      In the interests of fairness.

I once attended a Buckingham Palace investiture.

It was mainly full of public sector worthies getting gongs basically for turning up for work.

Amid all this utter dross there was a minor award (MBE I think) to a gent ‘for services to the meat industry’.

There was an audible patronising guffaw from the intelligentsia in the audience. It was disgusting.

Truss does herself no favours in this famous clip but there is no shame in principle in promoting our trade overseas, even the meat industry.

We’ve got too many gambling shops in our town centres (London 2015). Elect me (Sadiq Khan) to be the London Mayor and we’ll sort all those three things out. {metro.co.uk aug2015}”

“O ye who believe! Intoxicants and gambling, (dedication of) stones, and (divination by) arrows, are an abomination…” – Qur’an 5v90

Who is in charge of 7000+ pubs in London in 2017?

… wait, Sadiq Khan spoke at the Chicken Cottage Awards in 2012 …
“Here’s the beautiful thing … these are British products, selling Islamic Products, selling Halal Products (Halal – throat cut whilst conscious, slaughtered by Muslim only employee, incantation to animal from a Koran by Muslim only). That is niche and general, but it’s gone main stream. {Sadiq Khan – youtube Chicken Cottage Award Ceremony 2012}”

        – Mayor in charge of 7000+ pubs of London with moral conflict with his religion?
        – Mayor in charge of betting shops of London with moral conflict with his religion?
        – Mayor promises fewer chicken shops (2017) but was promoting more Halal chicken production (2012)!
        – Mayor promotes Halal food process – which is positive discrimination for Muslims! {halalfoodauthority.com}

      Boats?

      – narrowboats?

The local health bureaucrats around here have been putting medicated mental patients onto canal boats on the Kennet & Avon canal for 10+ years – with “mixed results”.

There were putting them into housing association properties and creating nutjob ghettos – but the pushback from determined + fedup neighbors made them change tactics.

      • BigBrotherCorporation says:

You’re local to me, I think Tomo… the ‘mental patients’ in question mostly appear to be druggies, and a (very real) threat to passersby using the towpath.

        • tomo says:

In my experience the druggies are more often than not the “put upon” neighbors.

One incident that I’m aware of did combine the two … a MH patient enjoyed booze and drugs more than meds “fell off his trolley” leading to a naked knife wielding incident with threats to female boaties…

I do not know if medicated MH peeps are still being given canal boats d/t the reluctance of housing associations to accommodate them – but around 8 years ago it was certainly “a thing”… these are not your average dope smoker.

It’s OK to present a conspiracy theory
but the weight one should put on it should be proportionate to the evidence.

    Yes XR are ruthless maniacs

I reckon he’s wrong to say grass fires don’t affect streets
A field catches fire, sparks fly hire and catch a shed, where someone has been storing petrol, that inferno lights the garage, which then lights a house etc.

XR maniacs would say they are not murderers cos they took action to warn pensioners to leave etc.

It was a reminder of how feared and hated nut nut is . I can be a bit soft – sort expecting some acknowledgement for what nut achieved – principally to flush the previous toilet into the sewer it deserved – including the vile speaker – and thereafter achieving some form of Brexit .

But there are still far too many dreaming of a return to the EU …
For some reason the current speaker gave question after question to the SNP – I think I counted 6 – can you guess what one question those repulsive creatures asked again and again .. ?
Liz Truss sat and looked unwell to me – and at the end the Tory party clapped the PM out the door ….

On 23 November, Ethiopia’s Fana Television broadcast a 50 second-long segment of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed speaking in what appeared to be the national parliament. BBC Monitoring reported that the PM had said the Tigray operation would continue “no matter who dies”, based on a comment in the recording. We later established that the clips were not current and did not refer to the Tigray situation.

“I want to use the last few seconds to give some words of advice to my successor whoever he or she may be.

“Stay close to the Americans, stick up for the Ukrainians, stick up for freedom and democracy everywhere.

“Cut taxes and deregulate wherever you can to make this the greatest place to live and invest. I love the Treasury, but remember, if we’d always listened to the Treasury we wouldn’t have built the M25 or the Channel Tunnel.

“Focus on the road ahead but always remember to check the rear view mirror. And remember above all, it’s not Twitter that counts. It’s the people that sent us here.

“The last few years have been the greatest privilege of my life and it’s true that I helped to get the biggest Tory majority for 40 years and a huge realignment in UK politics.

“We’ve transformed our democracy and restored our national independence. I’ve helped to get this country through the pandemic and helped save another country from barbarism.

“And frankly that’s enough to be going on with. Mission largely accomplished for now.

I want to thank you Mr Speaker, I want to thank all the wonderful staff at the House of Commons, I want to thank all my friends and colleagues, I want to thank my right honourable friend opposite, Mr Speaker and, I want to thank everybody here and…

Incidentally, I’m sure you’re right, and the BBC are aligning their sights on a new target as we speak, there seem to be plenty for them to choose between, but the absence of Trump, Farage, and now Boris must have left something of a vacuum in their lives.

