I am sure that allowing the hate marches has caused more trouble for the Jewish community and the growth of antisemitism. I wouldn’t describe Brexit as a disaster at all but it wasn’t as good as it should have been. Due to the intransigence of the Remoaners, Starmer plus many other politicians, people like Gina Miller, Teresa May, the Establishment and the EU itself meant we could never have made the best deal. Our negotiating position was weakened by our leaders and background noise meant our positions was seriously eroded, mostly from within. What do you get when you conduct a negotiation from a transparently weak position? A bad deal.

Could this be applied to the present Labour government?
The vote was once in a generation. That the bureaucratic/political establishment did not agree with the vote and have fought a rearguard action since is irrelevant – we have to live with the mess, albeit an unnecessary one and driven by a minority of the voters.
Ultimately the referendum was one of instinct and instinct said out. There is good reason for that instinct; mainland Europe’s perception of risk is military, while the UK’s preception of risk is political. Membership of the EU enhances political risk and mainland EU politicians have not grasped that concept.
The UK leaving the EU was a strategic disaster for the continent, but their response has been pathetic. Rather than analyse why we left they have indulged themselves in a bit of ‘wife beating’ to ‘learn’ the UK a lesson.

But as I read the article it dawned on me that the vote of Muslims depends on one single issue : what is best for Islam. Not Islam in the UK, Islam across the world. They will ignore any and all issues about our country whilst instead voting for someone who will force support for a terrorist Muslim country thousands of miles away.
As much as I consider the options, I can see only one solution. They have been here 50 years or more and things are worse than ever. As their numbers increase, so does the weight of their vote for issues like this. But that solution involves deporting all such minded people to the Muslim countries where their loyalties lie.

Fed, I wish I could point to a tipping point event and say this is when the Brits began to go downhill. Perhaps it was when they gave in to Irish nationalists in the early 1920s. It wasn’t a good deal for the Brits but they did manage to include three ports known as the treaty ports on the Irish Free state coast which were considered necessary for the Royal Navy and defence of Britain. They were on 99 year leases. Chamberlain gave them all away in 1938 and there was not much outrage that I can tell. There was a clause whereby the Brits could get them back in the event of an emergency, but a year later the request was denied by DeValera who did not consider war against Hitler met the requirements. Surprise surprise! Many British and other lives would have been saved if they’d had use of these ports. Chamberlain was a pathetic negotiator. But the rot must have set in before that. Exactly when… I’m still working on that.
