I suspect there are many lecturers, professors and researchers at UK universities who are prepared to gild the lily of their research, or indeed of their whole life. Jason Ardey took it to a whole new level. But our criticism wasn’t really of him.
Our scorn was for the Lefties of academia, the Lefterati who appointed him. We all know it was their desperation to hire a young black person from a deprived background, they were eager to ignore the fact that his academic ability wasn’t up to it.
I feel no guilt. Ardey was a liar and I don’t like liars. But the real guilt for his death should be felt by those who knew why they were appointing him and those pushing the DEI agenda.
There will surely be claims that Jason Arday was hounded to his sad demise – I stand by my assertion that he was a victim of the DEI obsessed progressives – anyone who’s made the the sort of claims he did is going to be psychologically fragile – the moment the storm broke the people who put him into the situation must take some responsibility – The Priory or something similar… I wonder if he asked for help and his calls weren’t answered.

However, for the woke brigade , academia as a whole and of course Cambridge , not mention his legion of woke supporters like the BBC, and the whole DEI plan, it is very timely .
It will be used to deflect any follow up into why he was appointed to a position which was miles above his abilities. Allow his supporters to wipe off some of the egg on their faces and be used to stop any further inquiry into other academics , there are many, who have been promoted well above their abilities on the back of DEI.
Indeed the timing is so good that if this were a spy story you would be suspicious that dark forces weren’t at work.

I really came here to post about the new Fire minister but I do feel sadness that Jason Ardey has died.
I was curious what qualifications Baroness Blake of Leeds has to become Fire Minister. I googled her. She was leader of Leeds Council (Labour of course), but certainly Wiki doesn’t provide any clue why she is the most suited for the job.
I am wondering what the Baroness’ remit is. I am hoping she has the power to over rule the eco lobby and declare that in future there should be controlled burning on moors and arable areas to ensure there isn’t plenty of tinder around in hot summers. I am hoping as the Baroness drives from Leeds to London (or do I mean Manchester?) to perform her duties, she might notice that councils are no longer trimming branches and they now hide the road signs that give us all a clue which road we need to take. It is all very well banning disposable barbeques (probably a good idea anyway) but do we or the government actually know that they are the cause of these fires.

Seventy four years ago today, the delightful village of Lynmouth was destroyed under a deluge of water cascading down from the moors above.
There has been speculation that the huge downpour which lifted the rivers to a new height, were caused by cloud seeding experiments with silver iodide crystals being scattered over clouds, which then precipitated an extraordinary amount of rain over the dry moorlands, which, like squeezing a sponge, just gave up and dropped the lot into the rivers.

Scrobs, AI is used to produce lots of fakes things – but only because people ask it to.
It is an excellent fact-checker because it reads everything there is about a subject and intelligently cross-references all of it.
But it’s not so easy to get it to tell you. It starts at the ‘BBC report’ high-level and only digs deeper if you ask it specific questions or throw some claim about the bias in the BBC reports at it and look how it replies.
This is because it has a top-layer of information it uses to answer your initial question and only digs into it’s detailed database when you ask it to. And the results are usually very interesting. I’ve lost count of how many times it has apologised for misleading me or being totally wrong when it looks more closely.
I always start with ‘speak plainly’ so it doesn’t treat me like an idiot for the rest of the session.

They are after all, only gibbering in catchphrases on their broadcasts, and even on their website, there is never any really deep discussion – it’s more like a tabloid cover-all in lieu of real news.

I’m finding more and more that I just use the BBC news for the headlines then go to AI for the story. You discover just how far from the truth the impression they give is. The facts are almost always there in some form, but they are very sly at making them seem unimportant compared to others.

The mildly conservative Telegraph’s studiously factual report hints how this story was only of somewhat rarefied interest: Ex-professor Arday found dead – and that’s your lot – no other national daily front page bothers with the news of the sad demise of a black professor who didn’t really have the faculties for the position to which he was promoted.
In-the-tank for Labour Daily Mirror does a front page would-be obituary for Nigel Farage of course.
One couldn’t help but notice our BBC and indeed the Mirror’s impatience at Farage for having cheated them of the anticipated comic drama of the Clacton vote declaration. The three ring circus was to have starred: Uniparty candidate Count Binface; Nick the Incredible Flying Brick (The Official Monster Raving Loony Party); Howling Laud Hope; Baron Von Thunderclap; Woke Trump Carrzee; and Uncle Tom Cobley (presumably).
Talk about piqued: Farage did not show up at the count, telling supporters Essex Police had warned him of an “organised campaign to disrupt and degrade the result”. This palpable BBC annoyance – one would think the umpteenth unfunny series of Have I Got News For You had just been cancelled – combined with this act of spiteful relentless lawfare: Hours after the Clacton result was declared, the Office of the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards told the BBC “the investigation is not suspended anymore”. (BBC) – comes over as playground “Ner-ner, ner-ner-ner!”
So the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards has told you that has he, BBC? An earlier iteration of the BBC report said a notice had gone up on their web site within minutes of the Clacton declaration. Which perhaps sounded, journalistically, a tad too cut n paste?

I think a ‘bi election’ is where someone succumbs to the proselytising by the BBC and tries to decide if he is a full-blown (no pun intended) homosexual or just bisexual.

On Toady today a lovely piece of juxtaposition which the kidults in the editorial room somehow failed to notice, and so conveniently left for us.

Hidden away from the influence of the Earth they aim to explore the Universe without all the Earth’s background ‘noise’ and radiation, getting in the way.
Now you may or may not approve of such activity but would I think have to admit it is cutting edge science, being investigated by clever people with a top class research pedigree.
Readers will not find it difficult to compare and contrast the above two examples of scholarship from the same University. What could possibly cause the differences?
The son of a friend got into Cambridge several years ago now with a scholarship. They did a first degree then carried on and got a PhD. A dedicated and intelligent person.
They stayed on and currently give tutorials and some lectures, but basically earn close to minimum wage, because of the high demand for, and low supply of lectureships.
Is it relevant that they are a born and bred English person who is white?
Perhaps readers can think of another person without such an academic background who did rather better.