One of the things I find most repugnant about modern ‘internet culture’ is the tendency for (virtual?) mobs to form and hound anyone who (or is it whom?) dares to speak out, or disagree. The BBC often seem to be in the thick of it in this country, and quite happy to pile on with the other cyber bullies against anyone who dares to question any of their pet subjects… re: ‘climate change’, for example…

“The mayor has advised Londoners not to have BBQs in parks or private gardens due to concerns about the risk of grass setting alight.”
I think StewGreen often remarks here that the news is merely what the media reports. The picture below was taken by me five years ago at a local Open Space, I post it only for illustrative purposes. On a hot, sunny day the people pictured have decided that the shady spaces under the trees are the place for them, as you can see from the smoke they saw no danger in setting up their BBQs beneath the low branches. It might be instructive to know that, on the outskirts of North London, NONE of these people were English speakers.
I suspect accidents caused by this sort of thing happen a lot, but don’t make the news.
Yesterday’s fires a case of ‘play stupid games, win stupid prizes?’

Real news = something that is NEW and Different and relevant to YOU… UK people

eg another mass shooter episode in the US
is not news, cos it’s a common thing and not relevant to the UK

eg war events in Ukraine are more news than wars in Africa

pug, just judging by the number of discarded ciggie butts I see around together with discarded glass bottles (am still scoring on discarded facemasks and have pased a double century) together with the BBC’s recent ‘exposé’ on vaping, I suspect that a lot of the fires were purely accidental.

Then there is the other thing that motorists have to be reminded of from time to time, now that catalytic converters are near universal. Scenario: motorist without ‘hands-free’ gets a call or text on phone. Pulls over, switches off to take the call legally while unaware grass or rubbish underneath the car is now burning. Ends call, drives off. Grass/rubbish fire spreads, wind takes up the sparks and it travels and hey-ho, you have a wildfire.

    The Weather Machine
    BBC Two
Wed 20th Nov 1974, 21:00 on BBC Two England
A global investigation into the Earth’s changing climate.
Written by Nigel Calder . Introduced by Magnus Magnusson . Narrated by Eric Porter

1974 has been a bad year for weather, with disastrous floods and droughts, a failed monsoon in India, unprecedented tornadoes in America, a dismal summer and unseasonable gales in Europe.
The machine that makes the world’s weather is changing gear – and the shift is downward, against mankind. The smallest change means loss of life in flood or drought, and the wholesale destruction of crops. For us, the price of food goes up; for millions more, it brings hunger or starvation. In the background looms the threat of ice, and the obliteration of northern lands – including Britain.

    Blue Labour thinking Socialist again.

Europe is in an energy crisis today the EU has instructed all states to reduce their gas consumption by 15%, presumably so they can feed it to Germany who deserve the mess they are in.

Britain is not in an energy crisis, not because our political elites were somehow any better, but through sheer dumb luck they hadn’t been able to wreck it yet.

Now we have an amazing opportunity to tempt continental industry to the UK by offering them continual power for their production.

Only the Blue Labour lot won’t because industry and jobs don’t matter to Socialists who see everything through the prism of nationalised industry and cannot conceive of the concept of a larger private sector.

Maybe the People’s Republic of China (sic) should be reunified under Taiwanese rule?

Considering the Taiwanese government predates that of the ROC, that would be the logical and sensible decision, and one which I’m sure would get mass support within the ‘People’s Republic’, especially in Xinjiang, Tibet, and Hong Kong.

That’ a 4 year old video
Caren Z. Turner, a Democratic lobbyis
resigned as a commissioner from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey,
Turner’s resignation allegedly involved her intervention in a recent traffic stop in connection with her daughter
She flashed her Port Authority badge in an effort to intercede with police officers on the scene.
After her tirade with Tenafly police, former Port Authority commissioner Caren Turner went to the Tenafly police headquarters to ask about the impounded car.

    There’ a much shorter video
She’s not THE the Port Authority commissioner

she’s just one of the 12 as a commissioner from the Port Authority
She was however head of an ETHICS committee ha ha

There’ a TV discussion too https://youtu.be/f1GNhdccdO0

    PMQ’s again.
Aided and abetted by Speaker Hoyle, the SNP were allowed to rip into Boris Johnson mercilessly on his final PMQ’s. The number of SNP MP’s called was totally disproportionate to the number of SNP MP’s in Parliament or indeed the number of Scottish people in the UK. Hoyle knew that the SNP would give Johnson a rougher ride than Smarmer.
The sheer viciousness and hate was quite striking, it made me wonder what example this is setting to the Scottish people. I wouldn’t be surprised if it could Incite terrorism.

Not one to gloat or anything, but I told you so.

They have put remainer Liz Truss in as the next PM.

Let’s hope she’s not as bad as Theresa May – but she has shown how easily she can switch sides when it suits her – and her future prospects within the establishment will be greatly increased if she takes us back to the EU.

Watching Lois Theroux interview on murderers who killed their parents in that fine upstanding country called the USA.

Lots of sympathy for the evil killers.

Lots of support for the evil killers.

    Where is this world going?

They should be facing the electric chair or else any personal disagreement can be a reason for murder and a get out of jail card as long as the victim is an older person.

Wouldn’t work if an older guy brutally murdered a younger guy though.

We are going into a very dark place thanks to our blindfolded media.

How long before older people are attacked in the street just for being old?
