Weekend Thread 21 August 2021

How will the Far Left anti British BBC greet the birth of a new State – The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan ? As the BBC is largely supportive of all things Muslim – or ignores – at best – crimes committed in the name of Islam – it may welcome it as a new friend .
Current affairs programmes will greet taliban spokesmen with due regard – unlike – of course – anyone from a disapproved political view . Further – will the BBC continue to give overwhelming support to Joe Biden – who is responsible for the current turmoil ?

Climate change: Greta Thunberg accuses UK of ‘lying’ about climate credentials
The first child-focused climate risk index report, which assesses where children are most at risk from climate change, ranks Britain 17th out of 20 countries. Geta Thunberg says the report shows the UK is not a ‘climate leader’.

Beijing has long feared Afghanistan could become a staging point for minority Uyghur separatists in the sensitive border region of Xinjiang.

But a top-level Taliban delegation met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Tianjin last month, promising that Afghanistan would not be used as a base for militants.

In exchange, China offered economic support and investment for Afghanistan’s reconstruction.

BBC local radio news, is still doing this weird weekend thing
whereby instead of having a news report for the local station
you get one which includes 3 or 4 stations
8am item #3 was nothing to do with Hull

It is claimed that not enough is being done to tackle CLIMATE CHANGE in parts of Yorkshire
(By who ? is that news ?)
Local Climate and Nature groups are holding a demonstration in Sheffield City centre *later*
… (em this promotion ..only AFTER something has happened that is it actual news
.. also Sheffield demos are nothing to do with Hull people)
XR, Greenpeace and Fiends of the Earth want a clear plan from national and governments on what will happen next
Mike Thompson is from Green New Deal South Yorkshire
clip “We need to transfer to a green economy !
We need to do that very rapidly !
And that is what we need from the government, from City Council
We’ve now got this combined leadership, we need that model to deliver. We need it to deliver the Arup report and we need it to do more than that”

    Now York music festival …
    In Hulll… The Freedom Festival
    James Bond ..”

It was dropped from the 9am news, but back at 10am and 11am. 1pm (slightly different intros)
Bottomline BBC mates have a demo, and this news item was about promoting it.

Can you image a news item beginning like this ?
“It is claimed that not enough is being done to Free US from Lockdown rules in parts of Yorkshire
    .. there’s a demonstration later”
    or
“It is claimed that not enough is being done to tackle GROOMING GANGS in parts of Yorkshire
    .. there’s a demonstration later”

When there are such demonstrations, they are not promoted by the BBC in news bulletins like Climate Change or BLM demos are

“Sadly, Gavin Williamson failed to get on the front-foot over the summer but the initial investment of £25m in CO2 monitors is welcome now and will start to make a difference. It is vital, though, that government must also commit to supporting schools to address any ventilation problems identified by these monitors.”

I wonder if the government will ensure any new school build will have appropriate ventilation? Put it in when you build it and the cost is a fraction of amendments later.

Or will the bureaucracy trail (DfE, ESFC, tendering process, actual builder, and only then school) ensure such ideas will be put firmly in the ‘too difficult and more than my job’s worth’ file.

A warning for those escaping Afghanistan …

Ahmadis suffer vicious persecution around the world. The main source of fuel for that persecution is in Pakistan, but what happens in Pakistan does not stay in Pakistan.

I know that from my experience in the Yorkshire market town of Batley. In August 1985, when I was 11 years old, my parents organised an inter-faith meeting in the town hall. It was interrupted and disturbed when, according to West Yorkshire police, more than 1,000 extremists, led by Pakistani hate preachers funded by the Pakistani state, were bused in from around the country. The mob brutally attacked my English mother and my father, a dermatologist; my eldest brother and I; and a Welsh Ahmadi schoolteacher who was with us. My first cousin, a GP, was by chance driving through the market town that day. He saw the mob and saw his family and friends being attacked, so he stopped. He was recognised, pulled from his vehicle and savagely beaten up.

How climate change helped strengthen the Taliban

Rural Afghanistan has been rocked by climate change. The past three decades have brought floods and drought that have destroyed crops and left people hungry. And the Taliban — likely without knowing climate change was the cause — has taken advantage of that pain.

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has come under fire from opposition MPs after telling parliament that the US “martyred” Osama Bin Laden.

