MISSING THE TIGERS, LOVING THE TALIBAN.

Look, it’s been a big blow to the BBC and they need our understanding. I refer to the “victory” of the Sri Lankan government over the Tamil Tiger “fighters”. So, which terror group to shill for now? The Taliban, of course. Today has been active this morning with this report and a further discussion on whether the US can win the war in Afghanistan. The BBC meme is that terrorism just cannot be defeated through military might and so now that Sri Lanka has proven just how false this is, it’s off to the Taliban to find sanctuary for the narrative…

THE SUN SETS IN THE EAST

I noticed the BBC reporting the latest shockingly bad economic figures from Japan. The first three months of 2009 saw the Japanese economy shrink at its quickest pace since records began. Output in the world’s second largest economy contracted by 4% during this period, or by 15.2% on an annualised basis. Given that Britain under Prudence Brown is following the same disastrous path of “quantitative easing” and “stimulus” that is failing in Japan, I look forward to Robert Peston and the rest of the BBC’s crack economic experts flagging this up.

JUST SO MUCH WIND..

I see the BBC has been shilling for the folly of the construction of hundreds of massive wind farms around the UK this morning. This follows the news that the final section of Europe’s largest onshore wind farm is coming on stream as plans are under way to expand it. The £300m Whitelee development on Eaglesham Moor, in East Renfrewshire, is made up of 140 massive turbines.

Vested interests and the eco-loons consider the defacing of our wonderful British coastline a small price to be paid to help reduce those pesky carbon emissions and their mythical relation to climate change and I heard it said this morning that an area equivalent to the size of Wales would need to be converted to Wind farms if we are to hit Government targets in terms of renewable energy. It is a disgrace that the BBC does not provide equal space for those who believe that Wind farm technology is far from appropriate, far from being environmentally constructive and far from being efficient. This is not science, this is propaganda.

DON’T FEED THE LYONS…

I’m not surprised that BBC Trust chairman Sir Michael Lyons claims the Conservative proposal to freeze the license tax for one year is “a recipe for curbing the BBC editorial independence”. Those whose snouts are plunged in the trough of public funding will naturally squeal when they are asked to refrain from gluttonous spending. In my view the Conservative proposal is entirely inadequate – we do not need to see a freeze for one year, we need to see dramatic reduction. This country is in a profound economic recession – everywhere one looks there are cut-backs, wage cuts, jobs losses – since WHEN did the BBC become immune from these realities. The Commons debate on this will be interesting to observe insofar as we will see are ANY MP’s committed to the principle of cutting back the scope of the State Broadcaster. As for Lyons and his silly claim that editorial independence is compromised through prudent budgetary restraint – is there anybody out there who buys that?

NOTHING BECAME HIM….

To quote the Bard “Nothing in his life became him like the leaving of it,” says Malcom in MacBeth referring to the traitorous Thane of Cawdor. When it comes to Speaker Michael Martin, I think nothing in his political life becomes him. Period.

But I tuned in to BBC PM and there was Nick Robinson gushing sympathy for this Glaswegian clown. As sickening as Robinson’s cloying words were, the “tributes” to Gorbals Mick from other not so honourable members were even worse. And here’s a question for you; is it possible for the BBC to get through any item on Profligate without referring to Douglas Hogg and his moat? Maybe the mote in BBC eyes stops them also frequently highlighting Lib-Dem greed, for example? I fully accept that ALL the political pigs had their snouts in the trough but BBC coverage seems to damn Labour and Conservatives whilst giving Cleggy and co a free pass.

Finally, did anyone else find it a trifle odd to hear the BBC interview Peter Hain of ALL people on political integrity? Surreal.

PS Just spotted this BBC headline re Trougher Martin. “Pricky, decent, lonely, kind…” – I think I’m going to be sick. How about “Arrogant, biased, greedy inept?”

What more do you want?

The headline of this BBC news story reads, “Sri Lanka leader hails ‘victory'” The same headline, along with the first few lines of this story, also appears as top story on the main BBC news page today.

What’s with the scare quotes round “victory”? I can go with the quotes round “liberated” a few lines later. That’s a matter of opinion. But it is a fact, not an opinion, that the Sri Lankan government has won a victory over the Tamil Tigers. The BBC itself writes that the Tigers are “finished as a conventional military force”. The Tigers’ leader is dead. They hold no territory. They have surrendered.

This is starting to sound like the Dead Parrot sketch. But do you get my point here, Beebfolk? Even if the Tigers were to stage a comeback, this, today, is still a victory. Or are you trying to convey that, “In war, whichever side may call itself the victor, there are no winners, but all are losers,” as Neville Chamberlain put it in 1938?

The Big Question.

Who is to blame, Nicky Campbell or the BBC?

Is that an “either or” question? No. Neither is: “Is Israel a racist state or a country under threat?”

The latter part of the question was not addressed as who could argue with the statement that Israel is under threat?

All that was left to discuss was: can any kind of discrimination against an enemy that is hell-bent on destroying one, ever be justified?

BBC conjures up a loaded question which automatically and emotively propounds the association of racism, the ultimate taboo, with the state of Israel, the beleaguered Jewish state.

After years of misinformation when so many misconceptions have continually been allowed to go unchallenged, programmes like this devised for entertainment are bound to be completely overwhelmed by prejudice and malice.
