking the Daily Politics show off as well as the Andrew Neil Show ‘because of the Chinese bug ‘. So what’s that all about . ?

Good riddance. They could scrap all their news shows and no-one would be any the worse – quite the opposite. A useless parasitic bunch.

Oh the priest is Alim Malek.. another BAME

The supermarkets are currently ‘coining it’ as ‘they’ say. Might actually keep the UK out of recession.

To make you smile:
from Richard Littlejohn’s column today:
….. follow the frugal example of Pongo Harris, the walking health hazard from Minder, played by the late William Simons, who was hired by Arthur to supply toilet requisites to a hotel in Willesden.