Bin Laden, the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, was killed in 2011 when US special forces raided his hideout in the Pakistani city of Abbottabad.

Pakistan was not informed in advance.

“I will never forget how we Pakistanis were embarrassed when the Americans came into Abbottabad and killed Osama Bin Laden, martyred him,” Khan said.

Douglas Murray pointed out recently that the BBC hid the religious identity of some men who attacked a gay couple….seems to be a bit of recurring thing with the BBC…there are no bad Muslims…ISIS, the Taliban and others of similar ilk are not ‘real’ Muslims….the only good Muslim, in the BBC’s eyes, is a non-Muslim…if you actually follow Islam strictly then, erm, you’re not a Muslim.

    https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/why-is-the-bbc-burying-this-detail-about-a-homophobic-attack-in-birmingham-

‘ Does a BBC report from yesterday provide a good example of the fruits of their labours? The story, which in any case didn’t get much coverage, is headlined:

‘Men hurt in homophobic attack at Birmingham’s Gay Village’.

The article relates a very unpleasant attack on a gay couple outside a gay bar in Birmingham. The men, both in their 30s, had homophobic abuse hurled at them by a group of four men who then got out of a black SUV and assaulted them. Among other things, the attackers used bottles to attack the couple, and managed to knock one of them unconscious before driving off.

What or who might be the cause of this? Could it be another case of the fabled post-Brexit hate-crime wave in which the British Leave-voting public was meant to have engaged in an orgy of abuse against all minority groups? Or could it be caused by something else?

You have to read an awfully long way down the BBC’s story – indeed to the third paragraph from the end – to find any relevant facts about the assailants. There we learn that ‘detectives said the men in the car were described as being of Middle Eastern or Asian appearance’. Which may mean a little, or may mean a lot. But it is, surely, a relevant fact. ‘

Clive Myrie as Mastermind presenter….wonder what the main qualification for the job was. Maybe the first question should be ‘Is it coz ise black?’.

Can’t move for black or Asian faces and voices on the BBC…5 Live is more Asian Network than the Asian Network. Odd how racist they all are…Myrie, big racist chip on shoulder, thinks white US cops are assassinating blacks, Munchetty hates Britain, The Queen and the Flag, Nihal thinks Britain is a nasty, racist place, Clara Amfo thinks all white people are racist and that she herself is ‘authentically black’ unlike those half-caste mixed race frauds.

Then there’s all the cheap, racist, nasty comment that so easily and casually comes out of so many BBC programmes…such as ‘kill Whitey’…or telling white women to shut up and go away…or the phrase ‘Male, pale and stale’….ageist, racist and sexist all rolled into one.

You wonder how extreme their real views are…witness James O’Brien or Paul Mason…once free of the, limited, BBC shackles they went the full loon….all for freedom of speech but O’Brien can’t really be a good image for LBC.

What does Nihal teach his kids about Britain and white people when in the privacy of his own home….surprised they dare set foot in the streets judging by the nastiness and anti-white zealotry he displays day in day out on his show….just how much is that ramped up at home?

“We are the first generation to know we are destroying our planet”. Bollocks.

My daughters use far more fossil-fuel generated electricity and hot water, use far more petroleum -based beauty and hygiene products, use more single-use plastics, especially in fast foods and snacks, require more fossil-fuel heating in the house and more fossil fuel vehicle transport, buy more clothes from further afield, that then of course have to be washed and in our climate mostly tumble-dried, and waste more food that is shipped to them from all around the world, wrapped in ever increasing amounts of packaging, than my generation, or any of those before me, ever did. And will they give any of it up? Will they Jack.

They don’t realise that using bamboo straws won’t cancel out the plastic bottle you stick it in, rabbit-friendly deodorant doesn’t make the gallons of shampoo and conditioner going down the plug-hole every day ok, and being a vegan benefits no-one, including the vegan themselves, especially when all of the food eaten has to be flown in from thousands of miles away.

I love them dearly, but the generations of my three teenage daughters and their friends, and of those currently aged between 20 and around 35, contain some of the most privileged, indulged, stupid, humourless and emotionally immature individuals this country has produced. Not only do so many of them lack any self awareness, they are in the main the most hypocritically wasteful generation our nation has yet seen.

    Unbelievable.

We’re watching ‘Our Coast’ on BBC2.
It features that bastion of multicultural diversity……..errrrrr……Anglesea in North Wales.

