Watching Andy Burnham speaking about how wealthier areas will have to take more of the recently arrived. Whenever I hear Burnham speak the expression ‘word salad’ comes to mind. He waffles, choosing whatever words he can find to fill in the time and stop a more difficult question being asked.
In my area a hotel filled with asylum seekers was in one of the best suburbs of the city. Another building which housed migrants had been student accommodation but also in one of the better parts of town.
If the government is going to house migrants in Belsize Park where a three story single fronted house goes for around £3 million, or a house in Chelsea which will be even more expensive. Who is going to pay for the expensive properties? It will have to be us, the tax payer. I’m not sure Mr Burnham has thought this out.
Why should any area take them? Put them on a cold and wet island with water and bread and the option of a ticket home ala Ceuta [where they weren’t even given food and water so as to better encourage a bit of homesickness].

I looked at an AI response to a query about dormant, redundant or mothballed Young Offenders Institutions, Secure Care homes etc., the other day.
There are lots of these buildings throughout the country rather like disused air bases, but the – assumed – official response, is that these secure properties are too ‘out-of-date for new ‘residents”, and therefore not viable, as they ‘need refurbishment’ or ‘upgrdaing’.

Old gits like me can well remember the long hot summer of 1976. I was a young apprentice gardener, working in a delightful little secluded garden in south London. I’m back there now, though these days as a volunteer. I love it.
The drought of ’76 went on well into September. We had hosepipe bans, were encouraged not to flush the toilet; “If it’s yellow let it mellow”, blimey, even the tarmac was melting and vast swathes of Wimbledon Common caught fire.
Last Friday I took in a photo of us youngster from ’76, drawing water from a cesspit to quench our parched crops…and I took a snap of the present day volunteers in the same spot.
Since ’76, I think I’m right in saying, we haven’t built a single decent reservoir…even though our population has been allowed to increase massively. In 1976 the population of Blighty was (about) 56 million. In 2026 it’s officially (about) 70 million…that we know of…with at least 10 million plus that we don’t know about.
We don’t need ever more fretting about the climate. We need sensible and sane immigration controls and grown ups in government.

In Piddington, because of the huge number of doctors and engineers recently arriving the house prices must have dropped considerably.
Will their council tax be dropped because their houses are worth a lot less now and will surely be down at least one band.
Isn’t it a very convenient argument to keep all these enrichers away from the ‘elite’ lot who live in expensive areas when they house them in poor areas amongst the lower classes and in cheap housing.
They tell us the costs are down and they keep the docs and engineers away from their homes.
It’s actually a good argument as it makes sense but it isn’t a fair way of handling the mass numbers of new labour voters.
If Burnham starts putting them in expensive areas the rich will squeal and the rest will complain about the cost.

It has to be something the politicians and the rich can make lots of money from.
It must be something which the politicians can use to bring in more control over their populations.
It must allow the politicians to slag off all those who try to show it’s all rubbish. Call them deniers, fascists or something equally distasteful.
They need to force their will onto their populations such as making jabs compulsory or lose jobs (like health carers) and it will cost us in so many ways.
