Newsround Thought Police

Hat tip to “Votefor” in the comments for drawing attention to the latest edition of Newsround (the BBC’s news programme aimed at children, for those who don’t know).

This evening’s programme began with a report from Manchester showing kids enjoying a day off school because of the snow.

Innocent winter fun, same as it ever was?

Not as far as the BBC Newsround thought police are concerned, relentless as they are in their fight against potential global warming thoughtcrimes.

Back in the studio, presenter Sonali was on hand to remind any young viewers who had spent the day having fun in the snow about the terrible super-heated future of our planet:

Sonali: Now this cold snap has been going on since before Christmas so you probably won’t be surprised to hear that last month was the coldest December we’ve had in 14 years. But we’re always hearing about global warming so what’s going on? Well BBC weatherman Simon King has popped into the studio to help clear up any confusion. Hi there Simon.

Simon: Hello.

Sonali: So why are we seeing this snow when the planet’s heating up?

Simon: Well the snow we’re seeing at the moment is actually a very rare event. Normally we’d expect to see much milder conditions, but if we look at the whole of 2009 and average the UK temperature, 2009 was actually the fourteenth warmest year on record, so things are signalling to be warming up.

Sonali: And do you think, then, it would have been even colder at the moment?

Simon: Well decades ago the river Thames used to freeze, we used to have snow and ice every week causing all sorts of disruption, so things in the future we could start to see more extreme weather like this. It won’t happen every year unfortunately but we could see more colder winters and much hotter summers, so lots of heavy showers, flooding possibly in the United Kingdom and other severe weather across the globe.

Sonali: Really? Everywhere, everyone is going to see extreme weather?

Simon: Absolutely. Well, the globe is warming up. If we look at the whole of the globe and average all of the temperatures there, we can actually say that 2009 was the fifth warmest year on record so the signals are certainly there that our planet is warming up.

Sonali: Thank you very much for coming in Simon. And speaking of that extreme weather, over on the other side of the world Australia has been sweltering through its hottest decade since records began. Now part of the country is recovering from another natural disaster – powerful rainstorms.

Hope that helps to “clear up any confusion” kids. You see, we used to have snow and ice “every week”, but because of global warming we get milder weather except when we get the same extreme weather we used to get before global warming. Or something. Anyway, never mind all that because it’s been a bit hot in Australia and now it’s a bit wet. You see, it’s all global warming, children. Just promise you won’t flick channels and watch all the news about record snowfalls in China and America, OK? That would be too much confusion to clear up in one programme.

This matches up perfectly with what I said was going on in Richard Black’s latest piece:

It’s just weather, only temporary.  Nothing to see here, move along.

Only the Newsround Beeboids are clever enough to use the Socratic Dialogue technique to give the illusion that they’re addressing both sides of the issue.

Grant Shapps (Tory MP) was spouting the same shite on Sky News regarding the Daily Express headline slagging off the warmists. We got the “this is the sort of weather we can expect”. When Tory prats like him have fallen for this crap as well there is no hope.

Will Hutton on Newsnight spouting total shit. Is every one who is a politician or Socialist s a total mong?

It’s quite obvious that the warmists have gotten together at the CRU opened up the vaseline and decided on how to try to spin the cold weather as ‘climate change’.

    Total tossers.

Another vaseline user was on News 24 spouting on about how climate change might give us warmer or colder weather, it might be wetter sometimes or dryer!!! I kid you not!

On News 24 last night – very late last night – an interviewee from the Times weather pages (Paul Simon?) admonished the BBC for its constant misleading reference to the present weather (which has been continuing for around 3 weeks) as “a cold snap”.  Imagine, if you can, the BBC endlessly referring to the Israeli incursion into Gaza as a “skirmish” and the descriptive bias (of repeating the “cold snap” mantra) positively screams.

As you have pointed out, the Conservatives are down there with the AGW panic-mongers.  Whoever wins at the general election the AGW propaganda and taxpayer-fuelled “action on climate change” will continue.

It’s notable that without a state broadcaster, the US remains somewhat more skeptical about MMCC.

Fortunately, the US does not have a single, official state broadcaster with a uniquely elevated position in the public eye.  Due to its historic origins and place in the national culture for generations, the BBC has a special relationship with the public that no US broadcaster could possibly dream of.  True, the New York Times used to have a major influence on the national news agenda, but that lasted only as long as their reputation for quality, and they never actually controled a large portion of the media in the country.

Even though the vast majority of media in the US has been in lock-step with the Warmists for ages, we don’t have an official national broadcaster to grant such blanket coverage for propaganda, across so many channels, on radio, TV, and online.

You don’t have any media with a remit from the government like all that government social agenda claptrap in the charter, do you? and a b roadcaster which is in essence more like a government department than anything else, though it loudly proclaims its editorial independence etc.

And don’t forget, the stinking, lying, extorting BBC uses the BBC tax to dominate children’s education and broadcasting.

It does seem odd to refer to periods of decades since something, that suggests it is at worst cyclical, without pondering that some might be old enough to have been there at such a point and recall that it was what was then pretty much colder or warmer for the time of year.

Now I’ll go along more than most with the geo-climatic trending, but not not when some overpaid civil servant, quangocrat or media luvvie with a daft title tries to pin lack of grit or dwindling gas supplies on climate change.

If they can’t plan with decent contingencies for this, I remain unconfident in their forecasts and certainly their ability to direct funds in a sensible manner on anything else.

And my kids deserve better than such as this to try and get them ‘on board’ in such a way. Nil points.

I dunno if you read Ninteen Eighty-Four but if I remember rightly the Thought Police did a bit more than explain stuff to children.