They visit a place called Newborough Warren.
And it just so happens on a week away from the Socialist Republic of Londonistan we visited this very place about 6 weeks ago. So we are rather familiar with it and its typical visitors, hence our interest.
So…..guess the ethnicity of the presenter.

    A local ?
    White?
    Welsh?
Don’t be silly. Afro-Caribbean. Obviously. It’s the BBC.

And there’s more. After a few minutes of presenting from token brummie Adrian Chiles, we get ………the one-armed female weather presenter, and the photographer is very keen to show that she has a missing hand. Got that. Missing hand. OK?

In all the time I was on Anglesea, how silly of me not to notice that two thirds of the island population are either BAME or disabled.

But in the pathetic bastardisation of reality that is BBC lalaland, ticking boxes is literally all that counts.

Sooooo….let’s be clear….President Trump was right to do the deal to end the US presence in Afghanistan…and Biden screwed up the execution of the plan….that’s what the BBC is telling us…not intentionally of course but the truth is out there.

Naturally the BBC was very upset that Biden had handed Afghanistan on a plate to the Taliban…the BBC must have, rightly, felt so very betrayed…it was they who after all had liberated Afghanistan….

‘The BBC’s John Simpson claimed the glory for the Northern Alliance’s rout of the Taliban today in Kabul when he joined other BBC staff in the Afghan capital.

Simpson told Sue MacGregor on the BBC’s Today programme: “It was only BBC people who liberated this city. We got in ahead of Northern Alliance troops.

“I can’t tell you what a joy it was. I felt very proud indeed to be part of an organisation that could push forward ahead of the rest.”‘

All that BBC blood, sweat and tears gone to waste…hence they joined the rising chorus of angry and dismayed voices berating Biden in the first flush of realisation as to what was happening…though gotta ask how did they not know it was going to happen…Trump signed the deal in Feb 2020 and Biden confirmed his intention to abandon Afghanistan in April 2021….the troops started to leave in May and the Taliban were making rapid advances and inroads all along. Why the sudden surprise now and where were all these journalists for the last 18 months demanding to know ‘The Plan’ for withdrawal? Starmer shouts about government complacency but he hasn’t raised a question about Afghanistan and troop levels since, well, ever….and nor had the BBC….where are all their comments about the dangers of this move, the oh so very obvious[to the BBC now] likelihood of the Taliban rapid takeover. On the one hand they report that even the Taliban were surprised at the speed of things…and in the very next breath they castigate US intelligence for not knowing this would happen.

Now however the BBC is changing the narrative…didn’t take long did it? Once the initial shock had settled and they had time to think they cobbled together some spin to circle the wagons around Biden….and it’s very curious how they manage to avoid giving Trump any credit whilst, now, quietly applauding Biden and his ‘brave’ move…..and then there’ the odious and arrogantly dismissive of ‘the mob’ Matthew Parris in the TImes….

‘This shambles of an exit is not an argument against, but for the underlying wisdom of leaving and we should salute Joe Biden for holding his course’…..a perfect summary of the new BBC narrative.

From being the wrong move entirely the withdrawal is now a good move…an inevitable move…Afghanistan was a never-ending war that the West could never win…Biden may have made some errors in the execution but hey…overall, in the round it was the right move….and nation building could never have succeeded.

The BBC is suddenly wheeling in lots of pro-Biden voices saying all that….they can rebuild him and his image…at least long enough to let Kamalla Harris get things back on track and bolster her chances of the take-over.

There is lots of mad comment on the BBC….the idea that the Afghan army didn’t throw in the towel and Biden should be ashamed of himself for saying they did is tosh…they did throw in the towel…or at least their commanders did….they calculated living under Taliban rule was better than probably dying fighting for something they probably didn’t believe in….watch this video….an elite special forces unit signed a truce with the Taliban…they handed over all their weapons and equipment and jumped on the nearest plane and scooted….they had the arms, the training and equipment…just not the will…..happened all over Afghanistan….

Comparisons with nation building in Germany and Japan post WW2 are spurious…both countries had been united nations, ruled by one government…educated, civilised and advanced with legal, political, industrial and security structures in place nationally…Afghanistan on the other has never really been one nation and is basically medieval in so much of its society….to ‘nation build’ when there’s never been a nation and there are no underlying structures and institutions or identity or loyalty to a ‘nation’ is an impossibility…and consider there was no powerful insurgency movement in Germany and Japan to really complicate things and to divide loyalities.

