An old pal of mine is a local historian and still lives in south London, just a few roads from where I was brought up. The other day he was showing me some photos he had taken on Christmas Eve 1986. They show a rather attractive boulevard of shops and cafes of a place I was once so familiar. Blimey, it’s almost unrecognisable these days…
It was a tidy little area in 1986. Not rich, but respectable. There was a butchers and a bakers, alas, no candlestick maker, but we did have an iron monger, a lady’s hairdressers, where my old gran always got her barnet seen to, a sweet shop and a working man’s cafe and across the road a nice little boozer. Really traditional, British stuff.
Today, this same area is known locally as Somali land. They’ve got their own shops and cafes, there’s litter all over and gangs of these men (none of them seem to work) stand about all day chewing khat and gobbing the residue onto the pavements. An attractive and enriching addition to British life, I’m sure you’ll agree…
The cafe, hairdressers, butchers and bakers have all gone. It’s as though they had never existed, nor the people who frequented these establishments. In a way this little area is a cultural microcosm of what’s happening across Blighty.
The demise began in earnest in May 1997, but it’s been accelerating ever since.
For me, the really baffling part is why our own establishment should deliberately seek to destroy the very country they are supposed to protect. I’m flummoxed.

Farage landslide surely given he didn’t just maintain his vote but added to it…I mean Starmer had a ‘landslide’ and yet he actually won fewer votes than Corbyn did in 2019.

Standards Commissioner Reopens Investigation Into Farage
The Parliamentary Standards Commissioner Daniel Greenberg has reopened the probe into Nigel Farage’s donations after his victory in the Clacton by-election. The investigation was paused during the campaign, but the web page has been updated following Farage’s victory. Farage told GB News:
“This is an overwhelming endorsement of me. I have had enough of being judged by mainstream media, being called a criminal. Do you know if I’ve made one sin? I haven’t filled in a piece of paper.

Edwina Curry, I don’t like the woman but I don’t think she meant it SHOULD be done. I think she was being sarcastic. Highlighting the absurdity of housing an army with nothing to do in a small village.
