Prime Minister… Hundreds of military-aged men are landing on the South coast on giant boats… Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan have created a military alliance which has major implications for Israel, Iran and the entire Middle East… Russia has said it will not rule out a pre-emptive strike on the UK or Germany if they continue to arm Ukraine… Italy’s security services are warning of another Cueta-style mass invasion next week… Yes, PM, I know that most of it’s not been reported by the BBC. But what shall we do?

“Er, consider a ban on disposable BBQ’s?”

Comedy that writes itself….. Top of Burnham’s list – saving the people money and not wasting their taxes.

“Why did the French go into it (European Union) then?”

“To protect their inefficient farmers from commercial competition.”

“That certainly doesn’t apply to the Germans?”

“No,no,no. They went in it (EU) to cleanse themselves of genocide and reapply themselves for admission to the human race.”

“A mediocracy is a system of government or leadership ruled by a mediocre person or group. In political commentary, it describes a state where those in power lack the exceptional skill, vision, or intellect normally expected of leaders, opting instead for safe conformity, empty rhetoric, and low standards.”

“The cobra effect is when an attempt to solve a problem makes the problem worse. It describes a perverse incentive where an incentive plan backfires and causes people to act in ways that worsen the original issue.”

The Origin StoryThe Plan: The British government in India wanted fewer cobras in Delhi. They offered a cash reward for every dead cobra.

The Twist: Smart people started to breed cobras at home to get the easy cash. The Backfire: The government stopped the reward when they found out.

The Result: Breeders set their useless snakes free. The wild cobra population grew larger than before. (Note: Historians debate if this exact event happened, but it remains a great example of bad policy design.)