5 Live dragged in one Professor Tim Bale to give us his verdict…naturally he shaped his argument to criticise the government and Boris…praising Theresa May’s contribution in Parliament saying it was pivotal and got to the heart of the matter…he then completed rubbished his own arument as he said that the idea that Britain and a few other Nato members could have stayed in Afghanistan without the US was fanciful…hmmm…yes it was…but, er, it was precisely the claim that May made demanding to know why Boris hadn’t got the French and Germans whoever to stay on in Afghanistan.

Then again…Bale’s narrative should be no surprise..one he’s an academic so almost by defintion a lefty…and two he’s a zealous anti-Brexiteer….and thus hates Boris and Raab…

‘ My secret plan to turn students against Brexit

If only academics could change students’ hearts and mind about this complete and utter catastrophe.

‘My name is Tim Bale and I’m an academic. I’ve been abusing Brexit for nearly a year and a half now, and I just can’t seem to stop. Not a day goes by without me thinking about it, even if I’m not actually doing it. It’s affecting my work life, my home life, and pretty much all my relationships.

The only thing it’s not affecting, it turns out, is my students. Try as I might to bend the minds of my supposedly vulnerable young charges to my Europhile will, the little blighters simply will insist on thinking for themselves. Honestly, sometimes I don’t know why I bother; I really don’t.’

Yep….people thinking for themselves….holy cow!!!!…..can’t have that can we!

    Horrible History.

We’re all African because we all originated in Africa….the Africans advanced across the earth, invaded and colonised Europe, the Middle East and the Far East….murdered and wiped out other races such as the Neanderthals and then proceeded to destroy the environment by burning and hacking down forests, enslaving, ‘domesticating’, animals and murdering them for their flesh, created ‘agriculture’ which has caused so much environmental destruction and degradation and pillaged the earth for its resources.

Afrcians have a lot to answer for….we demand reparations.

Like this…the usual narrative about slavery….yeah there was slavery pre-colonisation in Africa but it was a nice slavery….they were treated good….

    https://buzzsouthafrica.com/african-slavery/

‘Slavery, which existed in Africa before colonial, is not the same as the slavery that was later introduced by British and Arabs. British and Muslims introduced chattel slavery; a slavery where a slave is seen as a piece of property that does not have any right. In Africa, slaves were enslaved to pay for a crime or settle some debt. During slavery, the slaves lose the protection of their family and their place in the society.’

Weirdly the truth is actually a few paragraphs down and completely contradicts that narrative above, the one so favoured by the BBC et al….

    ‘Where Did African Slavery Originate?*

Most African Slaveries originated from warfare. Warring groups could take captives and when they found that the captives were of little use, they sold them. The slaves were then transported to a far place where they could not meet their families. Most Africans also used slaves to gain more wealth. In all Africans societies, the land was communal and a family could cultivate according to their need and available labour.

The main factor that could determine the amount of land to cultivate was the number of labourers. To increase the amount of production, a family had to invest more in labourers to increase the amount of land cultivated. The simplest source of such labour was to invest in slaves.
Therefore, since demand for labour increases sharply, most African societies decided to conduct slave raids on a distant village.’

Hmmmm…so slaves were taken in warfare and sold or used as needed…to work crops and to create wealth….isn’t that exactly how ‘we’ used them?

So what’s the difference? Blacks enslaved Blacks just as readily and for the same reasons ‘we’ did.

    Horrible, horrible history.

African slaves were also eaten, at least that’s what a number of European visitors to West Africa recorded, well into the 19th Century. Black slaves were apparently often very keen to be sold to European traders so they wouldn’t be eaten…. by other black Africans.

What kind of nonsense is this: ” the slavery that was later introduced by British and Arabs”.

The British weren’t the first Europeans to purchase black slaves in Africa, that honour goes to the Portuguese, who were followed by the Spanish, and then the Friench, with the English (not yet British) a belated fourth to arrive on the scene, probably during the last years of the reign of Henry VIII. If you read any of the firsthand accounts, we clearly weren’t very effective slavers at the time, but the Spanish and the Portuguese did attempt to ban us from muscling in on their monolpoly anyway. The British slavers of the time were really small time smugglers, attempting to run the Spanish Atlantic patrols in small, fast moving ships to sell their ‘black gold’ to the Spanish settlers in the Americas (who risked hanging if caught buying from British smugglers – clearly there was far more demand for slaves than supply).

The British didn’t get into the Atlantic slave trade in any significant scale until the settlement of the US really started to take off – so mid 17th Century? By which time the Portuguese had been shipping African slaves to the Americas on a large scale for well over a century and a half

As for the Muslims, they began trading in African slaves around 800 AD and were still doing it at the turn of the 20th Century… until stopped by the British… they treated black slaves appallingly, many of the boys were castrated, which killed a greater percentage than survived. At least according to Victorian British witnesses, who were horrified by the scale and brutality of the Arab East Coast and Saharan trade.

We all know that the BBC has various clever ruses to shape the narrative and message of any programme….choosing the subject or ‘issue’, choosing the questions, language, direction and tone, choosing the voices and interpretations, choosing what to emphasise and what to downplay….all can ensure a programme is very, very biased whilst appearing to be a full and proper discussion to those either not paying full attention or those not themselves fully enough aware of the issue to judge the truth of what is being said.

Famously we had the Panorama programme jam-packed with far-Left and pro-Labour voices…or the BBC’s reply to the charge of anti-semitism of one of its guests…..apparently it’s OK as long as it’s not expressed on the actual BBC programme….

    https://www.thejc.com/comment/opinion/according-to-the-bbc-antisemitism-is-just-a-political-choice-1.499543

‘”I quite understand your strength of feeling about the views you have ascribed to Professor Ashton on Israel and Zionism…Professor Ashton did not, of course, make any comments of the kind that you describe in this programme and I hope you understand that I would have grave doubts about the impact on freedom of speech, and the BBC’s ability to report freely and impartially, if we were to ban contributors from speaking on the subject of their acknowledged expertise because of the political views they have expressed, however abhorrent some members of the audience may find them.”‘

This is a similar tack that the BBC took when deciding that a programme about Rupert Murdoch was not biased [lol….as if the BBC would ever try to damage Murdoch and his business]….they wheeled in speakers whom they knew to be anti-Murdoch but claim complete innocence by saying ‘well…it was all their personal opinions’….

    https://www.theguardian.com/media/2021/aug/20/rupert-murdoch-complains-bbc-doc-suggests-he-is-threat-to-liberal-democracy

‘Some contributors did express concern about the nature of Mr Murdoch’s influence, but it was a matter of personal opinion, which individual contributors were entitled to express, and not a basis for inferring an editorial line on the part of the programme makers,” the BBC investigation concluded.’

A very slippery get out clause…..’not an editorial line’…but they did choose the speakers knowing full well what they would say.

      – Please look at the data and decide yourself. I suggest you look at it and think of what trend you would determine, then read Mehdi Hasan interpretation.
      – 106 vs 119 killings
      – During the September 11 attacks in 2001, 2,996 people were killed and more than 6,000 others wounded, which is missing from the graph because it is since 9/11.

Plymouth shooting: Woman shot by husband wants gun law change

In case you’re wondering, the ‘woman shot by husband’ (who wants ‘gun law change’) has absolutely nothing to do with the Plymouth shootings… the connection apparently being that she was also shot…

Yes, very sad this lady got shot, her husband was a complete thug, and tragic their son killed himself too, it’s a horrific story, I feel very sorry for her.

HOWEVER, demanding no one in the UK is allowed to own a gun, and keep it in their own home, sounds like a complete knee jerk over reaction to me. Understandable in this lady’s case, but the BBC are just jumping on a passing bandwagon to push their own agenda (again).

The vast majority of gun owners in this country are country dwellers who keep shotguns, for shooting pigeons, rabbits, rats, and the like, or sportsmen who go grouse or pheasant shooting for a couple of weekends a year.

Many are farmers, or connected with farming, and need a shotgun for controlling ‘vermin’ like rabbits, rats and pigeons to protect their crops and keep these pests in check. Sportsmen who shoot a few brace of gamebirds pay a fair price for the pleasure, and in the process help support rural communities, a traditional way of life, and the countryside (would be very few stands of trees, or woods in many parts of the UK without the local ‘shoot’).
